They say when one door closes another one opens. And in this case it seems one tragic engagement ending buds another one right on the horizon. Just as Kanye West and his longtime girlfriend Alexis publicly ended their courtship, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon started to take their place.

There were whispers of courtship between the two which many, present company included, dismissed as just blogging fodder to get people talking. But it seems there is truth to the rumor -- because Access Hollywood is making it official. Here's what they are saying:


A source close to Mariah has confirmed to Access Hollywood that the music diva is engaged to Nick Cannon.

Reps for both singers were unavailable for comment.

The couple sent the rumor mill into overdrive when 38-year-old Mariah (with Nick on her arm) was seen sporting a dazzling new piece of bling on her ring finger at the after party for her Tribeca film, “Tennessee,” in New York.

When asked at the party what he loved about Mariah, 27-year-old Nick gave a one-word answer.

“Everything,” he told People. [Source]

Now I hate to be a cynical son of a b*tch about this, however we all know that Nick is good for poppin' the question but not necessarily meeting his suitors down the isle [was that a bit dramatic?] We all know he popped the question very publicly to Selita Eubanks in Times Square a couple of years back - and we saw how good that went.

Let's hope Cannon and Carey [awwwwww C&C that is SOHH Cute] can sustain the negative feedback from all the haters on their union. Because lord knows I can just see the blog entires now.

My how a star has fallen....

I'm sure by now you've heard that economy isn't just affecting the everyday working person of the world its also affecting celebrities too. CW11 decided to tag along with the Repo man to collect the has been rapstress's Bentley due to non payment. You got to watch her reaction when she speaks to the the camera crew. It's truly priceless. You can watch the entire segment if you want, but the real magic happens at 2:24.

I got to be honest with you I couldn't even bring myself to watch this clip for like an hour. I paced my apartment desperately craving a cigarette because I know what having a car repo'ed feels like. And whether its me or watching someone else go through it - the whole idea makes me nervous.

But I really have to look at my hip-hop stars sideways because after the CD's stop selling, and the concerts no longer interest your fans I don't see any problem with coming back down to earth and taking care of your business. I mean its clear that Kimberly is just not making money anymore..period! Why is she still trying to front like she's balling?

OK, so why did my BET connect hit me up and tell me that Madonna will be making history this Friday as she plans to appear on BET's 106 & Park to promote her new album "Hard Candy".

I'm sure you are scratching your head on this one, and if you're not then you should be. I've noticed a trend with BET as of late. They are starting to garner the attention of Hollywood non black A listers who are coming on the show. Tom Cruise has made his appearances. A few others who's names escape me have as well, and now Madonna...WTF?

To me its insulting because its like she, or the brain child behind this idea, is now trying to reach out to the blacks now that she has a suedo hip-hop album out and wants the black dollar. Um where was she her last 45 albums? I've purchased Madonna's music before, yet ironicially I am not feeling any of her new material SOHH I will not be purchasing this one.

I just really don't see the point in the visit. It seems that every since Viacom acquired BET it's like watching a second hand, more meager MTV. Is it just me?

Oh, and I heard that Mariah is kicking Madge's ass in CD sales. They say Madonna's new album will debut at number one next week. But I hear that she sold way less copies than Mimi's, E=MC2. If you didn't know the two are bitter enemies.
