And I'm sure it is no surprised that Kanye kicked ass on the Billboard charts, right?
The numbers have been tallied and the official word is that Kanye has the number one album with a whopping 957,000 units sold in its first week in North America. While 50 Cent's 691,000 copies are nothing to scoff at, it still puts him in the runners up category, which means he should be announcing his retiring any day now. All in all this was a huge success for Hip-Hop. I must admit I thought country star Kenny Chesney was going to be the best this week. But it looks like country fans cant compare to the fans of rap, particularly Kanye & 50.

The king of rap returns with Curtis
On the same day as Kanye West, another heavyweight in Universal Music Group’s stable of hip-hop artists let loose a new album: Curtis , in record stores on September 11, is 50 Cent’s third release on the Aftermath label. This new album of authentic, no-frills, uncompromising rap from 50 Cent (whose real name is Curtis Jackson) includes guest appearances by some of the biggest names in the business, from Eminem to Dr. Dre and Timbaland.
Curtis has already racked up sales of nearly 2 million in less than a week and appears on track to match the records set by 50 Cent's previous albums, Get Rich or Die Tryin', which sold 11 million copies and became the top-selling record of 2003, and The Massacre , released in 2005 with sales of nearly 8 million.

50 still sold more than most NY artist...and it todays age they both still did big number and 50 will reach plat status anyway...so it doesn't matter.
Congrats to Kanye. I'm sure all the haters will come up with some excuse for 50 but honestly the better product won. 50 cd is good too, but just more of the same from him, no growth as an artist whatsoever. Don't count out them country fans though, they keep buying an album for years until its platinum a few times over, hip hop albums spark for only the 1st few weeks and die off, so watch in in like 3 yrs. from now Kenny Chesney just might have passed both 50 and Kanye.

I'm a die hard 50cent fan and I congratulate Kayne of his achievment. All you 50cent haters out there listen you fuckers: 50cent will always sell records because he has a huge fan base in addition how can you say selling 691K is a failure??? Name 2 rappers than have sold that much this year, let alone in their 1st week. The problem is that 50cent set the bar so high with his previous albums, Get Rich or Die Tryin 875K, The Massacre 1.1million, Curtis 691K. Hate on haters, don't forget he's stanky rich.

I just listened to the interview and I am now a bonafide Kanye fan. Taht was really excellent and I still think he is intelligent even though he thought Ramadan was a Jewish holiday. I did too when they first said it and I know I'm smart dammit! lol

50 did 2 million worldwide. kanye did almost a mill in the us. pluse he beat 50 in the uk....so unless you have kanye's numbers wrldwide, how can you say 50 won?
