Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is and DMX: Soul of a Man both premiered Wednesday night on BET. Now usually, my tv doesn't sit on BET for longer than 2 minutes. But these shows (along with the BET Awards the past few years) have extended this time just a bit. I was hesitant to even watch this ish since BET can really phuck up a semi-interesting concept, re: College Hill. But Keyshia's show was surprisingly pretty damn good. I'm down with Keyshia, so it wasn't a stretch.

Keyshia on the new issue of VIBE
The show kicked off with her going back to the Bay to visit her sister and nieces and nephews. She had put all her sister's business out there (about her being raped and delving into alcohol and drugs) to explain why she needed to go check on them. And of course the whole damn town had a "nigga moment" and wanted to get in on the publicity so they threw a big bbq for her. Keysh talked alot about the hell she's been through getting to this point. She gets mad respect from me for holding it down this long and not gettin caught up in all the bullshit and streets that surrounded her.
She gave a concert that night and her people showed her a lot of love. And yes, it was clear once again that she needs to work that air/voice control issue out. Chick can't finish out a song to save her life. Still talented as hell though.

X on 106 and Park this week
As for DMX's ish--I swear I was more confused about this dude after this show than I was before it. We all know crack is a helluva drug--but damn. X was straight trippin off some stuff and was wildin out the whole time. Sumthin aint right. Real talk. The show was pretty much about him driving without a license knowing 5-0 was on the lookout for his ass. And also a very interesting breakfast he decided to make in a corner store...in a microwave...at 1a. He was supposed to be in the studio (where Swizz Beats and his manager were waiting for him for hours) about 3 hours before. The folks in the corner store--as well as his wife and I'm sure the whole tv audience--looked at him real crooked the whole time.
The show ended with X being sentenced to 4 months in lockup for impersonating a police officer while wildin out. He was 4 hours late showing up to start his sentence and didn't give a damn. I did feel how he showed love to his kids though. What this show really needs is a Whitney and X episode where they're just taped being themselves. That would hands down be the funniest shit on tv.

In other street news-Lloyd Banks' album (that was supposed to be released this month) has been pushed back to September 19th.
