“I never take shots… at legends.—That’s just something I don’t do.” – The Game

*sigh* I gotta do it.

If you loved A Tribe Called Quest as much as I did growing up, then this review will probably hurt you to read as much as it did for me to write. One of the greatest misnomers of all time, Ali Shaheed Muhummad’s new single and video “Banga” [watch it now] is probably the saddest shit I’ve seen since watching that new corny ass yellow nigga host Rap City. Today’s selection is the re-edit and re-issue of C-Murder’s new video from lockdown “Y’all Heard Of Me” [watch it now]. Featuring fellow N.O. legend B.G. aka B-Gizzle (his official artist name), a man who is no stranger to publication of his shortcomings, this video provides an interesting parallel between the streets of New Orleans and the prisons many of their residents find themselves locked inside.

“Rugged Man… Hairy baboon!/ You could catch me at the Source Awards Jerkin’ off in the bathroom!”

A few years removed from ridiculous lines such as this, the self-proclaimed lowlife white boy from Long Island is back! Despite rumors of being developmentally disabled (the nice way of saying “he might be retarded”) and accusations of having been in a mental institution (a la Dave Chappelle), R.A. Eminem - "Ass Like That"

eminem-hands

From listening carefully to his albums you should be able to understand two things about Eminem:

1. Eminem is a great lyricist.
2. Marshall Mathers is a crazy, crazy bastard.

When his newest album “Encore” was released, if you asked me which songs would make video singles, I probably would have answered “Definitely not ‘Ass Like That.’” Having followed Eminem’s career however, I should have known better as “Ass Like That” [watch it now] is, in fact, his newest single and video offering.

This is probably entirely unintentionally, but dem ‘Natti boys done gave us a hilarious video!

Mighty Casey - "Black Rapping School"

With so much talk about UnCut videos lately, I want to take this weekend to give a little shine to an original UnCut legend. That man is none other than Boston-bred, Columbia University-educated Mighty Casey!

mightycasey.jpg

Known for his Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five parody classic “White Girls,” Mighty Casey returns to the video scene with “Black Rapping School,” [watch it now] a hilarious, low-budget satire denouncing the ills of rap labels and their revolving door of signees programmed to say whatever will help propagate the negativity that drives the industry. B.G. - "Where Dey At?"

You may remember B.G. from such pen-and-pixel covers in the the back of the Source as these.

“The Adventures of Grafh” Vol 1., Issue #1! Definitely a collector’s edition.

To what do we owe the pleasure of this moving comic book? Queens native Grafh apparently decided that there should be a video for his already year-old mixtape cover of M.O.P. and Jay-Z’s “Put It In The Air.” [watch it now]

This is how a low-budget video should be done.

For hump day, I trust my heart. Coolio rears his ugly head once again with a new video for his single “I Don’t Wanna Die.” [watch it now] Featuring Krayzie Bone, this record is the cornerstone of the “Bad Trip” soundtrack. (Has anyone seen this movie?)

Before we proceed today, I have to ask… Has it really gotten that bad for Krayzie Bone that he has to collab with Coolio? Wasn’t he just on a big Lil’ Jon & The Eastside Boyz single? hk_01.bmp

I thought a "Hot Karl" was some deviant sexual act. Apparently, it's a brand of well-to-do rapper from SoCal. His new video "Sump'n Changed" [watch it now] finds Don Karlos looking to define himself... instead of allowing others to pigeon-hole him.

We’re not having luck with the Troys here on "Talkin’ Videos," are we? Both Cowboy and Clergy fail to deliver in their latest attempts. Pastor Troy’s new video “Just To Fight” [watch it now] had me all kinds of gassed up. Here I am waiting for some “Vica Versa” shit, and I get THIS. Wait a minute… I’m so silly. I was watching UnCut. Do I smell... why yes... those ARE chitterlings on the stove! SWEET!

little_brother2.jpg

Phonte, Big Pooh and 9th Wonder are back... and they brought some swine with them. Actually the first video single off of their new album "The Minstrel Show" is more about playing to an underground crowd than it is to boiling out your pig intestines like grandma did. "Lovin' It" [watch it now] feat. Joe Scudda, for some strange reason, is The Negro Channel's public enemy #1. Watch along with me and see if you can help me figure out why, because I'm baffled. This is one of the least threatening (cough cough... and entertaining) videos I've seen in a while.

The Boyz N Da Hood's newest half-hearted attempt to channel the spirit of NWA includes some shit that may surprise you. The video for "Felonies" [watch it now] contains allusions to robbery, strippers, police and trickin off dollars to said strippers. Any time y'all see Lil' Kim's grill... that's WHOA! See, for instance... Catch homegirl with out the Black. White. makeup team... it's WHOA. And even when it's not WHOA... its pretty fuckin' bad... it's at least an "EEEEK." That's the only reasoning I could think of behind her making a track entitled "Whoa." [watch it now] The premise of the video is "one last heist before we go to prison." Sigh. To this I say: You've gotta be dumb as SHIT to go anywhere with Lil' Kim that involves ANYTHING even remotely illegal.

Shawnna - "Gettin' Some"

Oh, god! It's New York from Flavor of Love!

SHAWNNA.jpg

In case you wonder what Shawnna of DTP fame is getting... it rhymes with lead, fed, dread, bed, dead and bread. "Gettin' Some" [watch it now] is the new leadoff single for Shawnna's forthcoming album on Ludacris' imprint.

...and you can still smell the fresh leather of the casting couch.

Mobb Deep - "Put 'Em In Their Place"

chipndale_1.jpg

I leave you for the weekend with Mobb Deep’s latest revival offering “Put ‘Em In Their Place.” [watch it now] I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I feel a little strange today. Hmmm, maybe it’s just a cold. The Big Willie gets you chilly when he passes. I guess it's time to put 'em in their place, huh?

50 Cent feat. Olivia - "Best Friend"

jarule-ashanti-mesmerize.jpg

What is the difference between 50 Cent and Ja Rule again? Oh yes, Ja wasn’t gangster enough. That Murder Inc. imprint wasn’t making any murder music. Right, and I’m sure Olivia is a bonafide, cap-peeling gorilla. She scared the living shit out of me. She’s so much more threatening than Ashanti! The new Ja Rule and Ashanti look high and low for a “Best Friend” [watch it now] apiece.

They might both be looking for the same kind of girl.

Eminem feat. Nate Dogg - "Shake That"

Shake... Sh-sh-shake that ass, girl!

eminem-kim.jpg

What? No Nick Cannon?! I want my money back! Eminem dusts off his old friend Nate Dogg for a silly-ass booty track with a colorful video. "Shake That" [watch it now] is bound to fuck some kids up if they let this shit air on MTV or The Negro Channel. Little Eric in Utah ain't gonna know which way is up after this shit!

Damon Dash Speaking on Jay-Z (Video)

Until recently Damon Dash refused to speak about the friction with his former partner, Jay-Z. I don't know what changed, but now Dame is speaking on it in magazine interviews and even on video. Peep below:

Lupe Fiasco - "Kick Push"

Temporary Preface: I'm hard on Ashlee Simpson and dumb birds like that, but Julissa has to be the worst out. I know it's The Negro Channel, but damn, you can do better than THAT, right? "Oooh! Food, Liquor, Clothes, Cuchifritos and Skeet! I LOVE that!"

No, nigga. You weren't the only motherfucker that thought this song would be about delivering a baby when you saw the title. Lupe Fiasco's re-introduction to the world (after Kanye's "Touch The Sky" Hepatitis Exchange with Pamela Anderson) is his ghetto-skate-rock anthem "Kick Push." [watch it now]

I'm going to be really nice to him and his video. So before I do that, I'm going to make Lupe Fiasco feel nice and welcome here at Talkin' Videos.

Obie Trice feat. Akon - "Snitch"

You RAT BASTARD!!!

obietrice.jpg

Yes, snitches deserve to be hung upside down by their toes and gutted slowly with a butterknife, but I think the "Stop Snitching" movement may have gone a tad too far. I know niggas sell crack and shit, and when you get pinched, you should know the consequences of your actions and the lifestyle you chose... but when cats just pull some Butch Cassidy shit in broad daylight, should they really be all that mad when the cops connect the dots in less than 24 hours? Obie Trice and Akon awkwardly answer this question in the new video "Snitch." [watch it now]

That picture makes me think of that scene in "Harlem Nights" where Arsenio is blasting at his man-lover Eddie Murphy with a tommygun and his little pipsqueak homie keeps poppin off that tiny ass gun--... Nevermind. You're all too young for this.

Lil' Wayne - "Hustler Muzik/Money On My Mind"

Look, daddy! I got my Jr. Birdman Official Hustler badge in my Crack-a-Jack box!

lilwayne.jpg

I guess Lil' Wayne still has a lot of growing up to do. Is he still hustling up money to get out of Bryan Williams' poolhouse like Carlton Banks? If so the video for "Hustler Muzik/Money On My Mind" [watch it now] is more than appropriate. If not, then the Harlem Chamber of Commerce needs to write Cash Money Records a "thank you"-letter. Kennedy Fried Chicken, IHOP, Ahmed's Socks, T-Shirts & Phone Cards and the white folks that make Magic Johnson move must have put together a pretty impressive package to lure these dudes.

P.S.: You can't keep calling yourself BM, nigga. That makes people think of bowel movement.

Yung Joc - "It's Goin' Down"

Puffy, I like the message you're sending out to the kids about working hard and keeping promises and shit... but maybe it's time to stop, my nigga.

yung joc.jpg

Puffy searches below the Mason-Dixon and what does he come back with? Boyz N The Hood, and a nigga who probably scored lower than Vince Young on his SATs. God help us all. Yung Joc beckons that we meet him somewhere to listen to the rap he just wrote after learning to tie his shoes and wipe himself from front to back. "It's Goin' Down" [watch it now] indeed.

Lil' Jon feat. E-40 & Sean Paul - "Snap Yo' Fingers"

Oh, my god, it's an army of snapper... right before our very eyes.

Not only do they want us to do it, they think we don't know how to drink our Snapple. The King of Crunk throws the world a taste of his swordfish with the help of that dude they call 40 Water and a dude they just don't call until Jon breathes life into him. E-40 and Sean Paul of the Youngbloodz pick up the rear in "Snap Yo' Fingers." [watch it now] I just really wish the song held my attention as much as this crazy as video did.

Cam'ron - "Suck It Or Not/Wet Wipes"

Since I hear it's Killa Season, allow me to welcome the new Nino Brown to New Mexico.

"Suck It Or Not/Wet Wipes" [watch above] features a wayward flock of hoes, a washed up Negro icon... and some video chicks. The Negro icon was as famous as a young Aunt Jemima in his prime. However, he's obviously now on some Uncle Ben slave nigga shit. I'll give you a hint... he contracted the clap and still managed to say "Dyn-o-mite!" in an episode.

Busta Rhymes feat. Will-I-Am - "I Love My Chick"

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith concept is soooo clever! Did you think of that yourself, Trevor?

busta_rhymes-grodt.jpg

There goes the Get Rich or Die Hoin' shot! This song and video concept reeks of gorilla balls. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it feels like the kind of video they would assign to a lower-ranking G-Uniteer. With that said, "I Love My Chick" [watch it now] is, if nothing else, well-executed by the actors involved. Busta Rhymes, Gabrielle Union, Dr. Dre, and a soothing Negro voice make this one the kind of thrill ride you come to expect from Bus-a-bus.

Gabrielle Union? Nigga, I love her too!

Da Muzicianz - "Camera Phone"

Shake somethin' for the camera, HO!

How Ying Yangs got little brothers? Welcome to The Minstrel Show, then. I thought we weren't supposed to pour water on these niggas. Maybe someone unadvisedly fed D-Rocc and Kane after Magic City... just in time for Freaknik. However it went down, we have an official Sherm-Rock Twins spinoff. Da Muzicianz explode onto the scene with "Camera Phone" [watch above]... the not-so-derrty version. They pulled this one out of the collar like Bling-Bling's crackpipe.

Rick Ross - "Hustlin'"

Whip it real hard. Whip it! Whip it! REAL HARD!

What a turn of events... you guys demanded that I reach back for this one, and Devo is now certified gangsta.

I put niggas like this into a category I like to call "Why are you rapping?" You're not particulary good at it, and it sounds like you've sold e
