From listening carefully to his albums you should be able to understand two things about Eminem:
1. Eminem is a great lyricist.
2. Marshall Mathers is a crazy, crazy bastard.
When his newest album “Encore” was released, if you asked me which songs would make video singles, I probably would have answered “Definitely not ‘Ass Like That.’” Having followed Eminem’s career however, I should have known better as “Ass Like That” [watch it now] is, in fact, his newest single and video offering.

With so much talk about UnCut videos lately, I want to take this weekend to give a little shine to an original UnCut legend. That man is none other than Boston-bred, Columbia University-educated Mighty Casey!

Known for his Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five parody classic “White Girls,” Mighty Casey returns to the video scene with “Black Rapping School,” [watch it now] a hilarious, low-budget satire denouncing the ills of rap labels and their revolving door of signees programmed to say whatever will help propagate the negativity that drives the industry. Before we proceed today, I have to ask… Has it really gotten that bad for Krayzie Bone that he has to collab with Coolio? Wasn’t he just on a big Lil’ Jon & The Eastside Boyz single? This can’t be what Ron Artest was asking for time off from the Pacers for.

That ain't how you spell "warrior," man!
I’ve defended this man to the death… But I’m now convinced he’s a touchdown. Ron Artest’s extended summer vacation produced an Allure album and this shit. His solo debut and video “Oh Yeah” [watch it now] is a hot heaping pile of god-damned shame. I’d rather hear Iverson’s "40 Bars," Kobe’s "K.O.B.E." (feat. Tyra Banks), Chris Webber’s “Gangsta, Gangsta (feat. Kurupt)” AND Patrick Ewing’s “We Be Tippin’” than this shit. Fortunately for us, this one has a clown-worthy video. (So does C. Webb, but that’ll have to be a throwback.)

Much more entertaining is the video for his second single "A.D.I.D.A.S.," [watch it now] the hip-hop cover of the Korn classic. (Memo to bum-ass niggas: There's a giveaway inside!)

Ali & Big Gipp make for a very strange combination, but conceptually I like it. The STL/ATL bridge leads me to one question: Is being paired with Murphy Lee really that bad? I guess I’d rather be splitting my stack with Gipp too. At the end of the night all he wants is the big piece of chicken after they smoke. “Go Head” [watch it now] is, of course, an ode to ass that sits up nice and high. Luckily none of the chickenheads are doing the chickenhead.
Oh, yeah… the girls aren’t doing it either.

I heard you got the fever for the flavor?

Underground veteran and Kanye West weed carrier/verse writer Rhymefest enters uncharted territory in his new video "Fever." [watch it now] I get the feeling he's never been in a sea of pre-paid hoes before. Trust me, kids... It's not as much fun as it looks. The video also doubles as a fried chicken commercial.
Shit. Kel Mitchell can't have all the finger-lickin' fun, can he?

Today's selection: Busta Rhymes' self-imposing anthem for hip-hop's mecca, "New York Shit." [watch it now] I’m not into the nationalist-esque sentiment that clouds this song (and the brains of most New Yorkers) but this shit is kinda hot. New York most certainly needs a swift kick in the ass and Busta provides it. I expected a little more from this video than a live performance strewn with cameos, but eh… times are changing, I guess.

"Fuck, so does the original." – Ron Mexico

Just because you made a personal joint about your folks doesn’t mean we should all be exposed to it. “Never Went to Church” [watch it now] are the laments of a youngster with a few too many regrets about shit he probably didn’t have too much control over.
I doesn’t fink me main man Ali G was knockin dis shit at any point. E might ‘ave picked dis up on accident instead of “On My Way To Church” and been well pissed wif one Mr. Joseph “Jimmy” Jones.

Nevermind who you thought I was… I’m Rick James, bitch!

In a bittersweet selection, Busta Rhymes' latest video “In The Ghetto” [watch it now] features the now posthumous of Teena Marie’s ex-pimp. Unforunately, Rick was obviously unable to attend the shoot. If there's a heaven for a nigga like Rick, he's probably chillin... doin a line off a titty... while the girl's tied to a chair with fresh Newport burns up and down her body.

SN: Yeah, we would appreciate it if you...
RM: Did research?
SN: Yes
RM: [with Allen Iverson affect] RESEARCH?! Y'all pay me to shit on what comes on a damn television screen with reckless abandon... And niggas is comin at me about RESEARCH?! FUCK THAT! [knocks over muffin] I don't research bullshit I'd rather not have lost four minutes of my life to. Feel me?!

"Modern vampires of the city… hunting bloooood... Blooooood!"

Ironically, that’s what Junior Reid says in the intro to the timeless reggae classic “One Blood." I'm not so sure The Game knew that... but we know somethingabout that track caught his ear though. First Sizzla coughin up the ital stew to Dame Dash, then Damian Marley caught smoking with Bobby Brown, now Junior Reid putting Rastafarianism directly on the ho stroll for The Game. It hasn't been the rastas' year, has it? Come watch "It's OK (One Blood)" [view now] and see what I mean.

Young Dro has quickly become one of my new favorite MCs, but the self-annotated trigonometry enthusiast is far from blameless... and visible on dark backdrops. Whoa. Snoop Dogg looks awake.
R. Kelly need a new rapper to vouch for him like a hmmmmotherfucker since he screwed it up with big meal ticket. Strangely, this combination actually works. Snoop is entirely too high to have an ego. He smoked that shit away, leaving room for the Pied Piper to work his magic. The brainchild of Kells’ and The Reefer Mummy’s unlikely dynamic duo, “That’s That Shit” [watch above] is a heater. Aight, the basic concept that I got from this video is that Luda n' em are talking about chicks that only date celebrities, NOT actual celebrity chicks. That threw me off a bit, because at first I was like, "okaaay, wouldn't this be more effective if there were, I dunno, CELEBRITY CHICKS in the video?" But they chose to use chicks that "look" like Nicole from PCD and K.D. Aubert -- but most likely pronounce "Rodeo Drive" as "Ro-DEE-yo" and buy their clothes from someone who stole them first. Because Foxy Brown (now infamous for being an ill-tempered bytch as opposed to her lyrics) will soon join the "Knocked Up/Locked Up Wives Club", I decided that she should be featured for this week's Throwback Thursday.
So, here it goes... one of my favorite Jay-Z/Foxy duets:
I OWN THOSE GLASSES THAT JAY-Z'S WEARING, EXCEPT MY LENSES ARE A BIT ROSIER. GUCCI MAKES FLY FRAMES!

The uncle you love to hate got out of jail today, y'all. And he's staying with YOU. Hide the good china and your fresh-out-the-box pairs of Uptowns.
I'm usually against the rapper-slash-actor thing, but somebody needs to tell DMC to start checking out some scripts. He may have a lil' underlying talent there.

This video right here is avant-garde, even for Common. But I'm feeling it. Rock on wit' ya white tuxedo'ed self, Common-- let these dudes out here know what's really real.
Let's just hope that last verse wasn't about his past relationship with Erykah Badu.

What up, y'all! I know it's Labor Day, and if you're like me, you're sitting somewhere drinking a Corona with a twist a lime, enjoying the unofficial end of summer.
But for those of y'all who happen to be on the internet today, I'm gonna share with you the video of one of my favorite Jay-Z songs. This song just has "summer" written all over it. And the video's tight too. It puts me in the mind of being on a beach in the Bahamas... plus it's the only time I don't get annoyed looking at Dame Dash, so hey.
So go 'head... feel the high that you get from the La... if you feel it, put 'ya L in the sky (or leave a comment)
Speaking of the islands, big up to all the West Indians doing it big on the Parkway this year. I've long since outgrew it, but feel free to leave me a comment and let me know how it went down. Most importantly, for those of you that do attend -- STAY SAFE.
WHO LOVES YA, BABY?

Who can turn a hooptie into a fly ride with just one click of her rhinestone Uptowns and a blow from her glossy lips!
It's the hood's version of Tinkerbell, LIL' MAMA!!!!
Her "G-Slide" is poppin', her tour bus is cool!
.... if you're five years old.
Voice of the Young People? Well, judging from that lil' chicken noodle soup-ish jig she did at the top of the video, she's definitely trying to go hard for the streets -- Sesame Street, that is.

I know, I know... I'm not EXACTLY posting this video in a timely fashion. But, I recenlty came across this video, and uhh... yeah.
As far as the track itself goes, I didn't think things on the production-side of hip-hop couldn't get any worse than interpolating "The Wheels On The Bus" into a new hit. But, once again, Breezy's wrong. I will now be unable to act surprised when 50 Cent uses the "Oscar Meyer Weiner" jingle to attempt his next "hit".
But when you get over the use of use of "Meow Mix"... it's actually not that bad.

Wassup fam! I know, it's Sept. 11th, and by the time this blog airs, most of you will be on your way to Virgin Megastore/Sam Goody/J & R Music World/the Africans on Broadway & Nassau Street to cop that new 'Ye, that new 50, or both. Or, if you're like me, you found a shop that actually had 'Ye's album in stock ON MONDAY, so you copped it a day before it was officially for sale. Anywho, enough about that, I'm sure you're gonna leave me critiques of both discs in the comments.
Now, I want to turn your attention to Cassidy's new video, "My Drink & My 2 Step." It premiered last night on Rap City, but prior to viewing the video, I'd never heard the song.
I was hoping that, with hip-hop's obsession with "walking it out" and Patron tequila, Cass was being sarcastic with that title. But nahhhh, I should've known better.
Does anyone in the really do the 2 Step?

I know this song isn't all that new, but I purposely ignored it (I'm sorry, I just cannot bring myself to listen to an artist who calls himself Gucci Mane), until I got a phone call from a friend I have in Alabama, telling me about this video.
But seriously, fam... what the fluck is this sh*t!? And why is he exploiting his little sister in the process?

Wasssuuuuup, fam!
I know I told y'all I was re-capping College Hill today, but I checked my schedule and said-- "Hold up! Common's video comes out today!"
Thus, the show's review has been pre-empted to make room for one of my favorite rappers who released one of the best albums of the year. (Feel free to disagree, but personally I think his was better than Kanye's.)
Without further ado... Kerry Washington's directorial debut.
Okay... as far as the guest appearanes go, we got Alicia Keys, 'Ye, Serena Williams, Derek and Sophia Luke. Damn. Don't you ALMOST feel like you were watching Smoking Aces Part 2 or something? Come on now-- what's a Common video without the requisite Jeremy Piven appearance? Oh right-- 'Ye's the token midget this time around!

Yes, Beanie Sigel and R. Kelly have done a song/video together.
I know what you’re thinking. Oh no. Oh, no, no, naw!
Yes-- let the music pollution begin.
What the f— is he talking about, “some itch” he wants Kells to “scratch”? Mmmm... That sh*t sounds MAD SUSPECT, Beans. And you got the nerve to try and call out ‘Ye and Phareezy?!

This was one of my personal most anticipated videos of the year, next to Common's "Driving Me Wild". Ever since I copped American Gangster (don't ask how I got it early shhh), ever since I first heard "Roc Boys", I started incorporating the phrase "L'Chaim" into my daily speech. That's how much I effin' love this joint. It's just that ish. Jay didn't disappoint the fans who want him to get back to the old Jigga, nor did he f-ck with those who are feeling his "adult, contemporary" (I write that with caution) side. Everybody wins this go around.
Did the video live up to my expectations?

Hey fam!
I'm definitely a fan of this man Talib Kweli, and what I've heard on Eardrum... well... has been good to my eardrums. So, I peeped this video and I definitely thought that it was worth throwing up here (the video's simple, but it's lyrically on-point). Check it out.
QUOTABLE LINE: "Only use 10% of my mental on instrumentals". Yeah, man....

And here's why:
I know Consequence's preferred "Breakfast of Champions" is other emcees, but they actually included breakfast in the video! Hmm. Kinda clever.
Of course, he could've chosen to spit about dining on the other "breakfast of champions"... whaaat? Don't act like y'all don't know what I'm talking about, you Filthy McNastee's!!

Wow... first Beans, now Freeway's gettin' his flossy on, too? Damn... we know what's on The Roc's agenda! I don't know if I can handle this!
Two bearded rappers... both wearing shades... both get their aliases from the same hustler.... hmm... I guess it was only destined that they cut a song together. Didn't expect the joint to have "club" written all over it, but whatever.
