Wassup, good folk! Yes, today I'm giving you TWO Throwbacks. Here we go:
Sure, Mary was sniffing and dabbling with that stuff . But damnit, she was THE TRUTH and looked fly as hell! Who didn’t run to the Mami’s on 145th to get their hair bleached to the max after this video? Sheeeiiiiitt..... she’s the reason why I highlight my own damn mane every six months! And not only that. Girls everywhere wanted that fly attitude, to be that heartbroken and still have the courage to sing about it. In my opinion, if you are a female in your mid-to-late twenties, I’m sure Mary was definitely the female whose lyrics you clung to like the teddy bear on your bed, aiding you through that coming-of-age, “black girl trying to rise” phase.
But wait! It’s a double! I’m also giving y’all my favorite LL joint of all time.
Damn, I was mad as hell that my name wasn’t included in this song. Doesn’t this remind you of one of those videos that you could create yourself when you went to the mall back in the early ‘90's? [Peep the running man dancing scenes for example]
True, I know I said I’d blog a throwback that you all chose. But I realized that on a day like today, it would be appropriate for me to give you two of my favorite throwbacks. And it’s especially significant that they came from Mary and LL because both of these artists had to transition from their original selves (or manner of living) to get to the point where they are today.
Change, and transitioning, I have found, is imminent for all of us.
Wow. May, let alone the entire 2008, has been truly one that has signified transition for me. I’ve had great things happen to me, and bad things happen to me too, such as adjusting and dealing with family issues & responsibilities brought on by illness. Those of you who know me outside of the computer, know that I am completely adverse to change. In fact, I think I may have “post traumatic-adjustment disorder”, but we won’t go there.
The point is, is that one of the biggest changes I’ve had to go through starts... now.
Today will be the last day that the Talkin’ Videos blog will exist on this site. And that’s SOHH disconcerting to me, mainly because it’s beyond my control. For a year, this blog was a huge part of my life. I sacrificed sleep, personal time and space for your entertainment. True, I was always a YouTube junkie and a WorldStarHipHop fiend, but I found myself staying up for hours watching crazy reality shows (seriously, Gotti’s Way?! ) and writing entries that would make you want to comment on what you saw in the morning. I suffered sat through endless footage of Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Plies, Boosie, DJ Khaled, and (insert random snapper and trapper name here), before X’ing out of the video and deciding that you all deserved better, unless it was strictly for a laugh. And you know what? I was right. This year I stuck to a code that I was going to deliver posts that highlighted good videos, bad videos and crazy videos and I think I stuck to that. I enjoyed arguing over the best emcees, sharing my passion about female rappers, and continuously shutting down any ringtone rapper’s credibility (my fave to diss was KinFolk Kia Shine... WOOOOOOOOOOW!!)
And believe it or not, I LOVED recapping those shows for you guys, simply because I knew I’d get up the next morning, check the blog or my inbox and have several comments from people going off. And you know I do my best to respond to those e-mails and comments. The show I have to say I enjoyed recapping the most was The Wire. Why? Because instead of shunning me for attempting to recap a show I’d never watched before, many of you embraced me, helped me follow the past storylines, and that’s when it began to pop off with the e-mails and such. I really got caught up in that world and realized what I had been missing for five years (y’all made me an addict– no, not a Bubbs kind of addict, ha!)
I just want to take this time to thank everyone who continuously supported me and Talkin’ Videos after I took over the reigns last year. Thanks for your comments, conversation, and some of you, your friendship (you know who you are). And, of course, a special thanks for the people who’ve stopped by since day one simply to hate on me, you’ve made my life better! I know I started out a lil’ rough last year, but I think what made you all want to hear my opinions was that 1) I don’t swaggerjack and 2) I have a genuine love and respect for hip-hop as an art form and a culture, which is more than I can say for a lot of other writers in the blogosphere who are just caught up in their pseudo-celeb status, wanting to be “in” with the industry. No, I actually listen to hip-hop, sorry. But enough about that.
Lastly, but not least, I have to give a special shout out to the artists who let me pick their brains and all of the peeps who’ve reached out to want to work with me professionally. We’ve formed relationships that I know will only flourish into the future, trust me.
I know y’all like me to keep it short so I’ma wrap it up and get to the point:
Talkin’ Vids may be over, BUT CRYS BREEZY DAMN SURE AIN’T!
I really can’t speak on it too much here, but come Monday, please know that things are going to POP OFF for me– BIG TIME. It’s a whole new beginning for me. And if you’re ready to be caught up in The Breezy Effect, please join my mailing list at Breezylovesyababy@gmail.com
And keep those e-mails coming! Let me know what’s on your mind, what you’re listening to, and most importantly... who you’re listening to that you hate. And if you’re wondering whether or not you’ll get that Miss Rap Supreme finale recap... if you join the mailing list... trust me, you will!
In the meantime, PLEASE continue to check me out on Equilibrium Radio, every Wednesday from 4-6pm EST. (Log on to http://whcr.org to LISTEN LIVE) and check out our blog where we archive our past shows at http://eqradio.blogspot.com
And yes... another way to keep abreast of my future endeavors is through Myspace. Hit me up at http://myspace.com/crysbreezy

Hey,Sohh was just a stepping stone. Things happens for good reasons to good people for good situations, Congrates and I'll hit you late. Feels like the last episode of the Wire(LOL). Stay Sweet!
Boy am I glad I stopped over here today. I would say I'm sorry to see you go, but SOHH lost me a while ago and I pretty much only stop over here for the TV recaps. I have no doubt you will be ultra successful so I am not worried about you one bit. This blog was just a little something something along the way. I know we gave you a rough time in the beginning. Ron Mexico is a hard act to follow, but you more than stepped up to the challenge. Good luck and Godspeed Sista Breezy. It's been a bast girl.
