Ryan Leslie-- "Diamond Girl" + Nelly & Fergie -- "Party People" + A Vid I Can't Stop Watching

Posted on April 11, 2008 8:00 AM

It's Friday, and being that I'm already tired as hell from enjoying the first extra-nice day New York has seen in awhile, I'm keeping it short and sweet.

Y’all were right though. 50 DID rip this track to make his ode to the bottom chicks.

But anyway, I had been hearing the buzz about Ryan, so when I saw that this video had finally been posted, I decided to check it out.

I never saw this dude before. What is he, the R&B version of Swizz Beatz?

You know what?
I’m actually not gonna clown this video or this song.
The whole “Hip-Hop Cab Calloway”-esque theme is kind of cute... (and extremely opposite from 60's, but I won’t go there...)

I couldn’t make out the fact, but that dimple seems a little too identifiable.... was the “Diamond Girl” at the end Gabrielle Union? (I thought not, but thought it best to make sure.)

I’m interested to see the Diamond Girl movie (which he hasn’t posted on his YouTube Channel yet), you know, see what kind of concept he comes up with.

I like nerdish lil’ cuties, sometimes. I may have to call that number and tell him how much I *ahem* loved the video. Or at least find out if he's gonna debut a video for the Kanye remix.

Wow. Nelly and Fergie, two of the world’s most pop-iest entertainers (who actually get WAAAAY too much burn on Now! That’s What I Call Music CDs) decided to join forces and find out “where they party people at.”

They’re no longer listening to The Dutchess, or “Grillz,” that’s for damn sure.

I mean, seriously... what was the point of this video? I guess Fergie Ferg figured she couldn’t milk that album for another two years, so she felt the need to show & prove that she is a legit artist with a hip-hop background (because, obviously, you didn’t get it from witnessing her Chola girl get-up in the “Glamorous” video– drawn on eyebrows and all) and could be an in-your-face hardcore chick.

Problem is, she picked the wrong rapper to go hard with.

The only thing hard about Nelly is trying to understand what the f*ck he’s saying on this track.
Wait– no– it’s actually trying to care about what he’s saying on the track.

Speaking of words... dare I say Fergie’s verse is better than Nelly’s?!
You be the judge.

I don’t get it. I thought this was supposed to be a party? That didn’t look fun! It looked like everyone was trippin’ off some wicked concoction of crystal meth and (insert blank), and was ready to start their own version of Fight Club. And I won’t even ask why Ferg’s on a swing like it was the f-cking Moulin Rought .

I guess my last question is... doesn’t it seem like they regurgitated T.I.’s “Hurt” and just threw in the word “party” where he said the words “hurt, merk, put ‘em in the dirt” etc.?

Sorry, but that wasn't the video I couldn't stop watching!

That one, I have saved for last.
I saw this next performer (I don't know if I can call him an emcee, lol) perform at an Open Mic I went to in March, and he just blew the crowd away. Literally. (His call-and-response chorus went "BRRRRRR! WHEN I ROCK THE MIC I ROCK IT VICIOUSLY!")

I went with my EQ Fam, and we couldn't help but get caught up in the rapture of Chilly G. He's definitely a throwback to that Golden Age of Hip-Hop Era, despite the fact that while getting caught up, you question his legitmacy.

Anyway, Chilly G's video is what I'm going to leave y'all with for today. This isn't the exact performance he gave (notice the difference in chorus from what I wrote above) but it's incredible to see that everywhere he goes, he gets the same response. I guarantee this will pick your "G-ddamnit, clock, move faster so I can break the hell out!" mood for today.

I'm out for the weekend! Holla at me about the videos!

  • I mean the video itself its ok, i thought it could be a lil bit better, but as for as the track goes its sick. I mean you can hate on nelly all you want but dude knows how to make party joints for the club an this is a club banger. The flow he spits on this track reminds me of that bone thugs an harmoney flow an I was suprise to hear fergie hold her own on the track. good combo

.Polow da don continues to prove why he is at the top of his game right now. Dude makes hot tracks that never sound alike and the only way you know he produced it because he yells polow da don. he doesnt have a signature sound so people wont be able to copy his music an thats good because you cant copy real talent.

  • I dont know what's goin on w/ Nelly these days but it seems like he lost his touch. I can't see Party People being any kind of success and it seems kinda wack. Add that to Wadsayaname, which was equally wack and Nelly's gonna need to come way better if he ever wants a release date.

  • Let's look at Nelly's sales throughout his career:
    Country Grammar, 9x platinum
    Nellyville, 6x platinum
    Suit, 3x platinum
    Sweat, 1x platinum
    Sweatsuit, gold
So according to this pattern and those two wack singles/videos, Brass Knuckles will sell more or less gold and that ='s FLOP. Time to hang up the mic nigga
