Monday Mayhem: Jigga and MJB on Tavis, Foxy's First FREE-style, + Showing Bob Marley That 4-20 Love!

Posted on April 21, 2008 8:00 AM

What up, what up, good morning!

Hope everybody's weekend went well. I'll get into to the specifics of how you may or may not have spent your weekend (especially yesterday-- 4/20-- but for now, check out these videos I got for y'all today.

The first one up is the 20 minute interview of Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige on Tavis Smiley's show. Personally, I thought this interview was kind of blah-- I mean, Jay's restating things that we've heard a million times from him about him originally not wanting to rap, about him selling Roc-A-Wear, blah blah blah. But if you HAVEN'T heard him talk about any of these things (which, I'm trying to figure out how) then this may be a good time for you to take that coffee break.

"It's really an extension of being creative, it's part of the whole culture." -- Jay-Z about Roc-A-Wear. You gotta listen to his tone of voice to get the humor..

Okay, here are MY comments:

1-- Uhh... y'all know I love Mary. But is she stoned? Chick looked stiff as a mannequin for like, half of the interview!

2-- Oh wait, I get it! She's pissed because someone told her she'd look fly in that get-up, and she comes across as the blonde Naomi Campbell.

3-- I dunno, Jigga-- you were a little too much into Mary's black lipstick during the show!

4-- I swear... it happened all at once starting with that VH1 American Gangster Storytellers Show so I didn't have time to witness the progression... but when did Jay-Z get a personality?!

Feel free to add your own in the comments...

Speaking of Jay, we all know that his former bottom bytch Foxy was released from prison last week. And already, she's got video footage of her very first post-jail freestyle. I'll let y'all tell it:

Waaiiiiit a minute... you were locked down for HOW LONG? And this was the BEST sh*t you could come up with? Did they NOT have pens and paper in Rikers? Come the f*ck on...

(SIDEBAR: That Brooklyn's Don Diva album is straight garbaggio, by the way.)

Lastly, I'd just like to acknowledge the fact that yesterday was 4-20 day.
So be honest... how many of y'all spent the whole day smoking?
I remember when this day used to actually mean something in high school... sneaking it during lunch period in the girls' bathroom or holed up in one of my girlfriend's bedrooms, trying to hurry before her parents got home and noticed the smell that Lysol couldn't cover up. Now that I'm an adult, it's like, eff it, I can do it whenever I want to, the thrill is kind of gone. Truthfully, I don't really mess with the stuff anyway (I'm a drinker, not a smoker) but I'm sure even those who do it "once in a blue when there's nothing to do and the tension gets too thick for [your]sober mind to cut through" remember how they used to get down on this day (that is, if you don't any more).

But let me use this blog to say: LEGALIZE IT ALREADY!!

Aight, now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'd thought I'd end off today's blog with a video clip from one of my top 5 musicians EVER, the late, great, Bob Marley. He's discussing the beauty of the herb, and ending off with one of my FAVORITE SONGS, "Easy Skanking". ENJOY!

  • They were on Tavis Smiley's show, what was he supposed to drop some exclusive news or do a freestyle?? I'm almost positive at least 90% of Tavis' audience (whatever is left of it lol) has never heard Jay say any of that before.
