You want some react quotes? Or quotes YOU can react to?
Sheeeeeeiiiiiit. This episode was chock’ full of ‘em.
Where oh where do I begin?
I know that most of you peeped this episode waaaay before it aired (in order to accommodate your Sunday night for the Superbowl– as I did, so as I am writing this, there will be no shoutouts because it’s Saturday night), so I’m gonna try to keep it brief, and as usual, not write a straight re-cap, but reaction piece. That’s what I should start calling these things– not re-caps, but reaction pieces.
Sometimes (like last week), show openers only have to do with a slight plot twist or a minor scene.
Vondas providing Marlo with that celly proved to be quite crucial the story. Why?
Weeelll... have any of you ever seen a movie called Pay It Forward?
Okay, okay, I know... what went on wasn’t as saccharine-y sweet as the little boy's plan.. and it's slightly altered, but still makes sense... but let me back it up and break it down so you’ll understand.
Marlo and his goons go to see his lawyer (and Herc is there, which we learn AFTER said meeting).
He provides the lawyer with the cell number (because Vondas said it was okay for him to talk on the lawyer on it). Ha, ha, ha). As soon as Marlo n’em exit, the lawyer doesn’t try very hard to conceal his boner as he gleefully exclaims:
“We’re about to have a huge payday off of Mr. Stansfield. He just gave me his cell phone number. It won’t be long ‘til we’re up to our @$$ in in pre-trial negotiations. Joe gave him to us at the right time”.
Yes, y’all... RE- READ THAT SH*T. “Joe gave him to us at the right time.”
Seems like Prop left a going-away present. Hmm... he was a very, very, smart man. He KNEW the sh*t is about to go down... either that or he planted the gotdamn seed for it to go down (while anticipating his own demise). You think Vondas is in on this sh*t too? Is there more going that what we are seeing on the screen? Hmmm...
Aight, so let’s get into the concept of Pay It Forward – The Wire version.
Marlo’s number is being passed around like it’s Karrine Steffans’, and she’s giving head tax free until April 15th. Herc pays it as a favor to Carver, with a special message-- “When you slap the bracelets on that muthaf*cka, remind him again of my g–damn camera”– and then Carver delivers it to Freamon, who confirms the validity of number by calling in a request “for that pepper steak” (ha, ha...). He then brings it to Daniels... and this is where the game of Hot Potato ends, because Daniels can’t work it with his higher ups. Sheeeiiit, better be thankful he was able to get the 1 + McNutty overtime work approved.
Yeah... if you’re wondering... McNutty wound up enticing poor Alma even further with his delusional story by hinting that the homeless killer might be sex maniac (Hmm, wonder where you got that story from, Jimmy).
She meets him... but unfortunately for McNutty’s nuts, she brings along Templeton. Alas, his hard-on regains its morning wood glory when he notices his story has made A1 of The Sun ...(by the way, I hope y’all realized that Templeton either made up that "homeless family guy" quote entirely, or falsely attributed it– either way, it’s a no-no) which is what sends Carcetti and his crew into a craze, yet only results in overtime for McNulty– and Greggs. Damn, I was hoping they would do something substantial with Kima this season, not drag her down with Jimmy’s sh*t. However, that Jimmy’s a step ahead: he tells Kima to continue working her triple and he’d cover.
W H E N I S T H I S M A N G O N N A C R A C K ?
Who knows. And Elena can’t do anything to knock him into seeing the error of his ways.
Beadie, however, is rapidly reaching her boiling point, as was shown by her impromptu visit to Bunk. But she knows, as well as everyone else in this world knows, cops don’t snitch on each other... well, usually.
F-ck that bullsh*t excuse he gave her, though.
I am also convinced that Nerese was born with a piece of kryptonite implanted in her cooch. Not that she’s effin’ anyone, but she has managed to sway the judgement of two powerful men this season, and this is only episode 5. Damn, woman.
This episode, we also get to see Bubbs again– right where we left him, scrubbing pots at the shelter. They want him to start serving food, which makes him antsy because... he thinks he may be HIV+. He consults with his counselor (who happens to actually have the virus) and they decide to go down to the clinic together. When Bubbs gets a clean slate (YES!), he is confused and seems almost disappointed. But, as his counselor pointed out, he was just overzealously searching for an end to justify what he did in the past. I agree with what the counselor said: “shame ain’t worth as much as you think.” Stay on the straight path and let it go.
I don’t agree with the way they handled this. The writers should’ve left us in suspense about Bubbs’ status at least until the next episode. I’m saying, we know he doesn’t have “the monster”, which would probably be the epitome of his storyline. So... what’s next? I hope they don’t just disregard his character at this point.
Oh yes, Dukie, can’t forget about him. It saddens me to see him turn to the gun to defend himself. I really can’t imagine how hard it is to be a young male coming up in his position.
One of y’all previously stated that Dukie was going to be the next Chris Partlow to Mike’s Marlo. I think that’s some creepy ass foreshadowing, and I can kinda see that happening now. Somebody's gonna really f-ck with this boy at the wrong place and time, turning him into a stone cold killer.
I know y’all are going to have A LOT to say about the shoot-out.. I’ll let y’all handle it.
Here’s MY react quote: Omar supermaned those hoes.
And don’t ask me about that wire stuff towards the end of the episode. That sh*t confused the hell outta me too, Jimmu, and I too consider myself a pretty smart chick.
Thoughts? Comments?
I have one last comment for the day: I was doing some Youtubing where I came across a video marked “The Wire Season 5 Episode 8 Spoiler”. Now, my curiosity won over the rampant warning inside my head that screamed “DON’T DO IT!”... and I clicked it. SWEET JESUS. I REFUSE to post the horrendous thing I watched on here, but I hope and pray TO GOD that it was just a fakeout that David Simon and the crew threw out there for the fiends and stans. Remember, HBO has a track record of trying to foil people during the final seasons of their shows; they filmed two endings to SATC as well as The Sopranos (I think).
God, I hope that’s what they’re doing. Now you know it has to be really bad.

I'm sooo happy they are back on Marlo's case, even if it's behind close doors. That is what The Wire is based off of, tapping Niggas. I'm glad that Randy is coming back next episode and I wonder when Namond comes back into the picture too. I cried when I seen Randy yelling at Carver when his Foster Mom was burned up in the hospital. That was just heartbreaking for me...
Breezy, I saw it also and I hope its a fake. There is no way Omar can be taken out like that....especially by you know who.
It just doesn't make sense.
Then again....in the hood....anything can happen.
Let's just hope it's fake.
Good stuff as always Breezy!!!
I thought the Wire stuff at the end meant Marlo's phone was un-tappable. Remember in the beginning the greek showed Marlo something inside the phone that we didn't get to see. Anyway that muthfukka Clay Davis is hilarous. "SSSHHHIIIEEETTTTTT" lol. Hope episode 6 tonight is just as good
oh shit, you finally know all the characters names, wow.....
nah that shit you saw on youtube with Omar was a fake, probably an outtake they was playing around with to tie in the last 3 episodes, they smart as fuck, they gave us episodes out of order, ow they droppin outtakes on youtube, next we gonna have the DVD covers for the Box-Set all before Episode 8 drops.....
glad i ain't peep it out, but got a few credible peeps who let me know that clip wasn't a part of any official episode and perhaps part of an epilogue or finale montage......
then again who knows, it might've been leaked to get the Neilson (sp?) momentum swinging back their way...
I wanna say Namond is gonna be the new Omar cause he needs to redeem his bitch ass behavior in Season 4.... but for some reason i think it's gonna be one of the kid's who wasn't really showcased in Season 4..... we'll see, i gotta say, this whole Season had to be thought out from start to end, like i said the out of sync episodes, the leaking of a video clip, the leaking of an audio clip..........
sheeeeeiiiiiiittttt, maybe by the time Ep 8 comes out, i wont be single and will have someone to smoke and grub with while plotting post-episode backshots, fuck it
18-1 and done, Patriots who?
I seen episode 6 an it was the bomb! But episode 7 looks even better! Every episode looks better than the last.
Episode 7 is a real cliffhanger, thats why everyone is beasting to see Ep 8.....
Like C.G. said, At the end when Freemon was trying to listen to a conversation from Marlo when he finally made a call, and he heard a sound that sounded kinda like a fax machine noise. He says "What the Fuck" and the show goes off. So Marlo and the Greeks are working with some new technology that transmits digitally or something over the phone instead of in anolog.
Nah now Omar got them cats layin low, I got Time Warner so I have already seen next weeks episode.
I'm so glad this show is on cause I miss my violence on Sunday nights now that Sopranos gone and Dexter won't be back till later this year. The writers have really done a great job this season. I loved the looked on McNulty face when he found out the serial killer called the newspaper. Between McNulty and that newspaper guy this serial killer is gonna keep making news. The writers are showing two frustrated men making up stories so they can get things done at their job, thats some crazy shyt. I just wanna see Omar get Marlo azz. Omar is the only one to really bring it to Marlo. I wonder if he had a cape under his trenchcoat cuz homeboy flew out that window.
They probably just texting.
"Shootout"
I dig the Wire because its realistic. Because shows all sides of the drug game, but now they making Omar into Super Negro. Come on man he should have been dead point blank.
1. Ain't no couch stopping bullets from a 40 cal.
2. Omar ain't no Navy seal so he ain't jumping out of a story window then disappear.
Um your job would be much easier if you based your recap off of the wire recap on their website. Or better yet do some fucking research or find another blogger to do a Wire recap. You should aleady know that you have to research anything that you cover from journalism school. I mean dayum, you have a total of 50 hours worth of stuff to watch, sit yo ass down, order the first few seasons and watch the shit, go to the website and read up on the characters and then try to make this more professional. This is straight sloppy work. The only thing carrying you is that people love the show, but we kind of deserve a better discussion forum than this.
omar aint went no where...he right under them people noses.yall need to get on demand and see the new ones a week early.yall lames is sssslow...
I think that the writers are showing that Templeton is an arrogant, imcompetant writer that is looking for recognition and approval from is superiors but can't do his job; which is the case in some newspapers that have written false or fabricated stories. In a prior ep, Twiggy showed Temp up on knowing about Daniels. Temp made up that quote bout Daniels stabbing burrell in the back and the said that he got it Norrice. Afterwards he quipped that Twiggy is the only one with game at the paper. Anyways why was that couch in that apt made of bulletproof microsuede fiber lol glad to see that I wasn't the only one who thought that. To me Dukie is going to be a major surprise this season and Michael is going to make a MAJOR decision. Marlo can be gotten if you make Chris fall, Marlo will follow quickly.

So those of us who have DISH network and watch the wire in HD are lames, and yall technofiles who have time warner cable and watch the wire on floor model TVs are up on it, just because u see next week's show this week, right?
Anyway, I have to agree with one of the last posters. The Wire lost some reality points with the Omar Skywalker shit. Snoop, Chris & Mike spend all their free time at the "outdoor shooting range" and they never miss. But now, all three of them have Omar out of ammo and pinned down behind a COUCH (!), and he jumps up, stands up straight, takes 4 steps and jumps through a 5th floor window, then hits the ground running & disapears? Less than likely. I've come to expect higher quality from the Wire, and this was a step backwards. For the integrity of the story, theres no way that Snoop, Chris, Mike & Omar can all be in the same living room poppin pistols and they all walk out alive. Bad look.
I'll have to agree, those shotguns Omar and Butchie's homeboy had will blast a ig ass hole through the wall. As for Omar, he probably caught the balcony guard rail a few floors behind him, I saw it in a Jet Lee movie one time, that nigga went down 5 stories by staying calm and catching the guard rails.Fuck it, it's Omar he's a legend. It's not like they searched for the nigga too hard afterwards. Dukie is too ecclectic and smart to fall to the street life, I don't see it happenning.
Nah, quite the opposite when it comes to Omar jumping out the window. It didn't take away reality. It showed that Omar is human. I mean, it was jump out the window or get shot. He broke his leg and they showed him crying. I don't know about you guys but no bullets on me and three shooters I'll be parasailing my ass out the window. Secondly, Marlo is a punk, he has no type of ethics at all. Omar's gonna murk him, he's the baddest dude that's ever been on that show, period.
Templeton messed up by saying the serial killer called the paper. Mcnulty knew that was a lie cuz he is the serial killer.
Chris, Snoop & Mike are all expert marksmen. They are absolutely surgical with pistols. If the writers of this episode were even slightly ingterested in being realistic, Omar would have caught at least 7-8 rounds when he was laying behind the COUCH(!), then when he stood up, all 3 of Marlo's hitters would have played Duckhunt on his ass. I've watched the Wire faithfully since the very 1st episode 6 years ago, & 99% of the time the shit is top notch. But that shootout scene was not at all realistic. The writers have never been shy about killing key characters before (stringer, d'angelo, bodie, prop joe, etc...) but for some reason they decided to keep Snoop Chris Mike & Omar all alive & uninjured. I mean nobody even caught one to the arm with all that shooting? Just 2 characters that don't matter get shot? Sorry, but the wire took a backward step in realism.
Marlo has a picture phone, next level stuff. Omar is seen limping around town & smokes Sevino next they won't kill everyone off thay gotta save people 4 the movie!!
Omar killed...? By that little puzzy azz kid...? It's gotta be a fake. The Omar character is too smart and slick to get caught slippin' by some punk azz pipsqueak. Maybe he had on a bulletproof doorag! I hope.
Nah, Dukie is going to be the next Stringer Bell. and Micheal will be Avon!! Remember those are both Eastside guys. Kenard will be Bodie or even worst..Omar. Spider will be Slim Charles. and Micheal lil brother, Bubs will be DeAngelo Barksdale...
I was just happy dude said "Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit" one last time, LMAO!!
nah marlo is worth to much money for vondas to snake him, plus marlo isin't going to talk business on the phone he is to smart , and if ya'll don't remember a couple of seasons mucnulty was up on the greeks phone so they threw em in the water and relocated , why would vondas give marlo a phone to do business dosen't make since ,plus at the end of last weeks episode when homar jumped out the window a phone call came through to marlo's phone and they coulden't trace the call even though they had the illegal wire tap.
I think Slim Charles is going to be the one that gets Marlo. Slim was goin at Marlo's crew in season 3 when he still worked for Avon. He never liked Marlo. Remember when he warned Prop Joe about him? Thats why in Ep 6 Marlo offered him the East Side when the co-op got disbanded and he turned it down. Slim said, "I'm not a CEO" and he deferred it to Cheese. Slim is a loyal soldier, and he may get the word from Avon to do in Marlo. I think either Omar is gonna kill Snoop, or vise versa. Homo vs. Homo lol.
