Making The Band 4 Episode 2-03: Diddy Shuts Down The Studio...AGAIN

Posted on February 12, 2008 9:00 AM

**I just want to address the fact that I was FULLY AWARE of the fact that the group has been given the wack azz name Day26. When I asked when they were going to announce the name, I meant on the show… DUH. However, since all of us are now up on this tidbit of information, I will refer to them as such for here on in. Thank you for your not-so-kind input. I would rather refer to them as “Those Dreamgirl-@$$ n*ggas” as someone else deemed them. Funny. Also VERY IMPORTANT—The Salt N’ Pepa re-cap will commence tomorrow!

This episode begins with our guys recording yet another lackluster track that I can only assume is called “Crazy Love”. The beat is very 1996/112-ish. Vocals are NOT on point for them, and for Donnie’s new joint either. I’m shocked that Danity isn’t coming that lame with their effort, though.
However, as usual, Papa John ain’t feeling NONE of it. He reaches into his bag of tricks and starts playing some track that I KNOW wasn’t maneuvered by himself. It does have bells, whistles and sirens mixed all up in it, so I can see why he would dig it. It seems like someone with ADHD would like. Guess what? This is the battle I referred to last week. Diddy’s giving Day26 and DK 48 hours to pen some lyrics, and whatever group does it the best, wins the track….
To which Aubrey gives Day26 a small prop on their pen game, but mentions,

"They ain’t got nothin’ on Danity Kane, so whuteva [insert teeth suck/neck roll here]”.

Damn. That was almost better than her “where my money-makin’ brothas at?” comment a few seasons ago.

I thiiiiiiiiiink she’s taken the video below a liiiiiiiitle too far to the head:

Evidence of this fact is further shown by that tacky-@$$ sparkly shit she wore on her head during one of the recording sessions. Ugghhhh.

Basically, what becomes of this “competition” is that DK comes up with a track about…. Chasing that kitty. And no, it was Dawn’s idea, not Aubs’.

Day26’s pens lyrics surrounding the topic of… booty, and how they gotta get at some girl’s booty.

YAWN.

Speaking of yawn, they also showed some gaaaaaaaay @$$ shit. Late at night, Robert and Que are sleepless in the loft. Instead of commencing with mutual masturbation, they do the next best gay thing: go around playing pranks by way of some powdery sh-t on Big Mike’s bed. Reaaaally, Rob.
I think you’re sexy, but come on out the closet, bruh. You’re not fooling no one.
Apparently, Diddy agreed with me about the tracks. By way of one of his Bitchboy/Lacky # 232 producer, he sends the message that he ain’t feeling that sh*t. As of matter of fact, DK is sent on their way, and the guys have to stay to have one more message relayed to them:

THE STUDIO IS BEING SHUT DOWN BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SPITTING THAT HOT HOT FIRE.

Also, “vocal training is effective—immediately”.

I ain’t never seen so many hurt looking faces since… well… since they picked OUT the damn band.

But guess who their vocal coach is? Yes-- Ankh-Ra! I’m glad he’s back on the show, because he makes our guys put in a grueling , much needed 11-hour vocal training session. Speaking of which… why the f*ck this n*gga Willie was the only one fully dressed and wearing aviators INDOORS? N*gga, you don’t sweat? Him and Rob need to go somewhere and get it on, seriously.

Don’t ask me to address that annoying ass “Happy Birthday Danity Kane” scene.
I don’t think they’re being sensitive to the guys at all, seeing as though they were recently (JUST THREE YEARS AGO, TWO @ THE TIME OF THE EPISODE FILMING) in the same position as they were. Once again… yeah, you bytches went platinum, BUT WHO BOUGHT THEM? No self-respecting person 23 and older, that’s for damn sure (unless it’s for her niece/sister/daughter). Sorry.

So… how effective was the vocal training?

Diddy has scheduled for Day26, DK and Donnie to sing for the Philadelphia Boys and Girls Club of America. I wonder if after all the muss and fuss, they’re going to do something substantial in every episode from here on out, seeing as last week they all went to church.
Anyway, to make a long story short—

MIKE BIVINS IS BACK! YAY! He came out to introduce the groups to the crowd. And to think, I thought he was here to check on his "boy", Robert.
Now I'm not spreading no rumors, but a little birdie dropped into my email and informed me of the two's past business partnership, prior to his appearance on Making The Band 4. Now, y'all probably got better eyes than me so, I'll let y'all tell it... do y'all see Rob in THIS video? (Matter fact, do y'all even REMEMBER IT?)

Back on track... DK’s performance was… robotic. They pulled out moves that they obviously save for moments like this… it was boring. Dawn pulling out that kid to come dance with them was a good look, though. Aww.

Despite the horribly awry sounchecks, Day 26 (and Donnie) did okay.
I was lil’ worried whenthey started with the suicidal version of “Exclusive”, but then they went into the uptempo version , it was aight. That “Stepin-Fetchit”-esque dance was a lil’ questionnable, though. Hmm…
No complaints from Diddy—so far. That’s all that matters.

Did y’all catch Donnie when that girl (who was… ahem… African-American) came up to him and told him that she loved him? Dude was shook like he didn’t know WHAT to say but offer up a weak sounding, “I love you, too.” Gotta get ready for all that chocolate love coming your way, Don!

Maybe Aubrey peeped that, and knew she had to snag up her white man while she still had him, thus explaining why she was sprawled out all over him back on the bus that night. Hmm. I guess it’s really not a complete episode unless Aubrey’s throwing the p*ssy at someone… is it a good thing that it rebounded back to the Don? Only time will tell.
Speaking of which…

NEXT WEEK: Bienvenidos a Miami, everyone! Better back the condoms, Valtrex and Morning After Pills!

Holla @ me!

  • MTB is boring me this season. There are way too many people in both of these groups and no real stars in either. Every track that Diddy plays sounds outdated and corny and Donnie's solo act is still confusing to me. At this point just give me dope music, I don't need the televised behind the scenes struggle. The Salt n Pepa show was way more entertaining.

  • Diddy is too funny to me. When he shut down the studio on them, I kept getting flashbacks of Dave Chapelle's now classic skit when he kept shutting down the studio on them and making them do crazy sh!t. I thought they was gonna have to walk a 10 miles to get that virgin breastmilk, lol.

  • I thought both performances in the arena were really good. and atleast Donny has an actual musical skill other than just singing. I didn't see any f-ups at all.

  • Breezy,

I'm with you on the sucky music. I'm really worried about my boys. Diddy or his producers or someone has lost their touch. Of the five songs I have heard them working on on the show the only one I like is what I think is called If It Wasn't For You. The one they worked on after the church scene. The rest really sucked and that is terrible because these guys are so talented.

  • Breezy ... you're not the first one to hear about Robert and his dealings with Bivins. Robert was a part of the Biv 10 all-stars and he was in a duo on the label. I'm trying to find the video on YouTube... that little boy is Robert lol I'm surprised no one has really called that out...

  • Robert has not tried to hide his prior business relationship with Mike. I found out about it by reading his bio on his MySpace page when MTB4 was still in it's first season. At first I thought it wasn't fair, but the fact is the boy can sing and deserved to be there so I was cool with it.

  • Both groups can sing better than me but compared to other people...they suck. And why in the world was donny performing with the boy group. Its basicly like its a six man group.

The only reason they getting any time now cause they on this tv show and guess what puffy getting paid. Once they off the show they will be yet another use to be on Bad Boy. Yea the show is boring i will have to agree with that. I do think the guys are talented they just made one mistake. Messing with Bad Boy there careers were done before they started.
