The Wire Season 5 Ep. 2 Recap: "Unfinished Business"

Mmm. I think that was a VERY appropriate title for the second installment. And it was DAMN good.
Before we get into this thing, I want to make clear that I am STILL working on my Connect-The-Dots game with this show. Too many damn characters! But I am working on it, and I'm getting caught up in the rapture that is The Wire.
With that being said... I decided that for these recaps, I'm going to let y'all have ALOT of input. Feel free to use Monday's postings as a CONDUCIVE dicussion launching pad for STRICTLY The Wire business. I'm really interested in how y'all feel. I want to read y'alls comments & opinions as The Wire VETS as I hope y'all read and accept my comments as a The Wire NEWBIE. By the series' end, I want to get to the point where I know you all will be-- and where I similarily was at the end of The Sopranos (WE WON'T EVEN GET INTO THAT F-CKED UP SH*T OF AN ENDING)-- confused, hurt, gratified, questioning, sad, angry-- anything but indifferent.
Aight, so let's get into it; and I'll dissect Ep 2 the best way I can.
I'm reposting one of the videos that I put up last week because the scene was actually featured last night.
They Tried To Make Him Speak At Rehab... (and at first) He Said No, No, No...
From a newbie's point of view-- they made a good decision making this the episode opener.
It's so attention-grabbing that it will MAKE you sit on your couch til' the episode's over-- an hour later.
Here's the thing-- I'm completely enthralled with Bubbs' character now. And of course, that's mostly due to the way Andre Royo portrays him. That "dope fiend lean" testimonial is priceless and too real. He's breathing life into one of the world's most voiceless characters that we pass on the street every day-- a junkie, reformed junkie, whatever you want wish; that's trying to regain and maintain the little dignity that they have left. For some reason, I like watching those types of stories. So forgive me if I find him the most intriguing character on the show.
Back to the situation at hand-- I was watching the testimonial scene play out with a family member of mine who has been a member of NY's Probation Dept as used to work in a hospital with former drug addicts for years. As we watching, she said to me, (and mind you, she's going off of her knowledge of people, NOT of the show) "[Bubbles] is still using".
Me: "How you figure that?"
Family Member: "Because he talked too much about where's been and not about where he is now."
I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt. Through my research, I know he has a track record of using and stopping. I also know he's deeply tortured about Sherrod and the "hotshot" situation, so he has to take his babysteps. Any mere curve will send him right back on the needle-- he's too fragile. Plus, did y'all peep the scene where he was scrubbing the life out of those pots & pans in the soup kitchen? I don't know 'bout y'all, but I took it metaphorically-- I saw it as he was trying to cleanse his soul or some deep sh*t like that. Any debates about Bubbs' sobriety?
Aight, enough about Bubbs. I realize that with this, I can't do a straight blow-by-blow recap, I gotta jump all over the place and then tie it all up at the end. Bear with me!
Speaking of unfinished business, Marlo, Chris, and Snoop have a discussion about... in my own words.. dumping the trash for talking trash (read:: Junebug) Marlo also says that "he wants that d-cksucker"-- meaning Omar. Yeah, when the HELL is he gonna show up?
The most poignant scene in the episode for me happened in the car with Snoop, Chris P and Michael, in which Michael tries to make sense of why Junebug's head is on the table. Straight up, he gots to go NOT because he actually SAID Marlo sucks d*ck, but people THINK he said it, and they can't have that rumor floating about.
Wow... d*ck sucking is a really sensitive subject with these folks.
Later, they discuss methods of killing on another hit, and when it's actually done, my girl Snoop gets out and says,
"F*ck them West Coast n*ggas, 'cuz in B-More, we aim in the head, ya heard?!"
Damn. I don't know THAT much about shorty, but I'm intrigued. You GOTTA love the
hench(wo)man with the hottest one-liners!
I also loved the way that Chris matter-of-factly explains to Michael that it has to be done... like he was explaining the difference between a black and a blue shirt. So calm. I've always been a fan of this actor-- I liked him ever since he was Yinka on the Showtime Series version of Barbershop. Do y'all know what I'm talking about? His big thing was that he didn't know how to talk dirty the appropriate way, he'd say ish like, "I'm going to stick my quivering penis into your undulating vagina!" and the chick would say, "You need Jesus!" There aren't any clips online... sorry.
Chris appeals to me too-- I love the bad guy that makes sense... story of my past relationships...
ANYWAY, what's sad about this is because when they do pop Junebug, they take out everybody in the house-- except a lil' boy that's hiding in the closet. That struck me kinda hard-- I hate hearing stories like that. Thank G-d he was saved, because I also hate hearing stories about how ruthless killers murder defenseless children... and it obviously affected Detective Kima as well. Pay attention-- because next week, a storyline will be how this killing WON'T make the front page of the Baltimore Sun.
Speaking of which... what did y'all think about the scene between the two newspaper editors arguing over the wheelchair truant boy story?
I know y'all want to discuss the prison visits. Marlo's trying to make a connect with The Greek-- but has to go through The Russian (These Europeans OBVIOUSLY are the sh*t). So he goes to the prison to see him and -- *surprise!* -- Avon comes out to talk to him, because The Russian won't because he doesn't know him. Words are exchanged, Avon helps Marlo "find his tongue" and says that if he winds up striking a deal, he's gotta send Avon's sister a hundred grand. Marlo comes to the prison a second time, and The Russian comes out and tells Marlo that the prison (as well as Marlo Stanfield) aren't sh*t. I gotta co-sign that-- n*ggas think they hard for doing a bid in the U.S.... trying doing that sh*t OVERSEAS. That's on another LEVEL of maximum security-- especially in f*cking Siberia. ANYWAY...
The Russian is going to connect Marlo with The Greek. Hmm.
Ok, I've done exhausted my fingers. Let me just ask y'all this before I bounce-- what do y'all think of what McNulty's trying to do? I know the cops aren't being paid... and he's trying to CREATE a case... y'all don't think that's a little desperate? Was Bunk right for leaving?

Michael is not cut out for the killing. They told him to kill whoever comes out the back door - it was another little boy - so I am sure that this lil dude will come back to haunt Snoop and Chris before it's over - but the police gotta find him first - I think Michael is going to end up killing Snoop or Chris - maybe both.
I don't really like the Avon storyline. I LOVE Wood Harris but I like Avon out on the street.
I miss Prez and the kids at the school. I miss Bunny and Namond.

I don't know what these other niggas talking about but the show was good but you never mentioned about the debate in the bar about how you can go along way in this country killing black men, that was the most powerful part misdemeanor murders. the problem being that in america white life is valued more than blacks for instance. i dont know if you heard of this story but a college girl was missing named taylor beal, of course she was white. i have no problem with the fact her story went local and the fact she was missing for a while went national. But a black girl went missing the same day and she made the local news for 10seconds, and until this day a couple years later they still have updates on the white girl.

I don't think McNulty is going to get in trouble for tampering with those dead bodies. Bunk is not going to snitch on him because cops stick together. Plus the cops on this show already get away with doing alot of stupid shit. Like in season 3 with the whold Hamsterdam thing, when that black cop moved that dead body a few blocks down so the Police Cheif wouldn't find out about the cops letting the drug dealers sell their drugs in Hamsterdam.
Or in season 2 where Mcnulty was a Policeman with the Port Authority and he figured out that the dead hookers body was done in Baltimore and not on the river front

the Newspaper Editor scene was a common scenario but important in this instance because it shows how easy it is to manipulate the detail of a story in order to manipulate the readers. Manipulation and Media are the co-existing sub-themes of the season...... The final scene of the episode is the begining and a supporting detail of what i just said, watch as the season rolls on..
aiight now onto Chris and Snoop.... they remind me of fire and ice, Chris got dat Calm, Quiet, but deadly killa instinct in him. Snoop on the other hand is a ball of hell-fire and the most ruthless killa ever presented in the entertainment genre...........
Chris brought Mike in so the moment in the car is a Teacher/Student moment where Chris just lettin him know, when you reach da status Marlo's on, any blemish of disrespect, minor or major, is a weakness.
and in the house shoot-out scene, it was two left behind Breezy, it wasnt just da lil dude in the closet, but the first one who ran out the backdoor that Mike let live.......
Snoop's poppin-out and poppin-off was classic, she said fuck dat TV gangsta drive-by shit the young dude was facsinated with, she locked her wrist and used the good ol human scope, which was way more effective than randomly shooting at a corner from a moving vehicle.....
and yeah Marlo need to get to greeks bad as fuck, he tired of Prop Joe's snake ass, and been onto him since he sent Omar to rob him and that card-game last season.... the only reason he spared Prop Joe this long is because he's like the only connect left since Stringer got merked and Avon is cased-up.....
so Avon was the co-signer because they was Avon and Stringers suppliers...... Avon expresses his love for the Westside element of the street-game and apparently let bygones be bygones, and charged to the game, not only to Stringer's death but Bodie as well...
With that being set-up, it gives Marlo what he wanted, total control of the Westside, with the greeks supplying him, he's the Westsides main supplier and bout to take over Prop Joe and his "Co-Op" on the East since he dont have to pick-up from them anymore........

Dayum The Wire is in full effect too bad it's the last season. Hey do I see a new coop developing, it's the east sides rebirth. As far a McNulty goes I wish he put the bottle back down, but what he is doing with the bodies are cold, but very smart. He knows they need money and that is the way to get.

-I see Marlo catching some heat(not sure what kind/how much) behind his decision to mess with the Greeks vice the council(or whatever they call themselves inside the hotel conference room). He's a bad dude going one at a time, but there's no way he could seriously hold up if all of them cats went in on him together.
-McNulty is either brilliant or a fuggin idiot. I'mma go wif a brilliant idiot.
Interesting point about the truant kid in the wheelchair. Did they show him? I don't recall seeing anyone! I think the reporter's making that sh*t up. I think the Black editor is gonna rub it in the whole paper's face, too, when the whole thing blows over..

Prop Joe ain't makin it past the next episode, if he does he's done by the 4th most definite (sorry to spoil shit, bastidz) ....... thats gonna come from the Greeks and Marlo uniting, cutting out Prop Joe as the supplier, makin him str8 food for the Westside Warlord......
yeah Bubs just goin through his guilt trip of accidentally givin/leavin around that bad dose for Sherrod in Season 4. I think he'll stay clean, unless a dramatic turn of events happen at the seasons end.....
yeah i think the story of E.J. is made-up too, just so he could make up a deadline, thats why Gus (the black editor) kinda gets heated when he's overrode by his superiors, but then keeps quiet because they all complaining about the sales of papers and etc. being down, and he realizes that the sensationalism may not be such a bad thing, but he'd rather it be done factually....
so the whole media thing being incorperated in the season shows contrasts between whats factual and ficticious and how it effects ghetto usa, on a daily basis...
i feel kinda bad that people can pick this up via whats on TV, but are so blinded to the fact that this is happening daily outside our own front doors and amongst our media outlets small and whole-scale levels....

You know what? I can see Prop Joe getting popped off now. There's no more reason for him now that the Greek and Marlo will connect. More work for Chris n Snoop?
And someone wrote above about the link b/w Mike and Chris... yeah I read that they were both raped... well I read Mike definitely, and Chris beats to death Mike's stepfather possibly because he went through the same thing. Was it ever confirmed that Chris WAS in fact, raped?

Yep, this shit goes on everyday, EVERYWHERE. And it is really sad that we can recognize it in a cable drama, but yet not realize it when we get daily hard news.
Now like I said... I'm a Newbie, so excuse me for completely thinking out the box for this one... is there anyway in HELL that Marlo WON'T make it to the series end? Hit me up and let me know.
Here are my thoughts/predictions on whats goin on so far
1. I think Bubbs has Aids/Hiv and he's dying (u notice how he was looking at that whit gurl when said she was hiv infected)
2. Mcnulty needs to put the bottle down, the alcohol plus his obession with marlo is goin be his downfall and he probably will do something even crazier by the end of the season , he very old school and Marlo is a different kind of criminal because he dosen't even have respect or morals even 4 a drug dealer
3.OMAR GOES ON A ALL OUT WAR WITH MARLO ( I 'M PREDICTING THEY GON KILL HIM THOUGH)
5.Micheal gets killed
6.Dunkie/duquan steps up
7.marlo doublecrossings the whole co-op
There's soo much I would like to say about this season of The Wire, but I don't want to give anything away. Marlo is just tired and VERY suspicious of Prop Joe's "middle-man" role in the co-op's purchasing and distribution of the dope in MD. What Marlo fails to realize IS, that "the game" is played on many differnt levels and that all those levels must compliment one another. He has no balance in his crew like the Barksdale's did. Stringa was the brains and Avon was the muscle. Chris is cool but he is not as business minded as Stringa was. McNulty's case has to be exploited and he will suffer the consequences. Marlo wants Omar but how he gets him to come out will bring out an Omar that none has EVER seen.
i think Marlo will get locked before he actually dies off, i'm not sure, i did hear Snoop and Chris gets bagged eventually...
and yeah i think Chris was molested as well, there was no direct evidence of this, but the way Chris acted once he found out Mike was being touched was implication enough, that Chris was either physically or sexually abused the same as Mike which is where the connection stems from.
i think Mike is gonna kill Marlo if Marlo does indeed die, and i say this because despite being on the same team, you can still see the tension between the two that started from back in Season 4..... and this tension was showed when Mike questioned why does Junebug gotta get merked over heresay......
Yeah Prop Joe is outta here, the shit he did wit Omar robbin that Card-Game ain't sit too well wit Marlo since day zero.... especially once Marlo found out it was Prop Joe who set da shit up..... right now Marlo is playin a serious game of chess with the Eastside they just don't know it yet......
As far as Omar, yeah the nigga loses more than a few screws, i'm not even sure what brings this nigga back into the picture.... it's obviously somethin in Ep. 3 or 4, possibly one of the two relevant killings that will take place..... but Omar is definitely goin looney, beyond the whole homo-thug thing, this nigga gotta be one of the most multi-demensional characters in urban tv.....

nah bubs aint got no disease, he takes a test in the later episodes..... he wishes he does because he feels like all the years of him fuckin up and doin drugs, that something has to be wrong with him, as well as the fact he states he used to share needles heavy with an infected-now-deceased junkie he used to run with.....

actually not even sure whats Dookey situation or even if Mike dies, but keep ya eyes open for the development of Meth's character "Cheese" in the next few episodes, particularly after Prop Joe is out da picture and the Co-Op is reorganized....
i think Marlo will cross the Co-Op too, but thats because the main memebers of the faction are from the Eastside......
actually i wonder if ep 3 is on HBO On-Demand yet?
I'm sitting and pondering this here about Marlo, Avon and Omar, just what if all of them put there differences aside and took out the CO-OP just to get there side back to the way it should be and plus they are all money lovin Dudes..

I think Marlo is going to get killed by Omar.
Anyone remember the 2 minute meeting that Marlo had with Chris & Snoop after the police stopped following them around? Marlo told Chris & Snoop that they was going to make Omar come from out of hiding. So I think that means they are going to kill one of Omar's family members or a close friend and that shit is going to make Omar go after Marlo
I don't think Marlo is making it to the end. He relies on Snoop and Chris a little too much for his muscle. Take them down and he can be taken down. Plus I got this funny feeling Michael is going to kill him. It's a miracle Prop Joe has made it this far. It's time for him to go. I'd like to see Omar make it til the end. As for Bubs HIV might get him. The real life Bubs died from it.
I've been a The Wire fan frm 2001. So i know the WHOLE set up of the show. Michael was raped by his brother's dad and Chris was too, that's why you see he doesn't have much interaction with women on the show. I'm waiting to see how Namond turned out from last season, because at the start of last season everybody thought he would be like his dad (Wee-Bay). I'm still mad about my boy JD Williams (Bodie) getting killed last season. I think Marlo is really going to stress the fact that Slim Charles should be in charge, like he did at the meeting in the first episode.
What brings Omar out from hiding it that Snoop and Chris kills Butchie (who was Omar's bank and guider). It seems like they tortured him like the Barksdale crew did Brandon in S1. Marlo and Omar is going to war I think but Omar might bring in Br Mouzzone to get shit done. Michael is getting tired of the killing u saw it at the end of s4 when he blanked out in the car and the had to remind him to get rid of the gun. Snoop and Chris are going to caught for either killing Michaels pop or when they killed the security guard from the badge snoop dropped. Mcnulty is going under the jail with a big nigga named Soapy for the shit he's pulling. This is just my thoughts.

Whats up! I usually speak on the subjects going on is SOHH Sports and SOHH NYC (reckless is wack) but someone wrote in the sports section about "breezy" getting owned or w/e. Me, personally, i dont care about what this girl looks like and im not sure why y'all care.

First off I would like to say The Wire is doing a great job so far of bringing it all home to the big finale, you can tell in each episode that they aint gonna leave no characters story untold (or hopefully they won't)
I understand that the game is the game and that if you get in it and you got kids you puttin your kids life in jeporady, with that being said seein those kids in that house when that all went down Fucked Me Up. I know its real but damn I just hate to think about what happens to the innocent kids in them situations. I love Michael but I think if his tru feelings keep gettin in the way of his choice he made to join da crew he might get got and I hope that don't happen. McNulty is obssessed as usual, Bubs is dealin wit a lot of shit but is a strong dude and I'm rottin for him. Marlo is such a BITCH but a smart one I just hope he gets popped maybe Omar might get to do it. I know its about to go down. That paper shit is borin as hell and I wish they would stop wastin our time wit it I mean I get the point but damn why wast time when we could be finding out about old and new memorable charcters. Snoop is the shit but damn why yall gotta be killin babies and shit ya know that some hoe shit straight up!!!!
