Wow . . . I guess you can’t always talk your way out of things, huh?

I don’t own a flower shop, but nevertheless, let’s take a moment to honor the memory of the fallen . . .

(This right here is a real treat for those of you that don’t have On-Demand, or were unaware that it was posted on the Net)

By the way, did anyone jump when Chris pulled it? I did...

After watching this particular episode, I realize that what I mainly need to do is absorb. Sheeeeit, I watched the episode twice! I decided that with this re-cap, I’m gonna relax and take notes on what Y’ALL thought of it. I’m gonna handle this like a reactionary piece as opposed to a straight re-cap. Of course, I gotta give you the appetizers before I serve up the main course. . .

Okay, I’m gonna start by getting the McNutty-ness outta the way.
He’s got Lester Freamon on his side now, which I think may serve to his benefit for a lil while (the downfall is obviously imminent). He makes him investigate the homeless community as if they were working a real case, because, as Freamon puts it, “we get sloppy, we get cuffed” . . . and no doubt about it that he’ll sell Jimmy’s pretty police @ss for cigs all up and down the cell block if they do. On that note . . . I did NOT catch where Freamon got those teeth from, and I don’t wanna know. THAT was some sick azz sheeeeit. I can’t imagine what new low they’re going to sink to next.

But, if you saw the show’s opener, you can tell how desperate the cops are to catch cases. Tony the Narc’s arrest of those kids was soooo unnecessary, and it led to them beating on an innocent teacher on his way to an after-school program. Ugh . . . not a good look for Baltimore PD.

The scene that yanked at my heart strings was when Det. Greggs went to interview her sole witness in the home invasion shooting– that little boy, who has been stunned into a sullen, unresponsive silence. Like Kima said, “how do you come back from something like that?” – you don’t. Well, I shouldn’t say you don’t, but that’s gonna be something to plague the little boy and make his blood run cold for the rest of his life. And sadly . . . ish like this happens everyday .

Speaking of children... wow... I didn’t know respect= money. But I guess it does when it comes to drug-addicted parents. As short as this scene was, I don’t think this will be the last time we see Mike’s mother this season. I can’t figure out in what way she’ll return, but it won’t be pretty . . . I just hope it’s not anything stupid, like kidnap Bug and hold him for ransom or some sh*t.

I’ve also decided that Gus is one of my favorite characters on the show. He’s trying to hold it down on a possible sinking ship (The Baltimore Sun), and even when his colleagues question his use of profanity, and such, he continues to do him. Speaking of which, what did y’all think of him being called on it? To me, that read as, “yeah, light-skinned Negro, we’re keeping your @$$ now, but you can get cut too, don’t get it twisted.”) Power struggles are a bitch.
His “Plaques for Hacks” interpretation of the press conference was hilarious though.

Speaking of which... comments on the press conference? Do you think Burrell will keep shut on Daniel’s past? I don’t know... but his silence in the scene where Daniels tries to explain himself spoke volumes...

Aight. I know y’all are feenin’ to discuss this, so let’s get it on then.

Watching Omar on his rampage (that I know hasn’t even yet to have had begun) reminds me of the character Beatrix Kiddo, aka “The Bride” from the Kill Bill movies. He’s already made his “Kill” list; it’s just a matter of marking each and everyone off. And from a newbie’s standpoint, if had never did the research nor watched a previous episode, just by his tone of saying, “Sweet Jesus, I’ma do them in,” would make me conclude that he was gay automatically. But I’d never call him that to his face; I wanna live. Gotta give it to Slim for trying to play the hard role even though you know he was scared as sh*t. At least he was able to hold it in...unlike Hungry Man.

Secondly, I think the scene between Prop and Slim Charles in front of the flower shop was excellent for story purposes, but we know better. Why? First of all, he’s sending the flowers mainly to prove to Omar that he had no ties to Butchie’s murder, yet, “outta respect for that man’s skill set, I’ma take myself outta the lineup”? Okay, buddy. This entire scene PROVES that although you don’t want to make any moves on kin, YOU KNEW that bum @$$ nephew of yours set Butchie up. You’re taking the wrong person out of the line up– and that should’ve been done literally, not figuratively speaking. Then, you publicly reprimand Cheese at the Co-Op meeting without figuring that Cheese may be feeling particularly spiteful, especially when Marlo’s calculating @$$ (did y’all peep his expression during the whole Cheese/Hungry Man altercation) decides he’s into gift-giving towards the end of the episode.

SIDEBAR: Not to get off the track, but when seeing Meth enter the abandoned space where Hungry Man was being tied up, didn't you hope that he'd act out the "Torture" interlude (the one during "Bring The Pain") on Hungry Man? I kept imagining him saying "I'll f-ckin slice ya eyelids and feed you nothing but sleeping pills"... ha ha ha ha ha ha...

Aight, back to biz. I'm not overly empathetic towards the double-crossing Joe, but at least for him, blood is thicker than water. According to Cheese, blood ain’t thicker than a stack of bills.

Which leads me to believe that Cheese will possibly be killed at some point; you can only trust a person who is blinded by cheese for so long. He is officially the Worst Relative Ever.

I’m done for now. Can I get some feedback on y’alls’ thoughts on Prop Joe’s death scene? Should Marlo have let him live?
Who do you think is gonna get popped next?
And ladies, here’s a thought for you: isn’t Slim Charles’s voice sexy? Mmm....

  • Well, I have to say, it has been a crazy week keeping all that I know in. I saw this weeks epi last week cuz, like I said before, I have demand and if you can stay up past midnight on Sunday and have demand, you can catch the next epi....anyway, I just have to say, keep an eye on Marlow, he is not slipping as much as you think he is....Omar is too damn gay**ngster(haha, still makes giggle) that boy don't play when it comes to his peepz....And a deep question, what the hell is Slim going to do now that Prop Joe is gone? You know he was very loyal to Prop Joe and he wouldn't betray him last year and roll with Marlow; Do you think Marlow will spare him or chalk-line him?....I think Burrell will keep quiet, for now anyway....Clay Davis is NOT going to roll for those that are in bed with him but may have more power; he isn't stupid at all.....McNulty and Lester are not going to slip up cuz Lester will find a way to use this opp to his advantage....I wish I could go into detail about next week's epi, but I am not a spoiler, I will hold my tongue for now, but only one hint**Chris, Snoop & Omar....PONDER THIS!!!!

  • I tell you what. Marlo's character is real parallel to how these young boy out in the streets are coming up now a days. They figure, why work harder than the next man, when you can just take his ass out the picture. The Greeks knew they shouldnt get involved with him because murderers draw more heat. But...money talks.

Prop Joe is the definition of the Last of the real OG's. And my man Bodie was true to the game and a loyal soldier.

  • I agree with Hoodie. Marlo is just covering all his bases. Thats why he killed joe. Cheese wont last long out here either. Hes a hot head and runs his mouth. You cant have no one like that runnin around in the streets. Greed is always the downfall of the dope man. Marlo is/was getting mad quap/papa/etc. just play your position and bow out gracefully.

  • Man is born free but eventually consumed by the chains of responiblitiy. Hip hop is one of those chains taht hold people back and is a destructive force in the black community. It must b done away w/ cuz the youth r being destroyed in our streets. How is it that the black man is always the target of rage? Why is he always under attack by outsiders? The reason is bcuz black people do not love themselves. They hate each other w/ a passion. Hate is one of the most destructive forces on the face of the earth. It causes my people to fall. Hip hop is causing a tear in the black commuity. No one cares because it is not affecting them but when the pressure is on the brothers and sisters of tommorrow r reaching out for love. Where is the love at? It is too easy to hate people cuz they are from a different geographical region. As long as this continues hip hop will b the leading cause of division. BAN HIP HOP NOW!

  • I'm not too thrilled that Marlo did Prop Joe. Joe was putting Marlo on to some real big boy shit - how to handle your paper and wash it up and how to resolve differences with your enemy without bloodshed and police and both still get money. Prop gave Marlo guidence he couldn't get no where else. Marlo starting to hit people that actually helped him - a sign that his eventually demise is sooner than later.

Cheese (Meth) will definitely be killed pretty soon. If he sold out Joe (his blood), Marlo know he can't trust him.

All the OG's are gone - Brody, Joe, Wee Bay (jail), Avon (jail), and Stringer. Omar is the only real OG left.

  • @Raw Dawg...I feel you on being unhappy to see Marlo giving Prop Joe a different kind of going away vaca. But I can see why Marlo did it and if you think about it, Joe did it to himself, If you read the Art Of War...you learn alot and one thing is when you hold the upper hand , you give out crumbs but never give out a share. In other words, once Joe gave up his connect/lawyer/money laundering then what power did he have? Power is not just a gun or money it's who you know too. Prop Joe was trying to win over Marlo , but Joe said it (last season i think) that Marlo is cold and that there was "No talking to the boy" . Once Marlo's mind is set, that's pretty much it. So Joe guessed he could set up a proposition with Marlo, if there was ever beef, by winning his favor...guessed wrong.

I think the actor who plays Marlo is really great and may move on to great things, THE COLD COLD look in his eyes really makes you feel like he has that "fuck the world" vibe that tupac was always trying to preach. I'm sure most of you here have known someone like that and if you do , then you know the look i speak of.

    Scary....

    Peace....

  • Am I the only one who Never liked Prop Joe. Talked to damn much. I was surprised when he got shot, although after I think about it, it makes sense. I had to explain why to 2 people last night. My prediction is that Omar will be the last man standing. He has been the best character throughout the series. i still dont see how Slim was Joes right hand man all of a sudden, but anyways. Is B'more that big that the Co-Op has like 20 kingpins. They need to show the kids more often.

  • Dirty South Central46 says...
  • The show is usually unpredictable, but it was obvious when Avon got locked up, that Prop Joe's days were numbered. The dope game runs on 2 things: money & muscle. Joe had long paper and a hard connect, but his muscle was way short. As a result he was always trying to avoid conflict- that's what the co-op was about. He dealt with Stringer behind Avon's back, and he set Marlo up to get robbed. Joe was always scheming and plotting, and it caught up to him. He owed to much to the game, and that's what happens. Marlo will be in a box or a cell soon, because Omar is going to drop all his muscle. Mcnulty and/or Freemon are getting locked up.

  • January 28, 2008 3:35 PM
  • Dirty South Central46 says...
  • Slim will get picked up by Marlo or some other crew that needs muscle. He came to Avon when Avon started dumpin with Marlo. When Avon got locked up, Slim got with Prop Joe. Slim will land on his feet. He's muscle for hire, no more, no less. And he got a solid resume'.

  • The Greeks were dumb for choosing marlo over prop joe because marlo's style is like barksdale which is kill, kill, kill. It attracts too much heat. This was a bad turn for everyone. The co-op is over because of that as well

  • Well the teeth thing, I want to say he made them cause he does stuff like that. I think the Greeksmade a good choice in Marlo cause Prop. Joe was playing the Greeks (If you remember last season when Marlo and the Greek were talking in the park alone. *I notice those thing.) , He was playing Marlo (Cause he was the one that help Omar rob Marlo's connect and help Omar sell it back to him for a higher price last season. But that's not the ONLY thing, he told Omar a place to rob *a poker spot, and Marlo got robbed by Omar. That's how the whole beef between the started.) and he was playing Omar (By dealing with Marlo and the Greeks period.). That was fucked up how Cheese knew what was going to happen to Prop. Joe, I wonder how he is going to do running the shop now?
