The Way It Is Ep. 5: "Generation Curse"

Anyway... what did you guys think of last night's episode? There are a few things that I'd like to bring to your attention. I've noticed this not only with this show but with Gotti's Way as well-- they keep resurfacing the same issues. Not to say that all of their problems should be solved by now, but we haven't really learned anything new in development... except that K. Cole's birth father may be alive-- and a fan of the show, as well!

At the top of the episode, the three women are sitting in their therapist's office for another session. Frankie comes up with her theory that in terms of them dealing with men, there seems to be a "generation curse" in their family, and "the men just want to just flow through." Her upstanding evidence to this fact is the number of babydaddies she's had, Neferteria's husband issues and Keyshia's men issues. I don't think it's as heavy as she's making it out to be. I wouldn't call it a "curse" per se, I just think that they pick the wrong guys.
Manny (the manager) decides he's hasn't stuck his nose adequately enough in Keyshia Cole's business, so in this episode, he tries to locate her father. Now, here's where the details get a lil' sketchy for me... where does this Italian dude named Sal play in? I think that's who Frankie currently believes Keyshia's father is. And this random dude named Ken, like I said, saw the show, saw Frankie, and must've remembered the days when they used to get high together because now all of a sudden, he thinks he might be K. Cole's pops because he slept with her in 1981. Oooookkkaaaaaay. Towards the end of the show, Manny and Frankie have kind of a testy conversation about Frankie's past. Now here's the QUESTION OF THE DAY I'd like y'all to think about: Do you think the way Manny speaks to Frankie is appropriate? The reason why I asked this is because I watched this episode with my sister (who's a TWIS newbie) and she thought that since Manny technically is "a hired professional" (thats not the phrase she used, I'm just cleaning it up, he should behave as such and not speak to Frankie any old way despite her past, especially since Keyshia herself doesn't address her in that manner. I'd never thought about it in that way-- comments? Thoughts?
Ken and Keyshia take DNA tests anyway. Why? Because Keyshia play the "Maury Povich Facial Match-Up Game" and figures that because she and the man have a similar cheekbone structure, they might be related. ::cough cough:: His rent is 3 months past due, that's why you his daughter, girl! Stop saving this hood rats! ::cough cough::
Going more into issues with Frankie, I want to bring up the fact that Neffie's husband comes to visit the children. Things pop off into a heated argument between Neffie, Frankie and the husband, causing Neffie to explode into angry shouts & tears. Here's the thing though: she's STILL crying over the fact that her husband's schtupping her cousin. Honey... seriously... this man may still be legally bound to you, but if he had the audacity to go and do what he did, he's no husband. You need to accept that and let that dog get what he deserves. You're in your current position because you're starting over. Repeat: STARTING OVER.
Speaking of which, I understand why she felt the need to credit her step-mom for raising her, but bringing that up in front of Frankie as well as bashing her in the process is counter-productive towards the mending of your relationship. And of course, Frankie breaks down because she's not trying to hear about what she did in the past. Sheeeit, why should she? Homegirl got new teeth, a new weave that still looks f-cked up. She trying to get her groove on and back and y'all throwing salt in her game (I'm being COMPLETELY sarcastic, BTW).
When it comes to these women, you may give 'em a shine or two, send them to professional help, but something's still not progressing here. It's time to take a step UP--- TO CHURCH. That's DEFINITELY something that's going to have to happen in order for the two of them to ever get right.
Final thought of the day: When did this show become about the family and NOT about Keyshia Cole? I felt like I saw her like... twice during this episode. Seriously. They just beauguarded her sh*t, ha ha ha.

Damn, to say the least, I totally agree with you. I sat there shaking my head thru the entire episode, every week they yellin' at Frankie and throwin' F-bombs tellin' her SHE wasn't there and she fires back "I'm tired of hearin' that!!!!!!!!!!!". LOL!!!! Man, I'm like, can we move on to somethin' else. Question - since Frankie had been locked up for a while, how long has Manny even known her to be talkin' to her the way he does? I'm jus' sayin'. As for Neffie's ex-dude - he's wack just like his car. I get that she loves him and everything but I could tell by the way he kept lookin' over her head that he don't give a damn about her. Neffie, you playin' ya self. You pregnant by somebody else at the moment - so move on. Oh yeah, in last months' Sister 2 Sister magazine, Keyshia did reveal that "Italian Cuzz" is her pops. I'm outta here.

What type of lady would have so many kids by so many men. She cant even tell K.C. who he daddy is, now that fucked up. When frank gets herself back together then he should tone it down but, u have 2 treat them crack heads like that sometimes...
I agree with Hop. Recovering addicts have to earn their respect back. Frankie don't even know where ALL of her kids are. Let alone who their father's are. I think Frankie needs to just take all the sh*t they hand her...after all they took the jacked up start in life she handed them.She should be happy they want anything to do with her at this point in their lives.
I was thinking the same thing regarding hardly seeing K.C. in the shows, but then my wife put it to me in a brown paper bag and said...what difference does it make if she's on the show? She's an exec producer so she's getting paid off of her name and famiy's pain/healing. Ch-ching!!! Money in the bank. I personally feel that she's going to have to leave them alone, because they're going to eventually bring her down. But then...she'll have more things to write about and get to that Mary J. level of pain.

What kills me is how niggas act like they from the ghetto and when they see ghetto shit they act like they aint seen it before. This shit aint nothing new.
