Monday Mayhem: Joe Budden Finds The "Star Inside", Nas Is "Surviving The Times"

Posted on November 5, 2007 9:00 AM

Good morning, y’all!

Let me just get straight into it. I’ve been a Joe Budden fan since “Pump It Up.” But I know that he has even hotter material out there than that.
So, that being said, let’s pop things off with this inspirational song/video from Joe Budden entitled “Star Inside Me”, that I stumbled upon over the weekend. The video was directed by Rik Cordero, which I have to mention ‘cuz this dude’s got music videos on smash right now!

QUOTABLE LYRIC: “I’m not saying don’t cop a Benz son don’t have a ring whatever thing’s timely/ those things help to unwind me/but those things don’t help define me.”

Give it to ‘em, Joe!

So, this n-gga’s got a new video out.

Weelll... not quite.

This is really just a video montage of various clips and scenes featuing God’s Son. AND the track is to be featured on his Greatest Hits CD, not... you know. Don’t make me say it.

Now.. by show of comments... how many people knew where Nas got the sample from this song from STRAIGHT OFF THE BAT?

Give up? It’s from THE WIZ (Ease on down, ease on down the roooooooad!!!) The original song is entitled, “What Would I Do If I Could Feel”, and is sang by the Tin Man while he laments not having a heart (YEAH, I’m a fanatic, SO F*CKING WHAT!!!) Yo, when I started looking at the Nas video, I tripped out! I have a crazy talent for naming song samples off-hand, and it only took me, like, literally 3 seconds to call this one. RIP to Nipsey Russell, no doubt... I LOVED him as the Tin Man.

I’m feeling this joint, though. It’s Nas– he rarely disappoints (::cough:: titling your album N-gga ::cough, crickets::). I’ll rock with it.

And the video montage idea is aight, too. At least he didn’t jump on the “HP Pavillion commercial” video treatment bandwagon.

I'm out y'all! Check me later on for that Salt N Pepa AND Irv Gotti recap. I also may have another video for y'all midday, so check up on me!

WHO LOVES YA, BABY?

  • Joe Buddens is that dude! At first I wasn't feeling him because of the Pump It Up Joint. But I listen to a whole bunch of his freestyles and was amazed. I now understand the whole Pump It up BS was the standard obligatory commercial single to catch a buzz, usually not the song that defines someones of Joe's Talent.

Imma come str8 out and say it. If intelligence, and true human emotion was what people actually crave, Joe would go platinum in a day. Unfortunately, due the societies current infactuation with materialism and avoidance of anything the involves thinking for more than two seconds, Joey will never have the commercial success of those who are obviously less talent. However, a real MC is loved by real fans, knows this, appreciates this and uses this as a drive force to produce a high quality of music.

  • Knowing how predictable some of you kats are, now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with getting money. But there is some thing wrong with expecting to get money for something when the quality is not up to par.
E.g. Instead of going McDonalds, BK or wendy's you may go to a neighbourhood restaurant to support them financially. But if there food isn't at an acceptable quality why would you spend money there.

  • I left Budden for dead after he kept puttin out wack ass G-unit disses before that when he was with Fab and Stack Bundlez he was hot...niggas slept on Desert Storm hard. This is the realest Buddens shit i heard since that Clinton Sparks shit. This Nas joint is decent more of a "last single" vibe maybe NaS should go that route

  • Not a Buddens fan, that song "Pump it up" got annoying after the first one million times I heard it and dudes voice got equated with annoying in my head, sorry but it's true...I say that to say that Joe B. does have some talent and can really spit, with all of the wackness that gets released these days a real talented dude like Buddens should be able to find a label who will market him correctly, I don't see any reason why he can't be a cross-over success. He's already proved he can make hit songs, regardless of how annoying they are.
