Jay-Z Says The Darndest Things! (Jigga's Letterman Appearance)

Posted on November 5, 2007 1:00 PM

Hey y’all... I was creepin’ on the ‘Net, and I found this clip of Jay-Z on David Letterman. I didn’t see this when it originally broadcasted, SO DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER, OKAY?!

I just wanted y’all to check it out, especially for those of you who haven’t seen it. Jigga’s talking to Letterman about his “non-retirement” and about the soon-to-be-released-yet-already-leaked American Gangster album.

Is it me, or for some reason Jay-Z’s giving off a slighly younger exuberance, like he's just hit 30+ and not approaching 40? "I'm 35...6...7" <-- CLASSIC!
Maybe it’s just me. Maybe because he’s actually being funny– WE DEFINITELY need to see more of your sense of humor, Hov. But damn, he was serious about rebirthing his "Jigga" persona! He didn't even show up for the show in his currently-requisite cable knit sweater and tie! It is what it is.

Also... “Roc Boys” is my sh-t right now on the regular... but with a LIVE BAND? Phe-f*ckin’-nomenal! I wish I could see this Hov perform this in concert. I'm still trippin' over the fact that this song was actually produced by Diddy. I see you still got in you somewhere, Puff! He gets mad props for that one, most def.

By the way, I WILL be checking out his Storytellers special on VH1 this Thursday at 9pm, and that recap will be ready for you first thing the next day.

WE IN THE HOUSE!!!!! L’CHAIM!!!

  • U could argue that Papoose is more conceptual than Jay-Z. When it comes to concepts, Pap is just a notch below Nas. But, Pap is not nicer than Jay. Jay is more lyrical, has a better punchline (metaphor and simile) game, sounds better over a mic and his flow is just sicker. Pap may have great concepts, but his flow is below average. Most people can't listen to him for a long period of time. So, i don't care how good ur concepts are, if u can't grab peoples attention with ur flow, then ur lyrics will not be felt as much as they should. That's y Nas is the best rapper alive, he is very conceptual, but his flow, lyrics, and punchline game are just as crazy. But, Jay-Z is that dude!!!

  • Pap better than Jay, that is just comical, a real emcee can do more than just rap, song making is another part of it, and u wonder why canibus never blew up like that....

this guy Pap hasnt even had ONE album, dont compare the two, matter fact, u cant really comepare nayone alive to Jay, MAYBE Nas, but he lies too much, and Letterman guessed that he was 35, he said close, u idiot!

Pap???? Dude can't sell a record to a relative. Never will. Jay is the epitome of how it should be done. Period. Regions and sales don't matter in the argument either. His catalog is prolific. His moves have had few missteps.

Come on man. Listen to the lyrics. Fallen by itself is better than most rappers entire catalogs. Give credit where it is due. NO other rapper - Stat for Stat - can even be put next to Jay. Yeah LL, that includes you.

Please get off the b.s....you're welcome

  • Ether is a lyrical ass whippin, straight up and down. You can bump that shit now and it still has its bite. And to top it off, Jay was on top of the world and was on a incredible winning streak before Ether. Jay been getting shitted on ever since. It's just funny to me how niggas refuse to say Jay lost.

Nas is the GOAT with Rakim coming in at 2nd place.

drugs got dmx and em and jay emerged as the winner after the black album he fell back and waited for 50/jah/jada/luda/juvie/camron/ 50 took the lead then the era of the ring tone rappers started souljah boy/wheezy /rick ross /jezzy /ti / mims/young joc. rap is a young mans game wheezy it trying to step up real fans of rap should let him. i remember laughing at my uncle when he told me that melle mel was better than rakim. my friends was laughing at him and he walked away ashamed it was rakims time to shine like its wezzys time and the young joc and souljah boy lets get outta the way and take it to vh1 and sip some tea and let the young folks show us the new dances .......
