Gotti's Way Ep. 6: "You Always Know So Much, And Don't Know Nothin'!"

Posted on November 27, 2007 1:30 PM

Yo, on the real, watching this show makes me feel like I’m back in my sophomore year Anthropology class, studying the mating and relating habits of an indigenous bullsh*tter and his tribe.

Except in this tribe... I wish they'd overthrow the chief.

Off the top, I just want to bring up a discussion topic that I'd like y'all to engage in regarding Irv Lo. This episode had to do with family issues clashing with his business issues. I noticed that a lot of men can’t seem to balance family and the working world, and will always give that excuse when pressed with filial duties. Whereas, with women, we have NO CHOICE but to balance the two of them. How do y’all feel about that? Please, I'd like feedback from men and women on this issue, even if you haven't started your family yet.

With this episode, we noticed that Debbie Lo is making it through her steps, similar to the steps one has to go through when they are coming to terms with the fact they're going to die soon: she was in denial for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time, then she questioned "why me?", then she tried to reason with Irv (remember "why you want your cake and eat it, too?") and now she's going through the ANGER phase, where she just lashes out at everyone. (I might've missed two steps in between, bear with me!)

Case in point: Deb and Irv attend Angie's (the daughter) fashion show, and they argue over the girl's facial expression... which leads to Deb's explosion in the car. We all know that it may've literally been about Irv "not knowing nothing", but really, it was probably going down in her head like this:

"N-gga, this life sucks! I'm tired of your a$$ thinking you can go f-ck them snowbunnies and keep me on a string! I'm tired of this bullsh*t! I want a man that wants me and no one else, and won't try to crush me in the bed when he rolls over! F-ck YOU, you fat mother-----!"

Yeah, I think that's about accurate.

I can understand. Ladies, I’m pretty sure we’ve all been involved with a man who’s tried to keep us under this thumb in order to keep his sh-t comfortable. But you gotta know when to just say no, and let it go. Let it go, let it go, let it go..... ::singing:: You need to give if he don't wanna, love you the right way he ain't gonna..." Oh sorry, I forgot: that show comes on TONIGHT!

Ok, back on track: So yeah, Debbie Deb started going OFF, like, “all you know how to do is make beats. Stick to that, I got this.”

Beats? ::cough, cough:: I thought 7 Aurelius was responsible for the hot beats?
I guess I better stop with the hate before you guys try to find me. Yes, I KNOW Irv found DMX and Jay... leave me alone!

Speaking of beats though, did anyone catch the meeting that Irv took with the two Universal execs? They looked at him like they were thisclose to giving that @$$ the cut. Desperately needing a hit like Pookie from New Jack City, he hits the studio with Ja after his return from Miami. Unfortunately, the song he and 7 just happened to be working on is-- you guessed it-- @$$ FOR BREAKFAST song, “My Body”. You know, the one where the video chick plays the role of a ho ternt sanga. IIIICK.

Ja's SO enthused though. At first he looked a lil' worried, but now you’d think Irv just told him 50 was found with an "I Heart Ja Rule" teddy bear in his bedroom... Lord...

Lastly--

Debbie has a conversation that with lil’ Sonny (the crier) about D-I-V-O-R-C-E, and he gets a lil’ bit emotional over it. He even runs away from the kitchen and into his bedroom. Damn kid. Don't let that kid watch any Michael Jackson biopics, forreal for real...
Let me stop. He's definitely allowed to be upset. OKAY? I'm not that mean!

NEXT WEEK: Irv cuts the cameras off, in more ways than one.... yep, it's the SEASON FINALE already! Damn...at least he's starting to learn when to give it a rest!

CHECK ME FOR THE KEYSHIA COLE RECAP TOMORROW!

WHO LOVES YA, BABY?

  • That's what happens when you marry a man who makes money...you take the hell he gives you. If he were broke and faithful and was a great father to those kids..she would be complaining also. The only reason she stays aroung is because of the money.

  • why do you hate irv so much??? why can't you just talk about the show? you sound like a scorned lover or something... anyway until we are able to walk in that man's shoes we should not judge him his kids seem to love him and they seem to understand that their father works hard and at this time in his career must work harder than he did before i think he is showing a decent balance, i don't like the way he does his wife at times but she's still riding with him for a reason complaining or not she still has not dropped that big divorce bomb. i think you should stick to just reporting on the show and leave your personal feelings at the door it's really played

  • First of all, you f*ckers must be stupid and deaf because Deb has said that she would choose a happy marriage over the money on atleast 3 different occassions so what point are you trying to make? It is obvious that she loves this man and it is not about the money. And just because a man has money does not mean that a woman should take being disrespected. You broke losers are always calling a woman a gold-digger like you would ever have that problem. I like the show and I do agree with Breezie or whatever your name is: Men can not juggle work and home equally the way that women have to. If we feel that we can't juggle it equally, we feel like sh*t. When is Irv Gotti going to wake up and realize that he is pathetic and when he gets out of denial and realizes that he is truly washed up, he will see that Deb is the only woman who wants him and he will go running back to her. He needs to get his home life situation together, and then maybe his business life will fall back into place.

  • First off...THAT BITCH DONT WORK...she sits at home and watches the kids and spends dudes money and gets taken care of. To compare her to regular women on some sister solidarity shit is bullshit. Irv is being real....I'll admit a lil too late. But how many of yall niggas would be loyal to ANYBODY if u was famous and could hit almost any chick u wanted? People need to be real about the situation. She has no chips in this game. What is she gonna do...tell him he cant see his kids? She should stop bitching and take her half(which she's getting anyway) and STFU.

  • Oh I am glad that you brought this up....I have to vent on last nights episode.....First Deb is an idiot for getting into a relationship where she basically doesn't contribute nothing financially but yet wants to act like she help Irv to get to where he's at....Bit$# please....Secondly that family has to be a lil more considerate towards Irv's profession....I mean he is a CEO....and along with that comes lots of responsibility and time apart from the fam...Thirdly the oldest child looked real dumb when she didn't smile on the runway and who told her ass to look like that Deb....Lastly my man Irv better take care of home first....his sons are really impacted by his rocky relationship....so running around NY being Mr. CEO/PIMP aint impressing me nor any other real men...Take care of home first homey your family really needs you....Family is all you got......Peace Rev Run Nosah.....but it's true at the end of the day his children and wife are the ones are going to hold him down.........he should hold that sacred rather than exploit them on TV.....but hey love the show.......but that last episode made homey look real wack

  • How ya'll know deb don't work. Just becuz dey don't show her at work doesn't mean she don't work. It's obvious dey show her when they kids are all around which is probably after school when she get off work. I'm sure irv want it to look that way so he had some stuff edited. He tryna look like he doing all da work. If it's a season two she probably gone say how irv had her shown at work edited out. he would pull shit like that.

  • Struggles of a black man? You have probably spent more time coming up with excuses than learning to speak english and trying to better yourself...go ahead and blame the man all your life..you wont, your kids wont..ever amount to anything..its like a proven fact...read Cornell West, listen to Bill Cosby, accept your personal misgivings, quit making excuses mooley

  • I do agree w/ Amarie.

To go a step further, every 1 arguing about marriage and money doesn't know shit. Both love, and money provide security. The only reason love is more valuable is because you can make more money.

Deb and Irv are both dumb. I understand Irv's position, but he is way too out there, and he disrespects her when trying to get on ( The dinner). Deb needs to understand, men with dicks cheat. Why get rid of Irv, for a new person who will do the same? Hell, meet in the middle, have a 3 sum for pete's sake.
Ultimately, he isn't playing the field, he is playing his kids. He holds his dad so high, why not be that for your own kids? I understand he has to work long hours. Why Deb wants him to stop to look at a photo album, I don't understand.

  • if Deb was in it for the money, she would have divorced him by now. theyve been married for 12 years; she's more than entitled to much of what he's earned in that time, especially since he's a self-admitted adulterer. she could be rich, single and mingling right now if she didn't love Irv.

if you think black people from 'the streets' are the only people to have to work harder than the next man to get somewhere... you really have lived in the same place all your life and have a limited world view

  • Ok..................I think everybody here has a point. In my opinion though, being on the outside watching this family EDITED makes things one-sided. I didn't know much about Irv at all until the show - and the show DOES make me dislike him. As for Deb, the first few episodes, I think I felt for her more because she comes off like she's trapped in no-win situation. I don't think if they got a divorce Irv would stop coming around to see the kids - he's obviously not coming around to see HER so I don't think it'll change anything. I actually would like to see Deb move on - but she would definitely need to be with someone who can maintain her lifestyle - like Irv said - unless she's got some "underground cheese on the side" like Juanita Jordan did. One thing did stand out to me though - when Angie mentioned Irv comin' over and just "sitting on the couch". LOL!!! Dude, those kids obviously NOTICE that stuff. I don't think no kid wants to see their parents' divorce but I think it would be best for Irv and Deb as long as Irv explains to those boys that it won't change his time with them. With all that said, I truly believe once Sonny and Jay-Jay get older, they'll understand why their mother wants to move on from a relationship that's only existent by name only.

  • I don't think that anyone would truly understand unless you either walked a mile in Deb's shoes, or you were going through the same or something similar. I truly felt her when she said, " I see why women stay in a marriage...for the kids." I am in her same situation. I am married to a man in the music industry, who just recently got into the industry. This whole music thing just came out of no where! I didn't see him going down this road, but I am trying to be supportive of his dreams and his goals. I don't work and he does provide the big house, the cars, and vacations, etc... But there's got to be more. We have recently went through the whole cheating thing earlier this year. I found out and immediately wanted to leave. I wanted to bail out. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS! Oh that thought passes every concerned mother. That whole tug of war issue that we have to play in our minds is sickening and very hard to cope with. As I watch this show, I see my life unfolding of things that have happened and things to come. Why stay? Why leave? I am scared either way it goes.
