Throwback Thursdays: The Southern Rapper Throwback Y'all Picked!

Posted on October 4, 2007 9:00 AM

Wassup fam!

I didn’t forget about the Southern rapper Throwback. A lot of you gave me some pretty interesting choices, but a few of you selected this particular cut, so I hunted down the video and got it for ya.
So, So without further ado.... Scarface’s “Let Me Roll.” Classic ode to weed smoking, no doubt.

God bless my older brother. This song reminds me of every single time I’ve caught a major contact high from sitting in the back seat while he was blazin’ with the windows rolled up. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve smoked (it’s just not my thing), but the last time we did that ish was at my cousin’s burial while waiting for her coffin to arrive at the cemetery. Trust me, she was a major weed head from Harlem, it was what she would’ve wanted. (Yes, Auntie, if you’re reading this... it’s true...that wasn’t hemp scented oil sheen in my hair... I’m sorry.)

But seriously, Monique, we love you and miss you more every day. Rest in peace.

I really can’t hate on this video. There’s not much to it– just Scarface and his peeps playing cee-lo, blazin’, doin’ what they do– but watching this brings back an era when videos like this USED to be hot. I mean, today’s million-dollar video directed by Hype/Lil’ X/Chris Robinson/Paul Hunter makes this ish look like it was made with a VHS tape camera... but don’t front on 1993. This was back when you got MAD HYPED when you discovered a rapper was coming to YOUR hood to film a video– yup, that’s right, you washed the cold out of your eyes, put on a fresh tee and went outside, waiting for the film crew to show up, hoping you’d get picked. So what if the only thing they showed of you in the video was your hand throwing down some dice? Damnit, nobody could tell your a$s nothing after that.

Plus, even though the broads look tacky using jelly jars as drinking glasses in this vid, at least they wore more clothes back then. What a difference a decade makes.

So I’ma let this roll.

And that’s all I really got to say about this today. Holla @tcha girl tomorrow for that "Celebrity Rap Superstar" recap.

WHO LOVES YA, BABY?
– Breezy

P.S. SEE? I CAN show love to the South... now roll that sh*t up and smoke that!

  • We’ve all seen it, or maybe have even been apart of it. We watch in amazement, and cheer them on, but do we think about the consequences?
Disruptions are nothing new to High School, whether it’s an all out brawl, or a little disagreement among two students, let’s face-we all want the details. I find it amazing how a whole body of students is so eager to see two students try to rip each other’s heads off, yet will never go to an authority figure to report it, or give them details. What is even more amazing is how the students involved react when they find out the reprucution of their actions. Do they honestly think that they can put themselves and others in harmful situations, and get let off!? Another question to ponder on is, do authorities take advantage of their omnipotent
Across the country we are dealing with issues that involve students displaying questionable behavior and then they reaction towards what they’ve done. In Jena, there is a public outcry for the young men that jumped another student, after much tension stemming from an incident thought to be a practical joke-they now have federal charges pending against them.
