The White Rapper Show: Thug It Up A Notch

Posted on February 13, 2007 12:28 PM

This week on “The White Rapper Show” John Brown, Jus Rhyme, Persia and Shamrock explore their inner gully in a series of challenges that, once again, test not their prowess and potential as MCs, but perpetuate the harmful stereotypes and idiosyncrasies of the ghetto.

Oh, yeah… and they got their asses handed to them on Hot 97, which is NOT a Clear Channel station, by the way.

Jus Rhyme in the morning symposium took the form of Xandir from Drawn Together. For those of you just joining us, Jus is on a lifelong quest to save his girlfriend, and rap from the white man.

Serch really tossed his mozzarella sticks into the deep fryer this time. Miss Jones, looking fresh out the BBW video, wasn’t about to accept any bullshit from these kids (or Ego Trip, or VH1 for that matter). Imagine if Star and Bucwild were still there! Okay, let’s not. That shit would have been messier than it already was.

See... A freestyle challenge would be great for a collection of MCs, but these kids can barely get through a 16 that they write and rehearse for 30 minutes. These kids officially can’t show their faces anywhere after this Hot “107” debacle. That touchdown cipher truly played out like a group of retards trying to hump a doorknob… and failing.

John Brown may have taken his marketing strategy too far. Didn’t Mr. Empowerment Zone say his clown ass was based out of Brooklyn? Shouldn’t this simpleton then know that Miss Jones would eat his narrow ass like a Grand Slam Breakfast?

I think it’s safe to say that my speculation was amiss. I guess Persia doesn’t want John Brown’s little viceroy in her white castle. In fact, no one’s wanted anything to do with our special boy in quite some time.

That is, no one except the one contestant more desperate for attention and acceptance, Powder.

That moose head bit was pretty funny, but man, looking at a grown man geek out like that is disturbing. That was some serious “I Am Sam” shit.

So, after completely destroying their hopes of being respected rap figures on the biggest rap radio station in the known universe, Serch dresses the kids in the finest thug fashions and immediately inserts them into the real-life version of Grand Theft Auto III. As the challenge began, I was so past criticizing the reverse coonery that all I could think was “Damn, they suckered Just Blaze AND Saigon into this shit?”

As I, of course, ponder the societal relevance of what I’m watching like the Negro Freedom Writer that I am, I observe the saddest piece of television this program has produced: The Thug Disclaimer.

Oh, yes, I of all people, understand the importance of the disclaimer. Trust me. However, a disclaimer does not absolve you or your company of responsibility for what you produce for the mass public. When your program, which is supposed to cultivate rappers, does nothing more than make a mockery of the musical genre, culture and the kids who have put their lives on hold for the carrot you dangle, you are definitely still on the hook. No cheeky disclaimer can put you in the clear.

“I hope y’all got that.”

While Jus Rhyme bust his ass on a bicycle in a manner I hadn’t seen since I was 9, the combination of summer sun, poor conditioning and pernil damn near killed The Queen of Queens. I guess the rule applies. Just because you can catch a case doesn’t mean you’re built for the urban jungle. Being that we’d seen Persia carted off in an ambulance in various commercial spots, most of us knew what was on the other side of the commercial break when homegirl went to purify herself in the waters of Lake Minnetoilet.

GTA champion Jus Rhyme had the opportunity to select any remaining contestant with him to his prize “A Thug’s Night Out” with N.O.R.E., who was quickly bored with both clown-asses. For those of you who don’t speak the dun language, N.O.R.E.’s words and body language translate as such:

“Aight. We were gonna bring y’all with us to the club and maybe to a house party after that, but we can’t be seen in public with you bitches. Y’all can finish off this champagne and cookies. I’m gonna go get my dick sucked. Peace.”

What makes all of the above even more awesomely awesome? NONE OF THAT SHIT factored into elimination!

After running around like assholes, catching cases and having heart attacks, they are told that shit was purely for the amusement of the viewing public. I’d have been ready to kill me an MC Serch. Sometimes I rub my eyes in disbelief that Prince Paul is involved in this buffoonery.

The true challenge came in the kids having to write thugged-out nursery rhymes. Persia seized this challenge as an opportunity to shank John Brown in the shower and fucked it up something terrible. Once again, all that bark and Persia couldn’t bring a damn thing to the table. I shouldn’t have been as surprised as I was. She and Sullee have been choking on the black dildo since day one, but damn. I really expected her to gun up with all the bacon on the line.

I guess John Brown gets the last laugh and his claim of Persia only having 3 verses rings true.

With that said… I’ve never had a synthetic dick on my lips.

  • This was the lamest episode yet. I think I knew Persia was going home from the get-go. I'm pulling for my fellow A-town homey, Shamrock, because John Brown's a fake and JusRhyme is lame as fuck. I was laughing at Persia's fat ass taking so long to ride the fucking bike, she couldn't even pedal, she was just coasting that bitch. Then you got JusRhyme and JB's lame asses coming off gay as hell in front of N.O.R.E. Those dudes are jokes, Persia and Shamrock were the only two real ones left.

  • Its amazing to read a blog written by a so-called "Negro Freedom Writer". The very ideals transposed in your diatribe against whitey were created in the Western Cannon. I am assuming you are somewhat educated (meaning some level of community college journalism 101 or better)and are aware that concepts such as equality etc were all created in the western world (and in particular antiquity greece). Not African, Asian or any other culture. Now I am under the full understanding that you most likely hate the white man and also are a fan of the ignorance articulated (and I use the word articulated loosely) in 50 cent, camron, the game records. Maybe more reading of Cornell West books and maybe listening to speeches by Bill Cosby will help you to realize the "attack on the hip hop culture" has been in effect for some time and the main culprits are Black people, and black men in particular. Now I understand "narrow ass crackers" are the ones pushing "gangsta" culture onto the masses. However it would be sufice to say that black peoples biggest enemies are each other. It bewilders me (I have a PHD in Politcal Science and am a fan of hip hop music of yester year, even like bumpy knuckles and m.o.p despite the negativity of their music) that instead of talking about "what i see everyday in the hood" which is the status quo excuse for the bullshit I here in Young Jeezy records, which by the way the kids that live in the projects are fully aware of, why not tell kids to get an education. Calling everything racist is not a real discourse. There are many black intellectuals in America who are writing about these various issues...READ...educate yourself, you think W.E.B Du Bois would listen to 50 cent records about killing "niggaz" and selling crack and pimping bitches??? Please, your not a Freedom Writer, just a another cog in the wheel of bullshit. You want to really contribute to your people and culture? Interview Chuck D ask him about poverty and his views on it. I have and you would be surprised on what he thinks Americans real plight is. Its called class and being trapped in a socio-economic strata that one can not get out of. PLEASE less bling bling I got money and more read read i got education.

so why the hell to you (PZ) keep posting so much and leaving comments all the time

y'all take the shit discussed in here way way too seriously

and Somturk look at what you wrote and tell me why I shouldn't say ur full of shit(which I believe you are), I'm sorry but you sound like every other white person stating their disdain for the the current hip-hop culture or black culture as a whole and I'll tell you why, the statement you used to qualify yourself are as tired as all the rest "I have a PHD in Politcal Science (qualifying your education, fine) and am a fan of hip hop music of yester year (an attempt to qualify that your "down")"...I'm not even gonna go on any further, but you need to check yourself, because while I don't believe your comments were outright rascist they were meant to add fuel to the fire and yet no sort of solution just more finger pointing...what are u personally doing to "save hip-hop", you should be trying to get this damn show off the air instead of commenting on a comedic blog written about it

Don't feed into any kind of racism, that's the punk way out.

That cat was spittin straight truth, and if folks would begin to receive it and put that first foot forward in "being" change..then it would happen.

Folks can't stand the truth, and would rather wallow around in ignorance and insultation of others. That's just fact. And when others speak on it, then the people speaking on it becomes the "problem".

Self responsibility is the first step towards self realization and self improvement. Self improvement is required before you can change anything around yourself.

Finding these hate filled blogs amusing and filling yourself up with these attitudes is dangerous to your heart and serves NOTHING to NOONE.

And while I'm just a white guy who has lived and struggled to break down racist thoughts since the earliest days I can remember, I appreciate someone coming on here and calling out Ron for calling himself a "Negro Freedom Writer."

Too many times we are looking for someone else to give us the keys so that we can unlock ourselves from the thing holding us down, when all along...we've BEEN HAD that key in our front pocket!

Why am I constantly on here? To give you folks something to think about other than ignorance. Christ is love!

    CHRIST BLESS!

  • I actually think this show is quite humorous. You can't really take a reality rap show serious anymore so, it's supposed to be more for pure comedy.

On a hip-hop point of view, let's not front and say that a couple of them aren't good. Persia, Sullee, and Jon Boy are all right.

i have huge problems with your ignorance and your post in general. apparently your PHd in political science did nothing for your cultural or anthropological understandings. the concepts of equality were not only created but but into practice in EVERY continent except Europe long before america was "founded". how are you going to even claim greece had a concept of equality when they had slaves. Even in america equality was such a problem that they had a civil war and several movements and 2 civil rights bills and affirmative action to try and get it right. Even today if you ask most black people AND latin people you will find that equality still doesn't exist here. you're smoking something if you think that black on black atrocisities are the only thing we need to worry about or even the largest negative impact. all the conditions black people know in america AND in africa are conditions that white people have created and are still creating. Hell even, Iraq was stable until white people fucked it up. But in your view you would probably blame the civil war and all their problems on the iraqies themselves. Chuck D who you touted would never say that racism isn't a major problem in this society. you don't have to interview him. just read his website www.publicenemy.com or listen to his music. which song do you want me to quote to you first. lyrics from antinigger machine, burn hollywood burn, by the time i get to arizona? the problem with people like you is that you want to ignore the effects of racism. yes there is a class and economy issue. guess what, both of those things (at least in america) are issues that are effected by race. your race even legally (for my parents and grandparents) was a factor on what jobs you got and education you recieved. and there is no fresh start in this country. over 90% of all wealth is TRANSFERRED through generations and not new. even bill gates had a rich multimillionaire daddy before he ever made money on his own. That fact alone should blast your equality theory out of the window. give your degree back to the online school that you got it from cause that piece of paper is only good for whiping your ass at the momment. you are ignorant.

PS before you even start, i'm a huge fan of education. but i believe it should be more than just paper when you get a degree.

  • OK, in reference to all this racial seething and all this "minstrel"-talk, has anyone mentioned that ego trip, the team that's responsible for creating this show, are NOT white! Not a single member of the faction is white. And if you've ever read their long-defunct magazine or any of their books you'd know that they're some of the most educated, enlightened peeps on hip-hop, race, and pop culture in general. Their completely aware of both economic/cultural gentrification. The whole point of the show is yes, of course, to entertain somewhat to fulfill Vh1's commercial requirements, but even more so, to spark discussion on race. What tv show ever has had a cast of completetly white characters discussing, reacting, and being sensitive to racial dynamics? That is what they're really trying to do.
They would be thrilled to know that dudes are debating this off this blog right now. If you think that this show is designed by some knucklehead white tv guys to "exploit" hip hop culture, you're really missing something. (that includes YOU, author of this blog, who, by the way, in your one last week noted that the place the white rappers go shopping was in the BX...come on, everybody knows moe's sneaker colosseum is in queens. • The white rapper show is funny as hell. None of them are good rappers, im sure there are better white rappers out there. None of them muthafuckas got more than 2 verses, and THEY CALL THEMSELVES MCS???? that whiteboy Jus Rhyme said the same verse like 6 times already!!!! The first time it was ok, but by the sixth he needs to shut the fuck up!!!! none of these people will go wood in their own suburban neighborhoods, so why would people from the hood feel they wack ass rhymes???

    >>all yall need to chill on that political talk, cause its pointless.....that white dude with all them degrees talkin bout white people invented equality, (Jason Somturk), you sound like an asshole prick judgin black culture....white people didnt invent shit....them greeks had slaves, the whole feudal system came from Europe, errbody knows that....white people CREATED the world that exists today, with all the disease and turmoil.....gave diseases to the healthy jungle people across the world, took their land and resources, then gave them debts when the people wanted their shit back....I hate when white people think they are soooo smart....white people just benefit from the evils of their forefathers....i dont care if you are even a poor redneck, you are still white....how can you have RACE as the most important topic for 350 years in the the development of a country(USA), and then just think everything is all good now???? some racist slaveowner Willie Lynch said that his "techniques" to break down black people would work for hundreds of years if used properly. and that shit worked, and still works.... black communities at home and abroad are always the worst educated, worst sanitary, worst everything....hip hop music has little to do with the state of black people in the world. What has more to do with it is the things that brought us to that....not what is created from it.....if it WASNT for hip hop, blacks would be off worse, because of all the jobs it has provided. So before you yuppie cracker wanna leave the burbs and comment on shit, why dont you give back some of that money your great great granddaddy stole from somebody....

Everyone who is left is pretty much garbage. John Brown just gets on my nerves, he can't rap and I wish he and his ghetto revival would go straight to hell. If you're the so called King of the Burbs how the hell can you have a ghetto revival? And Jus Rhyme kills me with his one man mission to erase white supremacy. And damn Shamrock I do like him cause he's from the south like me, but thats where it ends. His rhymes are garbage too. The two best were Persia and Sullee.

  • Seriously, the show is a joke. And i'm sure that at the time of filming it, Serch thought it was really real. I can only imagine how he feels now while he sits back at home and watches the show unfold on National TV. EMbarrasing... BUt it is entertainment and we're all here talking about it, so it's doing its job. If you don't like it move on, change the channel.

I'm laughing at these kids like all other tv reality stars they will fade away and won't nobody hear from them again.
