Montell Jordan - "This Is How We Do It" video

Posted on August 17, 2006 11:15 AM

Oh, I'm buzzin because...

montell_jordan-alize.jpg

In 1994/1995, a really tall, awkward young man with a silky voice and demeanor burst onto the r&b/hip-hop scene with "This Is How We Do It" [watch it now] and a light so green I sometimes wonder if he's a Simmons.

Eh, nevermind that notion. Russell hates his family... and good rappers.

I let this tape rock until the tape popped. Literally. This and the Channel Live single at the same time. (My boombox had dual cassette decks with auto reverse.)

I particularly enjoyed watching homie phantom dance. What's phantom dancing, you ask? That's when you keep a stable of at least 10 background dancers so that you may do a step or two while they hoof it like they're working for tips.

When this track came out, I was the cat who kept fuckin up his chances at the booty. I've tripped over my fair share of Filas on my way to the dancefloor in my younger days. One of these days I'll tell y'all about what happened to me at Skate Key.

This is a chill-ass video that takes you to a chill-ass time period. I feel like 94/95 was the shit all around. Though he will always live in the shadow of this jam, Monty put together some nice tracks over the span of his career. God bless a 7-foot nigga who can't shoot a jumpshot for shit.

Ladies, show a doofy nigga some love at the after-hours spot this weekend.

  • Yes, this is the shit I'm talkin about. I loved this video and the song was the bonafide shit back in the D. Man I can't even tell you how many sessions of "Let me Put the Tip In" got ran while this or "Something 4 the Hunnies" was pumpin.

Oh yeah and he kicks a half way decent rap on here, I hope Tyrese was taking notes.

Phantom Dancing...I do belive that's another one the Ron MExico slanguistics column

  • First of all, don't be ignorant.

Second of all, I will give you the reason why I think he is garbage.
To me his one big hit was "this is how we do it". I never liked that song because to me, he was just biting Slick Rick's "Children Story" on most of it. The Hip Hop I loved was not the blend of Hip Hop and R&B it is now and was on this song.

    STOOPID BITCH!!

  • Yo y'all really need to check Monetll's resume, brother got way more than one hit, "Something 4 the Hunnies", "Let's Ride", "Falling", "Tonite"

And Edgar if part of your criteria on what makes a good artist is based one song using one sample...you must hate everyone in rap. LMAO

  • Hahaha. Very true on that point Lowedwn. When I heard it though it wasn't just a sample, it wasn't just a line. He went a bar or two on that one.
I'm sure he had more hits but the only one that really stands out is this song, and I was so pissed when I heard it the first time.

And Ron... What up with some ABC playa, with Dallas Austin's recent troubles, this would be key.

  • This dude was booked in East Orange NJ a couple of years ago at Reazou's Manor on Main st. Only 15 people paid to see him. He had a bucket of like 100 roses and had 93 leftover. Then why was his body guard tellin the 15 people there that he needs more energy from them. Crazy- i was part of the in house security that night and thought i would meet dozens of cuties at the show....DIDNT HAPPEN most of the 15 women there were like 40
