That’s the sound of the beast!
KRS-One’s slightly dated yet timeless testimonial of police corruption and brutality still holds entirely too pertinent. “The Sound of the Police” [watch it now] reminds us of both the historical and present-day responses by the po-po to us wide nose-having chocolate monkeys breathing up all the white man’s air.
That early civil rights movement footage be gettin me all riled up. I be thinking about my nana and shit. You might have seen her in some of the videos. She’s in the classic one with the hose and shit. Nah, she wasn’t on the street gettin sandblasted or nothin. You can see her from the apartment window yelling and tossing shit down… but she wasn’t coming downstairs, though. Fuck that!

I’ve been watching “The Wire” re-up on HBO on-demand. I never caught any the first time around, so I’m getting ready to jump right in when season 4 starts in September. I know not every hood is West Baltimore, but there are definitely some ways that we can thwart some of this police jackassery if we band together as a community.
Seriously… We don’t have to stay disenfranchised. We don’t have to accept abuse.
