Warren G feat. Nate Dogg - "Regulate"

Posted on May 4, 2006 12:00 AM

If you know like I know... you don't wanna step to this.

warren-g-cd.jpg

Yeah, of all the gangsta shit going on in 1994 music on the west coast, Nate Dogg and Warren G defintiely had the most listeners shook! Warren G is most definitely NOT the nigga you should be trying to take lunch money from! He's got a team of black spirits that look strangely like The Untouchables. It would really just be horrible karma for you to fuck with a descendant of SOME nigga from the movie "Posse." The king of the G-Funk pinnacled with "Regulate," [watch it now] a joint you can't front on... even today.

The video is an entirely different story, bitches.

Ahhh, the "Above The Rim" soundtrack! Can't say enough good things about that record. One of the last great hip-hop soundtracks.

To Warren G's credit, it takes a lot of courage to get fucked up, jacked and rescued in your own video. He's used to the demoralization, though. He'll always be Dr. Dre's dejected illegitimate half-brother.

So hold up... Nate Dogg had hoes waiting on the corner while he went to go kill some niggas? Awesome! That's how MY Thursday nights usually go too.

Question of the Day: What melody did you bring, nigga? This is a straight fuckin loop. Stop that, Warren. Hop on that Schwinn and find some studio musicians to work with like your brother.

This was one of many songs Nate Dogg was asked to carry. I was hoping they'd make some more shit like "Ain't No Fun." I also reeeeally wished for a video for that shit. Yes, that's damn near the most misogynistic song I can think of, but that shit is so evil it can't be taken seriously. I think we may have missed out on a gem.

And if you can't watch that day baby, just lay back... and open your mouth.

Look at those fuckin flannels. I love my Cali folk, but don't act like y'all ain't used to dress like negro lumberjacks! Dressed like that... you would think some of them would actually go to work! har har (Kenny Ack wrote that one for me.)

That 213 album FINALLY happened... 10 years later. Too bad it was after all 3 of those niggas were through. Yes, I said it.

Questions? Comments? Requests? Do you smoke like I smoke? Eh... you still don't wanna step to this. ronnie_mexxx@yahoo.com

Myspace me though... I promise. You'll be high like every day!

Unless your ass is a buster...

Damn this video was a disappointment-I said there needed to be video for Big Pimpin. ATR soundtrack was the last good hip hop soundtrack that was better than the movie-lol...remember that Chris Rock show skit?

Question: Who just hops into a random dice game at a corner in the hood with ALL YOUR JEWLERY and NO GUN?

    Warren WTF?!?!?!?

    Favorite Warren line:

    "What's Next, What's Next,
    What's N-X-E-T"

    Gotts to "B-More careful"-lmao

I know when I loved to "party all the time" I use to "go to the club and never come back." (MAD TV SHOUT OUT).

I say all next week is "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING Week."

  • That was the time when the West Coast was running it. Yes they to had watered down lyrics for some artist. It is great to see Hip-hop has taking a even stronger hold on the West then Gangste rap. That was the shock but guess like Rass Kass bring the Awe. That dude needs to drop with Dre, I beleive this will generate serious buzz for the backpackers like Mos Def, Roots and the rest of rap (ARTIST) across the board. It's nothing like the Tribe call Quest vibe. Now that is the heart of Hip Hop>>>guys like that who can speak, teach and rip you one. HOLLAR!

Warren G. looks good in that pic even if he looks like he is remaking Blacula. Muuhahaha...

Warren G. and Nate Dogg filmed parts of the video in an old Italian brick oven. The only thing they will be regulating are the pizzas.

I always thought it was funny that the Eastside Motel sign was flashing over a phone booth. I have heard of tricks being served in the phone booth if there are no rooms left.

How you gonna diss the man who made one of the top 15 greatest hiphop songs/videos ever!!! This song was a classic when it dropped and still is a classic today, too bad people don't take notes and try and emulate the sucess Death Row had going for itself in the early to mid 90's. Death Row had the rap game in the smash, I know this hurts alot of East Coast playboy's feelings but, the # of records sold don't lie, the whole world was feeling DRE/Snoop/DPGC/213. Don't front!!

  • I think Warren G. 's portrayal of getin' jacked looks quite quaint compared to the shit going on today. And why does Nate Dogg sing in the SAME DAMN PITCH EVERY FUCKIN' song? With hot ass flannel shirts on in LA weather, no wonder they were so hostile. All they needed was Micheal McDonald on the remix like Eminem and Elton John. Still, it was a cool somng for it's time.

I really miss the G-funk era...

I dont miss every kid in Junior High trying to sing "16 in the clip and one in the hole..." in a tenor voice when they only had soprano vocal chords...

the G-funk remix to regulate is even better than this even though the way Warren used that Bob James sample is sick... you know what I'm talking about Ron!!!

You already know about me and flannel shirts.

Poor Nate Dogg he was reduced to singing on Houston's (you guys remember that dude who dug out his eye) track.

You know it woulda been X-Rated if there was one. Good lookin on the video Mexico, like you work.

  • If u smoke like i smoke , then your high like every day...........Yes, "regulate" is a hip hop classic. I like it even more now than i did back then. I kind of hated dre for releasing Chronic, (though i loved it) because i saw so many kids comin 2 hiphop that had no business there. I moved to a nice all american town just before that album dropped. I thought it was pretty cool to be around kids who had hobbies and lacked any reason to walk around and be violent. It was a nice change 4 me. The Chronic dropped then I saw these goodie goodies turn to gangstas. It was funny and depressing. My new friends were quickly dressin more like me but also they decided to make themselves true ganstaz buy makin up there own lil crip sets and blood sets. I hated that. I soon returned to my hood about a year and a half later. I earned my hood pass. After the Chronic, kids were makin ther own at kinkos. Now that im older i know how the whole industry works. After the Chronic dropped hip hop was no longer MINE, i shared it with Sprite. Much love to Dr DRE and warren G I will always appreciate your contributions. Yes Yes Yall

  • Once again, you can tell when the East Coast is in the house, because there's hating on anybody who aint from New York. "Regulate" is one of the best songs ever period. From the best era of hip-hop period. The bottom line is that the West Coast had better songwriters. Dr. Dre,Ice Cube, Warren G., Snoop(before he sucked donkey dick), and all those Death Row guys had better songs. New York's got the crazy lyricists, but besides Public Enemy, the songs weren't as good. Great rappers, ok songs. It wasn't until Biggie, who admittedly wanted to write an East Coast version of Amerikkkaz Most Wanted and The Chronic, did New York MC's recognize that songs were more important than just showing off your skills.

Hey yo, how about a blog on one of my favorite East Coast songs from this era. "The Reminisce Over You" by Pete Rock & CL Smooth

  • Is it just me or is everybody on this stupid, pointless, meaningless website obsessed with New York? Damn. It seems like you can't be from the east coast without automatically being labeled a New Yorker. That's what happens when fools fail geography. They can't find one state that isn't close to them. You guys have this obsession with New Yorkers. It's really pathetic. I don't care about this topic or this stupid song. Like most rap music, it is a stereotypical portrayal of how urban Blacks lived. Don't you fools ever want to become halfway intelligent. Turn off your radios and pick up books. Turn off the computers and that DEVIL they call BET. Regulate was a stupid song and an embarrassment to Black people.

  • Only clowns focused on changing how history went-- and dis joints in retrospect, far after the fact. Warren G's album was double platinum in 95', more like quadruple platinum now when you consider how bigger hip hop is now. "Regulate" is not meant to be a 'lyricist' song, its just a summertime joint that you cruise too. Uptight haters forget how the West coast was the soundtrack of the hood, before the South went national (Scarface, Outkast, etc.), and the East coast went from Leaders of the New School and De La Soul to gangsta Biggie and Nas. Ask Bad Boy who they were in competition with. Remember Jay-Z with Original Flavor or Big Daddy Kane on "Show and Prove"?? None of that sold until he told his hood tales (Jigga couldn't even get signed...R.O.C. was a necessity...). L.A. had the gangsters and the racial tension that became the L.A. riots and they had to talk about what really was going on. So stop hating on the West. Flannels may be wack now, but that imaginary army fatigue is wack now too...

Too bad Above the Rim sucked. The only parts that were good was when Nutso flew off the roof and Marlon Wayans capped Tupac.
