Remember these cats?

Long before going cotton candy pop in hip-hop had become the pandemic that it is today, EPMD had 4 eyes on the trend. 1992's "Crossover" [watch it now] was like MC conditioner. I never thought these boys to be amateur. Man, maybe if our artists dished out more media chin-checks like this one, we wouldn't have completely lost the music of the movement.
Alright. I'm comin' down from the soapbox. Let's go get em!
Concerning the wraparound premise of this video... Can anyone say "Dre Day?" Damn, somebody drew inspiration from the Def Jam boys, huh? Slap Jerry Heller in that seat and A.J. "Eazel/Eazy-E" Johnson in the other, and we've got a good, old-fashioned, passionate ass-whoopin'. Right, Buttnaked Tim Dawg? Somebody buy Tim Dawg a 40 for his birthday.
EPMD... Everything Kid 'N Play should have been. Maybe if they'd met each other halfway, we'd have had an early G-Unit. Strangely enough, Mobb Deep wasn't too far behind despite the fact that they were like 15 when this shit came out.

Parrish Smith looks like the Mr. Hard Rock nigga on your block who cracked a 40 bottle over the dopeman's head. Erick Sermon looks like Ms. New Smoker who got caught off guard by how excellent the base was and tried to give the dopeman head.
Actually... they look kinda like a cocolo Bert & Ernie. Oh, don't get mad. You know those niggas are Puerto Rican... and gay lovers.
This will always bel one of my favorite songs, but I got a question for PMD. "From the U.S. to the white cliffs of Dover./" Isn't Dover in Delaware? Isn't Dover the capital city of said state? Isn't said state one of the United States? Isn't U.S. short for United States? Slow down in the Jag' you lawwsssst me!
Gotta love the cameos! Redman, K-Solo, Das EFX... Kid Capri lookin like he was 40 back then. Hit Squad... That shit could have been something special. Had they kept shit tight and still made that Keith Murray pick up, things could be very different for all of them.
How can you front on some shit where niggas is poppin and breakin in one of the many abandoned lots of that era? This is back when hoods in NY used to look like Afghanistan... bombed out and depleted. Developers have left no project brick unturned.
This shit is deliciously grimy. This video represents what the city used to feel like. It represents what hip-hop used to feel like. There's a reason why I can't bring myself to watch The Negro Channel and MTV anymore. Yeah, shit was greasy then, but the struggle was beautiful. This was one of the first (and best) uses of that rotating camera shot too. I'd have to say that shit was most innovatively executed in Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz' "Deja Vu (Uptown, Baby!)"
I know... I know... I'm just a hatin' ass Mexican bitch. Niggas gettin money! That's all that matters, right... even moreso than personal dignity? Everybody from the hood has a price. Apparently that cost is well-publicized and played 700 times a day on Top 100 radio.
Send in the next rapper please!
Questions? Comments? Requests? I've never been one to give a fuck about quantity in this regard, but there's a very scientifiic reason why Yung Joc can garner hundreds of comments in a matter of hours and Gnarls Barkley would be pressed to even top out at 50. ronnie_mexxx@yahoo.com
Mypsace Ron Mexico. We can talk about it if you want.
Comments
"who am I?
E- The Green Eyed Bandit,
Control my career so I'ma never get stranded"
Boy that was when music was music
The Hit Squad was raw....Das, EPMD, Keith (don't sniff my whole bag, nigga) Murray and Redman. Too bad P had to get greedy on us.
Ron, I can explain the reason for the disparity of comments between Young Joc and Ceelo. Ceelo's video requires the viewer to think and use their mind, while Young Juc is teaching motorcycle lessons. Why think when you can ride out?
Classic shit. Before the gay rumors and kidnappin' charges. These cats kept Sleepin' Bag records afloat just long enough to gag the rest of thier artist. Where do you think Parrish learned that shit from. They shoulda never broke up. The coulda been on some Outcast shit. Get together to make music and then go there own separate ways after the studio time. E. Sermon does not get the props he deserves for his prdution skills. He's top ten, IMO. Up next: "Rampage" featuing D. J. Scratch. (I hope)
Ron, u already know. How appropriate is Crossover?
I remeber a couple of cats were exprimenting with that swinging camera-ahhh the '90s.
The only thing missing was the Black college hoodies-wait, that was The Headbanger-you got your bat, nigga I got my bat-ACTION!
What u know about Tim Dawg..."Fuck Compton" that nigga sealed his deal like Mitch Green on that one.
Thanks for the Kid N Play look too. It's about time I break out the House Party tape (yes niggas tape) and get it in to Aint My Type of Hype for the millionth time.
Meet me at the House--it's goin dowwwwnnnnn...lol
RON,
THE WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER PMD WAS REFERRING TO ARE IN KENT, ENGLAND. DOVER, DELAWARE AIN'T GOT NO DAMN CLIFFS, LET ALONE WHITE ONES.
MR. D, 1ST PD GEOGRAPHY
One of the top 5 illest groups of all time..hands down.
^ Yeah Senor Mexxx, I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with Mr. (T)D above, although I'd put Das Efx's last record's generated royalties on white dudes named Cliff running rampant through the 1st state. In fact, there are probably more white dudes named Cliff than royalty dollars generated by Das' last record. Poor, confused, speech impedimented fellas.
Moving on, it's some shit you picked this, I was about to fire a Headbanger request at you, but this gem more than sufficed.
Not only did Dre anem learn video making techniques from Mic Doc and his lil buddy "haaaaaaayy, it's Eriiiiick Serrrrrmon", but E-double was freaking those funk loops long before Dre (via Daz) 'revolutionized' and 'invented' G-Funk. Hip hop's ambiguously gay duo in their earliest stages....allegedly of course...
Hit Squad really could have been a formidable force, add Keith Murray, give Top Quality some real promotion (I dare anyone to front on 'Magnum Opus'), keep K-Solo out of jail, let Red be Red, give Das Efx a thesaurus and they would be legendary to more than just the few folks that DIDN'T comment in the Young Joc blog.
We gettin old.
I still wanna know who the fuck killed Jane....
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Didn't Jane wind up havin' a johnson?
top 5...hmmmmmmmm? they are legends...I have evreything up until their last three albums, but they might have to petition for top 5. bdp? atcq? x-clan? pe? roots? outkast? top 5 duos....yeah..probably!
oh yeah...Ron..this was definitely an appropriate song/video for this blog....good one breh!
Jayne was Parish Smith.
the fuc ever did happen to jane??...somebody get ya boi in the game
Now now, don't rely on Reggie Noble to give an accurate acounting of what happened to Jane....you know he be smoking that shit sometimes....gotta trust E-Double, I think him and Jane still go to the mall together to try on shoes and shit. For all I know it was her window his fat ass tried to pull a Superman out of...
Jokes aside, E-dub got BEATS.
What da hell is goin on with E-The Green eyed bandit? Last I heard he jumped out of a window trying to get away from some cat that was gonna mash him up. Speaking of Mash-up, Royal Peacock Tonite!!! Gal Farm, nuff said.
What in the fuck happened?
"Bombed out and depleted" - You jacked that shit of Dave Chappelle - Playa Haters Ball
Yo please believe E Sermon sent them peoples up in Parrish Smith's crib, the came with duck tape and hammers but wasn't no home improvement!! Talk about unfair contracts But you could see it coming cuz PMD said: "I drive a corvette" and Eric said "I drive a samurai suzuki" ....that ain't 50 /50
Dunno, initially they were saying it was a suicide attempt BUT word got back from the streets that E-Double was being chased by some disgruntled rapper and to avoid the whuppout, he jumped through a window. It was probrably the other little kid from Illegal. LOL. Speaking of Atl has been I saw Lil (I can't stay outta rehab) Zane last week lookin more and more like Keith (don't sniff my whole bag, nigga) Murray last week. I knew the chick he was with and she said they were on the way to the studio(???) to continue working on his new project.(????) Needless to say, It was hard maintaining my composure BUT I wished that cat "good luck" anyway. He's gonna need it.
Jumpin out the window, yeah I remember that. He released a statement shortly after saying that wasnt what happened and that he is not suicidal, having no desire to harm himself or anyone else (that might be almost word for word right there, LOL)...but he didnt say what really did happen either and other than the rumors of a breakup with his girl being the cause of it, I never heard anything else about it.
"I'ma locksmith, with the key to fame
Never high on myself, always stay the same"
I heard the beef between E&P got REALLY ugly. I didn't know E was resortin to duct tape. Too much.
What was the beef about anyway, some ole "Move back, Im the head cheerleader" type shit?
Speaking of MIA. Where is Steezo? The former dancer from EPMD? Remember he had his single "It's my Turn"? What ever happened to him? Did he finally get his turn? Is he making a "comeback"? SOHH needs to start a M.I.A. blog...
"lets get up lets get down"
i love this video ron.basicly loved all there videos
"you gots to chill"
"so what you saying" with fendi dancing in the background.and so on.
classics.
Who knows what the beef was. It had to be some serious shit though for E-Dubb to jump through a closed window. I'm thinking it was Nona Gaye bitchin about her royalties from her dad's sample. E's stutterin ass probrably didn't want to pay it off. And took the leap
Mr. D, the geography teacher...
thank you. i should have investigated that a little further, but, that's why we ax questions, nah mean.
Mecca,
the M.I.A. blog would have to include Nine.
Hashim knows who I'm talkin about.
Make or Take!
Shit, I was about to put Smooth Da Hustler on there too, but I heard a song from them last year that was CRAZY!
Somebody bring back the Black College hoodies...
Remember when every video that was hard had the following
A posse
Hoodies
Baseball Bats (aluminum preferably)
Junkyard-abandoned building scene
Burning car (or already burnt out)
Garbage can fire
Corner bodega or store
Niggas lifting weights (West Coast)
EPMD used to be the shit. I remember when Crossover first came out. Every nigga I knew was bumpin that shit.
I wish some of these rappers today could go and listen to this song today. But unfortunately, it will go over their head.
And a mean ass lookin dog.
Oh...
Cee lo game
Dominoes (west coast video)
Nine needs to keep his ass MIA, the fuck you gonna follow up Nine Livez (CLASSIC) with Cloud 9. That's called earning your obscurity....
Mic Geronimo can tell you a thing or two about that, fuckin Vendetta, I'm still waiting on my refund Mic G...
Ron, do me a favor and check your local homeless shelters for Ill and/or Al Skratch when you get a chance? Where the hell are my homiez....
Hey Meccadon....just curious...what is the Royal Peacock? is that like a thurs jumpoff ya'll have up there? like a reggae joint???
Shit. Nine, Seven, Tim Dawg, Dinco D, Charlie Brown, the spanish cat from Mantronix, M.C Ren, Dru Down(that cat can stay MIA), T-La Roc, Just Ice...man I could go on forever. I can't forget Scholly D....If Sean Carter doesing put Redman out soon, He'll end up on this list
Ron, do me a favor and check your local homeless shelters for Ill and/or Al Skratch when you get a chance? Where the hell are my homiez....

They're creepin through the hood on that bike that didn't work in the video.
Don't tell nobody but that "I'll take her" joint was the shit.
For Streets: Erick drove a Suzuki Samurai, and Parrish drove the Corvette in "Strictly Business" on their first album, Strictly Business. That's because, for whatever reason back then, cats loved Samurais (flipmobiles) and Geo Trackers when they first came out. It ain't Parrish fault if E wanted to buy it! Plus, when they did "Unfinished Business", on "Knick Knack Patty Wack" with K-Solo, they had changed cars:
"I Drive a 'Roc" (PMD's voice
"I Drive a Benz" (Erick's Voice)
"So get out the mustard, crab, cause I'm gonna ketchup.........."
PMD drove the Iroc, and Erick bought a Mercedes, even though on the album cover, they are each sitting on the other person's car.
EPMD is undoubtedly the most underrated duo in all of hip hop. They were around when hip-hop's New Generation took off in the 80s, when Long Island started making a name for themselves:EPMD, Rakim, PE, JVC Force, De La Soul. Every song on their first album was got radio play. The Hit Squad:had they stayed intact, and with Keith Murray, would have been ill. Don't know how long they would have lasted, with Das' elementary cartoon rhyming styles, and K Solo's spelling.
"Crossover" was a crazy, dark video that cats back then was fiending for before it was released, and "Headbanger" was just as ill-that was their peak. Thank goodness for hip hop back then
No need to keep it a secret, that joint is hot. Brian McKnight tolerable? BRILLIANT!
Talk about nostalgia, I feel old as hell right now. Yall take a chick back fa real on some I-aint-heard-that-name-in-YEARS type shit. Ill Al Scratch... I was in love, hahahaha.
And for an earlier response: Buttnaked Tim Dawg and Tim Dog are 2 entirely different people.
Tim Dog, most everyone knows is the "F___ Compton" author, the former Ultramagnetic MC.
Buttnaked Tim Dawg was a record label producer/executive.
WE GET SO LIVE EVIL
LIVE EVIL!!!!
some cats are gone for a reason.
Ini Kamoze...
Some cats had a hot record but still didn't sell.
Real Live
Cru
South Central Cartel
Conscious Daughters
Skee lo
Mecca u crazy-Dru Down was the shit back in the Bay, lol...they showed Original Gangstas on BET the other day (Why?) and Dru was overactin his ass off (Fuck the Bookmans!!!!)-he brought us the Luniz, so I can't never be mad.
"Can't nobody love u...like Dru Down"
MAAAAAAN!!! Y'all took me back with this one, `92? I was 18, about 2 graduate from high school, somebody needs 2 bring back the Black College hoodies, Jodeci rocked `em in their 1st video "Gotta Love" I had a Malcolm X College and a Howard University hoodie. Not 2 mention that Tim Dog "Fuck Compton" was dope, niggas was waitin' 4 somebody 2 get @ N.W.A. aside from Cube, my favorite joint off of that "Pennicillin on Wax" was "My Secret Fantasies" I'm lookin 4 that CD & can't find it 4 shit! can somebody help That Dude out? Kid `n Play was cool too, until they got on Video Soul poppin' junk about 2 Live Crew, I can't front tho, I was doin' the Kick Step dance when they first came out, the first 2 House Party movies R hood classics here in the Chi.
Real Live's "The Turnaround..." was like a prophecy, go back and listen to that shit and hear how many of the samples K-Def flipped have been used (and less creative I may add) since....first one that comes to mind being 'Heart of the City'....
Matter of fact, the one dude from Cru that was laways in jail is probably sticking Larry-O for his welfare check right now....
Yeah The Peacock Is a reggae club located on Auburn and Piedmont in Atlanta Old Fourth Ward. It is the BEST Party in Atl. None of that gold-teeth, shawty bullshit jumpin off in there. Strictly the best beats, Hip-hop and Reggae. Even though it's a reggae club The crowd rocks to snap music, uptop (eastcoast) music and socca. If you are ever in the A, Hit me up, I'll put you down on it
LMAO
Yo, I had every black college Tshirt available, and even farther back, was rockin the leather red, black and green africa medallions around my neck and thought Cross Color was the hottest shit ever, with my two pairs of different color socks and my 54.11's..... sigh.... bringin a tear to my eye fellas, LOL.
Ron Mexico
Your Right.. The way funk flex played Nine, and the what u want joint, i figured that Nine was going to be the first coming of dmx.
The last time i saw that nigga was on New York Undercover
Ron Maxico, you're a dickhead for damn sure. Every 9-year old kid knows, that DOVER is city in England, where La Manche Tunnel starts.
Of course not y'all, cause being ignorant, stupid and lacking knowledge prom like 4th grade is so "real"...
Hate to come across like a thug or a hood, but
Hon you got the goods-like Madelyn Woods...
yeah, fuck Sherry Carter, it was all about Madelyn on Video LP...
People never talk about Erick Sermon's compilations when he and Parish split up
I Got "Tell Em w/ one of the best Keith Murray verses ever" in my ipod now from Double or nothing, and he had some hot shit off that Insomnia compliation.
I'm not saying we need to trot old niggas out and bring back 92-96, but it seemed like cats were hungry and KNEW they had to put out GOOD MUSIC to even get play.
I just think it's too easy for cats now.
good lookin famlee....i am gonna have to stop bullshittin and come back down that way...
good lookin famlee....i am gonna have to stop bullshittin and come back down that way...

That was the Brooklyn Anthem for a strong summer
I was still wearing Polo back then. Naj, whas'up homie? I caught Dru down in some porno movie looking like a grimy Katt Williams. wait, Katt Williams might be a clean Dru Down. I dunno, either way, that clown should never touch a mic again.
Yeah, come on down. BUT I'm gonna warn you, once you visit you WILL WANT TO MOVE HERE. It happens to everybody. To quote my man G-Money from New Jack "...and the bitches! man, I done had my jimmy waxed 'bout 10 times" The girls are off the chain. Let me know
Naj, Rachel (the Trini chick) had them all beat. Three hours alone with that ass......
Hell Treach was in the porn doin all the stunts-LMAO...
I still fucks w/ Naughty up to "The Craziest"
Damn how could I forget Rachel--they were both slammin (I said slammin-lol) at the Negro Channel birthday they both looked like 94--I was feeling like I was still in high school.
What was corny was the fact that BET does everything on real time so west coast niggas only saw Video LP and Video Soul and always missed Rap City-that's why we fucked with Yo! so hard.
"deuces is def,now say it louder deuces is def,im black and im prouder, like malcolm x the master with the flex, you hear the beat chuck chillouts on next.you hear the cut you know whats up,you turn the volume up 107.what,

and zhigge w/ the uptown bounce? (sorry... i'm sentimental... it is the UPTOWN BOUNCE... way better than those semi-gay dances that came later)
yo MEX!! sup with a dance video blog showing the various dances in their seminal videos
ie... the puffy dance in the flava in your ear remix video
for my people
seminal (adj)
- Of, relating to, or having the power to originate; creative.
- Highly influential in an original way; constituting or providing a basis for further development: a seminal idea in the creation of a new theory.
peace out.
backtodagalaxyof..... E Sermon wasn't getting any of the money when they were EPMD, that's why they broke up, even worse PMD was also eating off Das EFX and K Solo and Redman. His quote says I drive a Benz, it doesn't say I own a benz!!! After Erick sent them people up in P came home and found his homies ducted taped, the police investigating the crime caught the dudes who then claimed Erick had sent them...
what about those dudes who did the "you ain't naada from us...." song

cheapskate--lmao
Sporty Thieves-remember, one of them died from the group.
Not for nothing but not only did Diddy do that dance in Flavor in your ear, but every Bad Boy video he was in until Forever.

That shit was a phenomenom.

Best blog I've seen in awhile. It's good to hear people talking about real hip-hop instead of corny beefs. Remember E-double's joint "Hostile". That was one of the hardest tracks back in tha day. Mannnn....don't cha miss when hip hop was HIP HOP?
That E-Sermon solo joint was kinda hot. Damn, I forgot all about that joint. My favorite was the EL NINO, by Def Squad. Classic
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO???
Rumpletilskinz
Da Bush Babees
Original Flavor
Shadez of Lingo
Trends of Culture
The Legion
The Negro Channel needs a "Where are they now show?" aaalready
Remember the Latin Quarter, Roof Top, Union Square days when you heard that classic shit like Kane, G Rap, EPMD,Ultra Magnetic MC'S,BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS, Stetsasonic, M.C. Lyte, P.E.,Super Lova Cee. Going to the spots on the Iron Horse hoping not to get your rope chain taken by the Decepts or Dog, Pig,Drak or the real 50 cents. Those old heads in NYC know what I'm talking about. Boosting Polo from Macy's on 34 street. Taking posse flicks on 42 street before it became disney land. Rocking a whole mouth full of gold.Rocking the Camoes before they became flat tops. Yeah we started that trend. Going uptown to Dapper Dan to get fresh Gucci, Louie Vitton shit. Cutting off the tops of Mercedes and Jettas and putting Gucci and MCM interior in your whip. I miss those days.
Trends of Culture!WOWOWOWOW
The Valley of Skins- classic
thank you Trends of Culture thats the name of the group that did that song"off and on"yo that beat is fucking crazy raekwon killed that beat on the doowop 95 live.thats the type of beat you come around the corner blasting and you might knock some drinks off the table on the 13th floor.
Doowop! You catz are making me feel old as shit. Live 95! Remember Doo Wop had beef with Kid Capri??? I think it was Kid Capri. The First Mixtape Wars were between D.J's (lol). I forgot all about THAT phase of hip-hop. I gotta go bag a 21 year old tonite just to feel good about myself after this blog. I still call mix cd's mixtapes, now that's old school
LOL @ some white guy, ayo ronmexico is a bitch tho', every time he puts up a blog he be hatting like Becky the blond school girl, fuck that nigga kno bout rap game? That Chip & Dale shit was lame lil nigga!
Man I Love old school NY Hip Hop, back when it was REAL, now it is all about living up to Jay-Z and being the Best behind a dead man (biggie) Man K-SOLO look like Redman on WET, that nigga was loco, what happen to him? Man i am from the west coast and when i was young i used to think I would never fuck with an east coast cat them niggas is grimmy, look at Dos FX ONX K-solo Redman Method Man WU-Tang the feel was GUTTER.Now when i think of NY niggas i think of PINK shirts and niggas who are all metrosexual and shit! Hit Squad could have been bigger then G-Unit but Keith Murray went to Jail, Redman got tooo high, and Def Jam can take some of that blame too for not pushing your artist. Where is that REDMAN CD JAY? Fuck Young Jeezy and RIANNA I want that REDMAN!
Ronald,
I think you got yourself a little confused. The white cliffs of Dover are in England son, on the South coast.
EPMD classic shit, did'nt Craig Mack used to be affiliated with them dude's or am I way off base? My personal favourites off of this album has got to be You Gots To Chill and I'm Housin. Good looks on this Ronald.
It's funny that back in 92,goin' platinum was looked down on
Ay Ronald,
Can I make a suggestion for the next Talkin Videos, what about a bit of De La Soul with Redman the Funk Doc - 'Oooh', classic material.
or better yet Mobb Deep - Shook Ones pt.2
Peace ER, Craig Mac and K-Sole had no affiliation whatsoever. They do now BUT not then. I'm off to the Peacock
or even Lost Boyz - Renee, gotta run to go get me some newports too, peace
King sun
Nice n Smooth
Da Youngsta's
Nikki D
Thank you Mex for this shit. I'm so tired of talking about Star and Buck, Paris Hilton and Jada and Fat Joe, and G-Unit. This is when hip-hop was real shit. I'm a Midwest cat, so back then some of us thought the East Coast shit was too grimy and boring, and only fucked with the West Coast and South's shit. Damn, were we wrong. What I would give to see Black Moon, Showbiz and AG, Smif- N-Wessun, and Pete Rock and CL Smooth come back and take D4L and 50 off the fucking radio. Damn, what happened to Blahzay Blahzay? I'll admit they had me screamin' "When the East is in the house, Oh my God. Danger!"
Oh yeah, go out and cop Erick Sermon's Double or Nothing from '95. I hadn't listened to it for like 10 years, but that shit is fire. Best track: "Move On"
I don't know if yall already got to the bottom of it. But, redman said that the girl he was fucking on Muddy Waters and fought on Malpractice was and I quote "the J to the A to the N to the E" and then Parish smith came in on Muddy Waters and was Jane's boyfriend. Oh why the fuck are you wondering what happened to K-Solo, that nigga sucks, that's what happened to him. I know yall heard him on Muddy Waters and Redman made K-Solo sound like a 4 year old freestyling off the top.

This is back when Hip-Hop had REAL talent and niggaz knew how to spit REAL rhymes.....Hip-Hop died a long time ago.....sad times we live in....now we got people like Lil Wayme, D4L, DFB, Field Mob fucken up the game with bullshit......I wish all the old headz return, but no one cares these days....it's about bling and bitches, and murder, death, kill....
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Dass....tru dat!
Damn.
I think Wayne and Field Mob are dope.
Sure, Wayne succumbs to the bullshit, but I've always found dude pretty fierce on the mic.
Field Mob are highly underrated lyricists. Them boys can burn. Shawn J is nutty.
Eh, as usual, to each his own.
...now knick knack paddy whack. give a dog a bone.
I'm too young to remember when this video first came out but I peeped it on an episode of Rap City (that's Canada's bootleg version of Yo MTV Raps!) when I was in 7th grade.
I loved it! EPMD were on of the best duos ever. Plus they brought us Redman, Keith Murray, and Das EFX.
DEFINATELY the best Blog on here hands down. This video insoired mad niggaz to start rapping with their homie. awe the memories... i couldnt wait for them to show this video on Video music box or da Box!! Ralpg mcdaniels where you at??? I miss chunky herring bones and fisherman hats. when niggaz could be fly and not pay 800 for red monkey jeans! Imma rub yo ass in da moon shine... lets take it back to 89'
Real Live's "The Turnaround..." was like a prophecy, go back and listen to that shit and hear how many of the samples K-Def flipped have been used (and less creative I may add) since....first one that comes to mind being 'Heart of the City'....

^^^^^^^^
Yeah I still got that CD..I might listen to that joint tonight.
I co-sign J Fresh, this is the best blog hands down...it's refreshing, especially after the last 26,472 wack ass blogs on this site. This shit taking me back to the days of Yo MTV Raps & Pump it Up w. Dee Barnes. Nine's first album was a classic...I remember when I had my 1st hooptie I used to bang that cassette in the tapedeck.
Remember on "Give the People" Parrish said something like "Lets wisen up quick/If we don't, rap will be run by politics"...and just look at the game now with DJs takin payola and shit like that.

Listen to Strictly Business, twenty years old and sounds like it coulda been released yesterday. EPMD off the hizz. Most sampled hip hop artists of all time. Remember in 1986-7 when they were droppin hooks and flows that could make it today other cats were still "yes yes yallin" and rockin da mic viciously to the beat yall. DEF TOP FIVE all time. i mean they even had an MC Sheriff who was Down by Law.... ha hahaha.
Don't get me wrong...I'm a big Erick fan. Been down with EPMD since "It's My Thing" first was out on single, BEFORE the Strictly Business album dropped. BUT...90% of the beats until Business Never Personal came out, was done by Parrish. Parrish actually has done a lot of beats and has basically got little or no credit. Parrish did ALL those early hot ass beats. AND...yeah...if they didn't split, they would have had a fuckin' rap EMPIRE. Oh well I guess...that's business...never personal.
