Ludacris - "Southern Hospitality" Video

Posted on April 20, 2006 8:37 AM

By show of hands, how many of you out there are older than 16 years? ...Just as I thought.

ludacris-foot.jpg

I realize that when I play joints from when I was 10 years old like Eric B. & Rakim or Geto Boys, y'all niggas look at me like I just put some algebra on the table. (Niggas hate algebra almost as much as they do reading.) So I'll scroll back like 5 years to when you were 10 year-olds. Recognition of Ludacris' long line of excellent videos began for me with this one. "Southern Hospitality" [watch it now] made a fan of me 6 or so years ago.

If you're 16 today, I probably dropped bows and balls on your mother when this track came out.

How could you not appreciate Luda in all of his fro-ness walking upside down through the streets of Atlanta high as shit? I respect where dude is coming from. I haven't tripped that hard since I posted Irreverent's bail. Damn, I almost forgot to go pick the nigga up. Ha, that was a crazy Monday morning.

Luda must have been tripping balls if he thought his team was tight. Thank god for that Field Mob pickup. If he thought he was ready to go to war with I-95, Lil Man Tate and Titty Boy (no need to change his name for comedic value) he must not have been using special effects to shoot those upside down scenes.

I get the feeling of Redman when I watch this video. Everything from the hoodrats, to the Final Destination spoof, to the general sense of fun bring me to think of the Funk Doc. (We gotta get to some of his shit.) Dude got Scarface and Too $hort on the cameo tip actin silly. Even Uncle Red Alert popped his Niagras and came down to shake it up with the Weave Team. That video shoot must have been like heaven for a nigga. It's like dying and waking up in the Kennedy Fried Chicken outside the coke bar.

If Luda keeps it up, he's on his way to a Talkin' Videos Lifetime Acheivement award... and not in a CHG way. He just needs to keep hogging the mic like Kobe. His team ain't goin nowhere, but he's definitely the 81 point scorer.

Questions? Comments Requests? Trying to get upside down tonight? ronnie_mexxx@yahoo.com

Need some spaceship? I know where to get that work. Myspace pimpins. LeBron for MVP.

Oh yeah... and Luda... for Christmuhannukwanzaa can you give us an album that matches the effort you put into videos and cameos? Thaaaayeeeeenks!

  • What a dumb blog, but since I was first I had to post. If you know your readers are 16 why are you telling them it's cool to be high and post bail? As the mother of a 14 year old I want to see you in the street right about now.

  • This shit ain't supposed to be overrun with kids. Obviously the age comment was made with connotation.

Parents like yourself should be watching them instead of letting them post the ignorant shit they do.

You've been around for a while, Bird. You know better than that. Don't act like you don't know what's up here.

I feel bad for the 14 year old who goes to school and faces the other kid with a mama named Bird.

please show the world where I tell kids it's cool to get high and post bail?

I refer to adults making their own decisions.

...and yes... you post bail for your peoples if you can.

Are you black? Chances are you can be thrown in a bing for that. Bail helps.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Not for nothin ODEMIC, but the south is running shit through record sales and radio spins-not through who's the nicest MC. Some of the artists you mentioned were doing their thing before everyone got on the "South is on fire" bandwagon, so it goes with the argument of saying an MC that is nice not because of moving units.

For those great MCs you mentioned there's at least 20-30 pieces of crap that come from the south and still move units. So if we go on lyrics, you can make a case that NY never went anywhere, because there are nice MCs in NY, the Midwest and the West Coast as well. Everyone would like to say that the South is running things but everyone's argument is record sales but a NY guy outsold some of your favorite artists PUT TOGETHER.

To be real, the only album I care about dropping is Detox (which will never drop)...hip hop is ass now, it's hard to get that great feeling about something coming out about ANYONE's album from any region because we only get disappointed. I liked your50 argument (that was for the G unit stans), but that "south is running shit" argument is getting old.

This is coming from a nigga that listens to all regions, so there's no South hate from my end.

ole girl has work 4 female emcees!
I really hope her and Remy work out the kinks and get that collaboration moving.
    Throw Rah Digga in there,

    Shawna is crazy...

If whichever place is moving the most units is the king then I gotta say the Mid West is runnin the game right now. Eminem, D-12, Nelly, Kanye West, Twista, Obie Trice, Chingy. Tehy move units. And they dont move small units either. Out of all them Obie sold the least and that's 1.3 mil. Technically the've sold the most records since the 21st Century. Very few southern artists go platinum or even gold. Yeah you see their videos the most and hear about em the most but they aint really puttin out platinum artists. Their barely puttin out Gold artists.

Please refrain from using words with more than three syllables, that's my territory, and studies have shown that playing with fire often times results in getting burned. And as you are obviously "white and proud", I don't think getting blackened is a good look for you. Go burn a cross, dickhead.

    Ron:
I'm a little offended at the comment you made regarding 16-year-olds, particularly since I dwell on true Hip Hop classics from Hip Hop's golden age. I would hold it against you, but it's really true, this generation has no respect for older, purer Hip Hop. What I hear at school on a daily basis sickens me to my core, people actually believe that the south is the center of Hip Hop. I asked several guys who claim to know their stuff if: A) they knew the significance of Kool Herc to Hip Hop; B) they could tell me what KRS-One stands for (Knowledge Rules Supreme Over nearly everyone, ask me how I came up with Dj Nahlege, if you haven't figured it out already.); and C) they could name all 9 of the original members of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The results, if you could call them that, did not surprise me at all. None of them had ever heard of Kool Herc, half had never heard of KRS-One. As far as the Wu's 9 members, I heard names like Nas, Kurupt, Redman, Eric B. (but not Rakim), Jay-Z, the list goes on, but the only two anyone could accurately recall were Method Man and Ghostface (everyone knows Method Man, but they knew Ghostface only because they saw him on Def Jam Vendetta).

    But, anyway...

    Bird, and co.:
Its good that you recognize that our entertainment venues play a major role in the corruption of our youth, but your words are almost shamefully misplaced. Of the many places that your condemnation could be directed, Ron's Talkin Videos blog is not a particularly high profile target. Does your daughter have any albums of G-Unit, Murder Inc.,or any of the 95% of dirty south "rappers" that are bullshit? If so, then you should gather a bunch of parents like yourself and protest these "artists" by steam-rolling their shit. Hell, declare war on Canada while you're at it. But before you come here with your wrecking ball of righteousness, why don't you take a closer look at yourself as a parent?

I, myself, am only 16-years-old, take that to heart.

This concludes another sermon from everyone's favorite under-age social-reformer. If you disagree with me, then let me know -- I'll send you a quarter so you can call someone who cares.

  • Dj Nahlege says...
  • Well, ER, before I became the preacher of social-awareness I am now, I was refuted to be quite a smart-ass. When I decided to take a shot in the rap game, I wanted to somehow incorporate that into my stage name. However, since Dj Smart is the type of name that would likely get my lunch money stolen, I elected to call myself Dj Knowledge in reference to KRS-One's name (Knowledge Rules Supreme Over nearly everyone), I therefore was insinuating that I ruled supreme over nearly everyone. There are several reasons for my change of spelling: 1) there are plenty of cats out there calling themselves Knowledge, but none of them spelled it like I do; 2)Knowledge was a little too straight-forward, without a whole lot of thought put into it, Nahlege, however has a certain... I don't know, "mystique" to it; and 3) Knowledge just looked too westernized, too... I guess white.
Now, I am not a religious person, period. I feel that religion in general has been taken out of context, and to an extreme. It's this whole deep thing I'm not gonna get into right now. But anyway, if I was forced to choose a religion to go with, I would without hesitation pick Islam. Now before you fire-breathing evangelicals out there jump down my throat, I would like to make it clear that I have studied both Christianity and Islam, and historically Islam is a much purer religion (If you'd like to have a discussion about it, I'd be glad to, but a word of warning: I will use the Catholic Church against you.). Anyway, you're probably wondering what this has to do with my name, but it's pretty simple, Nahlege is just a more non-Christian sounding name. Let's be clear on this, I said NON-Christian, meaning "not Christian", as opposed to ANTI-Christian, which means "against Christians".
    Don't get it twisted.

  • Luda is the shit. One of my favorite artists from the south just cause he different... KING TIP... Flip is Fake... Wayne is mediocre but he tries hard... Juve is hot... Bring back Outcast... Maybe i'm just rambling but damn NY done fell off. Anybody out there remember when JAY & X was the hype, when there was an instant buzz bout a MASE album... when the WU was all U would DO??? The south is running sh!t now but y'all gotta admit, the type of feeling NY n!ggaz brought to rap back in the '90's- aint been felt... Oh, not to forget... G-Unit is making money AND thats all they do. Kudos to 50's business acumen, but if youre a rapper then thats what you should be judged on first... not how much "units" are moved. Put things in Perspective People.
