"Black. White." Final Episode: A Nigga Moment of Clarity

Young Jeezy over there had what I like to call A Nigga Moment… Of Clarity. It’s a shame that it took Brian and Renee until the last day of their 5 week experiment to take their son to see something interesting and educational pertaining to the struggle of his people. Obviously Nick’s Bruno-like imperviousness to the concept of racism could come from a lack of education on the matter.
What better way to complete the undoing of his miseducation than to bring in a brother capable of delivering a UPN intervention speech? I’m glad homie was able to reach young Nicholas, but a plan like that can backfire horribly.
I remember the last time someone tried to sit me down and feed me some hokey shit like that. When I was in high school, one of my mom’s newly-legit, fresh out-of-the-bing buddies from the projects came by to remind me that I’ve “truly been blessed, young brother.” I felt pretty weird about having compliments heaped upon me for doing something as simple as finishing high school on time and applying to college. I resented how low his expectations were of our generation of young men and women until I began to recount all of the kids I’d went to grade school with. Certainly half of the kids I thought of that day are either incarcerated or well on their way. I’m definitely one of the few without any children… and I think I might be the only one to have graduated college.
As fucked up as it was, I’ve begun to concede. Maybe I AM one lucky motherfucker. As fucked up as the odds are, I’ve beaten them to date, and I recognize it’s not always so easy for a brother. Nick’s definitely gotten some jewels that I hope he takes with him for the rest of his days. There’s no telling what some of my peers would give to have had a chance like that.
Bear:
The ending to Black. White. seemed too predictable. Everyone knew Brian and Bruno would find a common ground, Renee and Carmen would go the extra effort to leave on good terms and something really corny at the end would happen like bringing back everyone for a barbecue and thanking them for taking part in this “project.” I’m just glad Carmen didn’t offend anyone with her parting speech this time.
On the real though, I didn’t expect Nick’s family to visit a museum where it showed film about the KKK. I also didn’t expect Nick to be introduced to a recovering gangbanger who is trying to do something positive in his life and I really think that was a good thing for Nick to be exposed too. After all, the kid never really thought about his future and after talking to that guy, I’m sure Nick will try going down a better road than the other guy.
I can kinda relate to that. When I was younger, I got into a lot of trouble and I needed a reality check. Eventually, I got the opportunity to speak to some criminals who messed up their life. I heard their stories and saw where they ended up and believe me, the last thing I ever want to end up is behind bars. I mean, it’s a similar to Nick’s situation, but different.
Overall, this show was decent. Good idea, but poorly executed in my opinion. I think this would have worked better if shot in the South as opposed to California, and it would have been more interesting if the families switched places and kept the makeup on in their new surroundings.

as for the show, I didn't like how Nick's parents were blaming him for not knowing anything about his culture or history. They are his parents and they are responsible for is education. If they would have started educating him about civil rights, slavery, etc....10 years ago they wouldn't have this problem. Parents can't blame their kids for not knowing something when the parent never taught the child in the first place. The parents need to blame themselves for Nick's lack of knowledge of self.

This show started with a bang and ended with a whimper. It was a good idea, but a PBS documentary probably would have been more substantial than this, which was basically a reality show with a good premise. I can't help but think that Bruno was purposely playing the heel (he IS an actor), which kinda ruined the whole thing after awhile. So much of it seemed orchestrated, like all reality TV. That's sad, because it had the potential to be alot more powerful, but just ended up being very forgetful for all the wrong reasons.
I hope these folks grow as a result. Nick is a moron, a suburban wannabe thug. It's amazing that a kid can live in a metropolitan city like ATL, have two relatively successful parents, and still end up a dumb ass. It just goes to show, if you let BET raise your kids, you can't be mad when they turn into Baby Ja Rules. I hope this show has helped his parents refocus on what's really right.
As free as Rose might have appeared, to me, Carmen was probably the same person 20 years ago. I can't say how this bodes for her in the future, but she has the same judgemental/overly emotional spirit as her mom.
Bruno? He's just a moron. Assuming he is doing this to further his career, I just don't see how playing a real/fake racist on a reality show is going to be a boost for anyone.

After watching this finale, I had an empty feeling that felt this show didn't finish its purpose..... And I still do.
Bruno still feels that black people are just angry people who aren't motivated and hang on to what happend in the past, plus thinks there is no such thing as racism (Did anyone show him the footage of homeboy who said his cop friend pulls over innocent blacks and mexicans just because of their race?). Bruno only thinks this way, because he is white. Brian thinks everytime someone avoids him and won't smile or wave back to him on the sidewalk, it's racism. I don't care what race you are, if you smile and wave to me, I'll ignore your ass, I don't know you playa!
Renee and Carmen "seem" like they have learned alot. Renee met that nice white lady who stood up against the racist at the bar. Carmen met Deeanna who taught her alot about black culture. Still I think Carmen is emotional, and Renee holds on to things.
Bruno's letter was a blatent shot at Renee, no matter how you look at it. What Carmen said to the poetry class was wrong. You can't call someone a "creature," then put "black" beside it. Why do (some) white people always have to say things like, "Did you hear that black girl sing?" or "Did you see how many shots that black guy made?" Are you only allowed to just call someone a guy or girl when they're white?
The "bitch" incident was not Carmen's fault, she was just reading words off the paper. If Renee had just said something nicely and quietly right there and told Carmen she didn't like being called a bitch, everything would of ended right there. I don't want to stereotype my own race, but (some) black people hold grudges inside, then pick the right time for revenge. (i.e. When Caine was shot and killed by the guy he beat up in "Menace II Society")
Nick still needs to get his ass in school and his parents need to get there asses parenting. My mom gave me two options, "get your ass out to school, or get your ass out of my house!" If Nick lived under my moms roof, best believe his ass would be in school! I was hoping we would see him on camera saying he would check into a new school.
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Rose. She is very emotional like her mother, but she is much more understanding.

I was very disappointed in the series finale of this show. I can't even remember most of it and it was on just yesterday.
I think Bruno's acting career is over. He is forever type casted and won't work on "Baywatch Hawaii" or "Murder She Wrote" ever again.
Rose looks a lot better in her make-up, am I the only one who noticed that? I liked her final poem since the other ones she wrote were extremely weak. I liked how everyone in the household got it, but Bruno just mentioned her delivery and timing, it is like he didn't even listen.
The Museum trip was a good thing. They should have taken Bruno. Why was Carmen and Bruno so shocked that no one learned anything from them?
I notice the little odd things like when Renee was in the living room with everyone else and sitting on her husband' lap. It seems they are always much closer than Carmen and Bruno. No public display of affection for them. At least they agreed to do the group hug.

It has nothing to do with luck. Did you know the USA has the highest prison population rate in the world?!! All of these countries overrun with corruption and the US has the most people in prison.
