The Boondocks - "Wingman"

First off, my bad for the late post. As some of you may have read on last week's “Flavor of Love” blog, I posted the reason for my recent absence in the comments section. It’s a long story but I am back. BTW, I appreciate those of you who were wondering where my latest post was. Glad to know heads out there are reading.
Anywho, last week Sunday’s episode of “The Boondocks,” titled “Wingman,” proves that the old saying “you can’t go home again” sometimes rings truer than you think. Long story real short, Granddad, Huey and Riley return to their hometown of Chicago to attend the funeral of Granddad’s old Army buddy/rival Mo Jackson (voiced by comedian Mike Epps). While back in the Chi, Huey and Granddad realize that as much as things remain the same (even in death Mo finds a way to burn Granddad), some things do change (Huey’s old friend Cairo has replaced him with the more militant Dewey Obabababa Mamasaymamasamamakusa Yankees).
For me, more than the show’s overall theme, the best part of “Wingman” was the quotables. Here are just a few of my picks…
Mo’s reason why he wants Granddad to give the eulogy at his funeral:
“I want a nice funeral with bitches crying and throwing money and shit all in my casket…”
Dewey questioning Huey authenticity as a revolutionary:
“Where’s your headwrap, your sandals and your capris? What kind of revolutionary are you?”
And of course, Riley critiquing Dewey’s poem at Mo’s funeral:
“Boo… Hey, Erykah Badu! That was real gay… Stop that!”LMAO
Beyond the quotables, the episode raised a valid point. Sometimes, you have to be the bigger man in a situation and handle yours… like Granddad did. And sometimes, you gotta whoop some ass, like Huey and Riley did.
On a side note, I wanted to congratulate Asheru for the free plug Adult Swim gave him during the show. For those of you who don’t know, he’s the brother who crafted the show’s theme song. For more Asheru music, check him out at www.myspace.com/asheru1.
Also, for those of you who haven’t seen Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, I highly recommend it. And keep an eye out for the next beef in music: Jill Scott versus Erykah Badu.

Yes,the episode was good. Everything Riley says has to be a quoteable. He's the best character on the show. But Grandad did get played in the end. After bein the bigger man,all he got was "deez nuts nigga",lol,priceless.
My favortie part of the whole show was when mo and granddad was in the airplanes and he had the forbidden fruit on his plane and he said " i woke up hopin to fight a white man" or something to that extent. that had to have been the best show ever! thus far. last night not so funny.. man it was actually a bit lame. plus with the flavor of love on i was switching back and forth and it didnt look to funny. you cant always be on i guess.
Man... "wingman" was hilarious... I was cracking the F up at "Deez NUTS!"... loved that they had DJ Pooh in this one, and a reference to "Friday" (What Riley egan to say a la Smokey, after Cairo Headbutts Huey)...
riley actually called him "erykah ba-dewey"
i think people missed the very end, where grandad is a sleep, and they pan past the picture of mo and him next to the plane and there on the shelve he has the jar of "nuts" mo left him. guys love to give shit to each other, it's how we say we love u and not be gay lol...but more so it's a bond that Mo held onto but gramps didn't and when he realized it he was sad. Mo was Mo till the end and in the end gramps missed Mo. just my thought.
Block party was excellent.
Music was so good...I'm going to purchase my first ever movie soundtrack.

Yeah, I'm serious. Didn't you peep it. There was some serious granola hating going on there... especially when they performed "You Got Me" with The Roots.

Boondocks is slipping. These episodes are starting to get whack. I don't see anything beating the health inspector, grandad's fight or gangstalicious anytime soon.
Better step their game up before they get shut down.

Yo, I noticed the subtle tension between Jill and Erykah also, but I thought they kinda ironed it out near the end of the song when Jill took the singing and Erykah took the back up/hormony part. Jill straight from North Philly so I don't really think Ms. Badu wants any. But seriously, I think these to women have way too much class entertain the thought of coming to blows. And in my opinion Jill is the better singer/songwriter. Hell, she wrote "You Got Me" but I love Erykah,too. I fell asleep on "The Boondocks".....again.

Last episode was more serious than anything else. I laughed a bit, but this one was most certainly one to think about.
When Wuncler appears in the episode, there's always a LOT more than meets the eye.
