Take that. Rewind it back.
Before he became the man we know and love today, Usher was a talented little Hatian boy with murderous dance moves and above average vocal skills looking for that one hit that would propel him into superstardom. “Nice & Slow” [watch it now] wasn’t quite the record, nor was “My Way” quite the album. Urshurrr would need a couple of bit parts in movies and an “8701” before the Michael Jackson comparisons would officially set in.
Now the nigga is just a nosejob away.
This video definitely set an acting precedent for Ursh. He would carry this thespian tradition into such works as Light It Up, The Faculty and In The Mix. I am holding my breath for his appearance on Inside The Actor’s Studio. They HAVE to reference this video.
This action-adventure thriller has it all, people! There’s drama, love, suspense, kung-fu, demolition, and a younger (barely) pre-Russell Simmons Kimora Lee (v.1.0). That’s right. Usher been tappin your favorite icons’ girlfriends since “Think Of You.” Hence Jiggaman’s reluctance to let him 1,2 Step with B.
What is Usher supposed to be here? Cody Banks: Colored Secret Agent? Why does he have all of that shit in his house... and no gun? Where the fuck did he get C4 from? I guess he wanted to prove he could Jet Li some niggas, huh? Why didn't he Jet Li their asses when they dragged him out of his whip, showed him the LAPD love and yanked his broad? That's Kimora, man! Maybe they were blunted in the Benz. Maybe they thought they were being targeted by the police for being prominent members of the hip-hop community.

This can't be the video the ladies were expecting. Only Japanese businessmen would find this shit sensual. Nothing makes Mr. Takahasi's crispy noodle go crunch like seeing a chick chained up, beaten and forced to do shit. The only thing that could have made this video better for him would have been if Usher gave her some bukkake delights before letting her down.
Back on the subject of being underprepared... Why does Usher bring the motorcycle to such a task? Was he trying to get his head smashed in by a piece of exploded brick? Fuck, maybe it would have improved that egg head. Nigga's shit look like a silly putty container. HARD TOPS, PEOPLE!
Continuing butterfly collars and suit-jackets week, Usher doesn't disappoint. Funny shit... This is like 1997. Even then, a 16 year old wouldn't dare complete that ensemble with a baseball cap. I'll leave it at that. Who directed this video, Babyface?

8407 didn't propel Usher into superstardom. What you young bucks don't understand is that one successful song or album is only a small step toward super stardum. The fact that you were too young to remember the nice and slow video doesn't define his star power. Usher has been making good music for years and that is what made him a superstar. He was already a star when he made Nice and Slow and that is how he got that big budget for the video. He's just an even bigger star now. I don't hate you for your youth though. I was there too a few years ago. Ignorance is truly bliss.

As an educated-very well educated- and intellectual liberal I can understand the concept of Usher's video. Usher is trying to perpetuate the myth that Asian girls are falling for black men. Usher is a cunning young man although I don't agree with his musical content and he broke barriers with this video. Before this video was introduced there weren't many interacial involvments in music videos. I would like to see the scope being broadened even wider by including a lead girl who is south-asian (Indian) or African that would help bridge the gap in the oh so trivial world of Urban music videos

It started at home when his mother/manager started prepping her son for stardom by telling him how magical he was. Then came the diddy's the uptown records hangouts and then success. The guy has not had an ordinary day in well 60% of his life. Hell even the most humble of humble would be cocky if success is all they knew.
The video is corny but his tracks actually carry some artistic design to them. It appeals to a core audience, he's a safe artist. He sings about regular stuff like heartbreak,lust, etc.
Oh yeah i'm all for "Revolution" and "Change" but this self glorification and forced point of views by one person to another is an annoying little trait that our community has developed. Everyone wants to talk but not everyone has something worthy of being said.

This video is a bit dramatic for a song about fucking. I mean, how does the video relate to any of the lyrics? I understand that Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video set the standard for a lot of artists out today; however, the video corresponded to the topic of the song. If you're going to make a video-movie, make sure it relates to the song. Shit!
