Prepare yourselves for what I’m about to say.
The new Black Eyed Peas video is pretty damn dope! What feels like the 9th video from their latest album, “Like That” [watch it now] is a high quality, creative, aesthetically beautiful display that features some welcome familiar voices and faces in Q-Tip, Cee-lo, Talib Kweli & John Legend.
With that said, these niggas is still coons and they still fell off.
Whoever their graphic designer is better have been paid double time. The effects on this video are almost enough to make you forget that they are just coming off the vomitous video trifecta of “My Humps,” “Don’t Lie,” and “Don’t Phunk With My Heart.” *puke sounds* (“Hey Mama” is a terrible track too, but I can watch that shit for Fergie shakin it up and the breaking.)
Q-Tip looks like he has rebounded from his heroin hiatus quite nicely. I guess Prison Song and a Dave Chappelle appearance were what he needed to slowly work his way back up to the level of Tip-dom that would allow him to do this track and video. In one of his best verses since the Tribe days, Tip made me slowly walk back toward him and now I’ll consider listening to his new record.
Gotta love Cee-lo and his smedium pink suit! Nigga is sangin alright, but he’s looking like Niggaly-puff, the Pokemon Pimp. Why the fuck is he holding Mr. Bigglesworth? Every day I wonder more and more if his wife is putting Comet in his “special tea.” Because that shit is what we like to call MTW (more than weed).
Will-I-Am’s verse isn’t amazing or anything, but he’s back to spitting close to what we expected of him in the “Joints & Jams” era. Our eyes thank us that he has left the shiny suit on the shelf and put the track shit on again. You would think these cats, in full breaker gear, would have done a little more in the way of breaking. That’s really the only thing that would have improved this video.
Much like Tip, Kweli came through quite nicely with a guest verse. Maybe we’ll see this nigga getting a little mainstream work now. Maybe he can hustle enough money for his tumor surgery. A big ass lump on the top of the dome is the only excuse for wearing that hat with the pink polo with the sewn-on alligator. With all that said, nice job Talib.
Even the blackanese nigga came hard on this track! I mean, he still trash, but I was impressed by the verse. I respect attempts at quality lyricism. I also respect NOT snapping your fingers in the background and humming the melody of “My Humps” while Will-I-Am raps and Fergie Gwen Stefanis her way through bragging about ass and tit-tays she doesn’t have.
John Legend has a role in this video? I only hear Cee-lo’s voice. I thought he was just playing “random light-skinned nigga with kinda natural hair.” You know you need one of those in a reeeeal hip-hop video. I guess I’d better listen to this track again. Even if he does lend his vocals to this shit, that’s just a grip of cash BEP could have held on to. These niggas all frontin on the joint talking about they don’t smoke weed. Okay then… Save that for the post-production brick of coke. Okay… let me stop. Save that for the PRE-production brick.
Seriously, what’s with all these rappers talking about they don’t smoke herb? Did anyone ask? Now next time I see Pharrell, Q-Tip, Will-I-Am and a host of these other niggas backstage somewhere in a reefer cloud, I’m just cutting those motherfuckers in line. When they get upset or wonder why, I’mma bring these songs up.
Ain’t nothing worse than a fake ass nigga. Fake goodie-two-shoes just as well as fake ass gangstas.

I can't believe I'm saying this but it was a great video. The graphic designer...BANANAS. That's where I need to be. I was waiting and waiting for a break down of some sort and all I got was Fergie shakin it and like a 2 sec move. Everyone did their thing on the track. For guest spots they actually put time into their verses which shows that they give effort whether its their song or not.

Yall have 2 remember ... In the music industry you have 2 make changes ... BEP hasn't changed their content nor has their delivery changed. The music may have got off of the underground rough beats but they are still positive people doing positive Hiphop Music. Eminem couldn't remake My Name Is on every album and BEP can't remake Joints & Jams they have 2 grow just like if LL was still doing music like BAD, he would have been disowned years ago for doing music that sounds the same for years. Q-tip's verse brings a feeling of nostalgia, and cee-lo/john legend add soulful vibes to the song, and i've always been a fan of talib kweli. beautiful animation too
secondly, for those of you sayin this ain't hip hop, there's a lot worse out there *cough* D4L *cough*. if you want something intellectual, there's plenty out there as well. go listen to illogic, atmosphere, and mf doom.

Yes BEP went a little too far on their last album. But if you ask Will.I.Am about it, he said that they thought it was going to be their last record. So they went into the studio and did a bunch of songs not caring about whether these so called 'real niggaz' liked it or not.
