The name is Big Daddy... You know... as in your father!

We try as hard as possible not to half-step on Throwback Thursdays. That's why we're taking you back to the middle of the projects. It's been a while since the party was here... where it should be. Big Daddy Kane and his team of squires that includes Scoob, Sauce Money and Jay-Z join forces with the Wu-Tang Clan (represented by a child and a crackhead) to bring "Show 'N' Prove" [watch above] alive. I wonder how many boxes of condoms and Tommy Hilfiger polos ODB and Shyheim were able to buy with their take.

That's a little ghetto algebra for you bitches.

Background dancers trying to rap and sing has always been a problem. Sure I give Princess Dickslap (Ciara) a hard time, but I’m an equal opportunity hater. Scoob gets it too. In one of the worst guest appearance calls of all time, Big Daddy Kane lets his wack ass hypeman/background dancer lead off on his leadoff single. Needless to say, the nigga misses the mark almost as badly as Trouble T-Roy.

As skinny as Scoob is, his outfit still manages to fit a little tighter than it should for talking all that tough guy shit. He also shouldn’t be popping off when he’s dripping Care Free Curl from that inch and a half of hair of his. All a nigga needs to do is drop a match from the project window and it’s over for him AND the T.J. Maxx outfit.

Wow. Is that shit green? He looks like a gay sanitation worker.

Sauce Money reminds me of a chunky Dame Dash at times. The “Charles Barkley with a crown” T-Shirt he’s wearing has been replaced by a Biggie caricature in the same pose. I’m surprised the shirt isn’t at his knees. That dude can’t be any taller than 5’3”. Further playing on his child-like appearance, they make him pass the mic to Shyheim AKA The Rugged Child.

Do you know why I love Shyheim so much? While I’m bummed he was getting his shit written for him, he was a kid rapper who was allowed to curse! All these Lil Bow Wows, Lil Romeos, even Lil Waynes until recently were censored because they were children. Shyheim has the face of a dirty Cabbage Patch and the mouth of a sailor. Gotta love it.

Why is Big Daddy Kane wearing an eyepatch? Is he biting Slick Rick, or did Naomi Campbell punch him in the eye again? I know Kane was the man at one point, but that’s just one of many fashion fuck-ups even of that era. The big white hat he has on is only acceptable if you can fill it with dreadlocks. All he’s gonna fill that shit with is 8 balls… and maybe some Kennedy Fried Chicken.

Damn, Hova. I didn’t know Koopa Troopers wore baseball jerseys now. Maybe it’s a special suit that can do something about them fireballs Mario be spittin. Congrats to Jay for outshining all the other rappers on the track again. It’s something Shawn Carter would continue to develop an affinity for… that and stabbing niggas.

ODB was delighted to have a video shot in some projects. It’s cool when you can save a little gas by not driving your Benz with no plates to the usual crack spot. He can go right up to apt. 4B, knock twice, say the password, rock up and come outside to drop his verse! I’m also guessing he had to choose between getting that rock and getting his braids finished.

Jokes aside, this is a classic-feel, chillin in the park, just spittin for the party type of record and video. Show this one some love if you don’t know what time it is. If you do know what time it is, come see me. I got a clock for you.

I'm so glad the "grimey voice" style played out with the quickness. Remember when Puff tried that shit on the Super Cat remix with B.I.G.? Sauce is spittin' but he look like the Black Bobby Hill. I halfway expected Hank to jump out and have a coronary. Kane was spittin' but catz was still hatin' 'cause of that shit he pulled with Maddonna and 'cause he TRIED to sing with Patty LaBelle on Arsenio. And Jigga? He spit it but he owes a debt to Zhigge, The Fu Scnickens and maybe even Das Effects for that flow. His lyrics was still sick, though. ODB was ill as usual and I don't like to comment on child rappers so Syhiem gets a pass.

It was aight and had some interesting moments to comment on. Shyheim came in and ripped it and i loved it. i was real young when this video came out, but i liked the fact that a kid was on there with the older people spittin...it inspired to me to rap. shit, i'm only 18, but i started when i was 9, a couple years after this video came out. Jay, even though he is a fraud nigga and chronic rhyme biter, he still ripped his verse. Big Daddy Kane, a legend bringin in the new talent...it was definitely great hip-hop.
