Okay, bitches. You're officially in My Spot: The Blog. Since a new episode of Count Chocula-- I mean Run’s House didn’t air in my location this week, I’d like to take this opportunity to discuss the phenomenon that is Joseph Simmons and his family being filmed in their natural environment for our viewing pleasure. Every nigga I know watches this shit damn near religiously. Why is this show so huge? Is there some kind of Popeye’s code at the bottom corner of the screen I’m missing? (Oh, I’m just playin, stop being such a sensitive bitch!)
In last week’s blog readers took my jokes the wrong way (as expected/usual). Niggas was actin like I was attacking the very fiber of Negro society by making a couple jokes on some characters in an MTV reality show executive produced by Puffy. Everyone seems to have skipped over all of the parts of the blog where I commended Run for being there for his family like a real man is supposed to. With that said: This is NOT the new Cosby Show! And like anyone else that walks this earth and breathes the same air we do, Reb'm Run is far from above reproach, or at least a couple of jokes.
To those who say I shouldn’t be tearing down (*rolls eyes*) “the only black show that doesn’t portray us as pimps, drug addicts or thugs” I say these:
1. I’m not tearing the nigga down. We just talkin’ about it. I’mma talk about it. (repeat 2X a la Bernie Mac)2. It’s not my fault you feel this is the only TV show that positively portrays a black family. If anything we should have a problem with THAT in and of itself.
3. Why the fuck are our expectations so low? Is that all we want? A show that doesn’t portray us as ignorant, self-destructive or criminal? Sheeeit. All that’s cool, but it shouldn’t stop there. It also doesn’t mean I should overlook everything else I find suspect, and neither should you.
See that, y’all made me get up on the soapbox again. You know I hate that shit.
So why DO we love this show so much? Obviously his 2 duncy daughters play a role. There were more responses about putting hot sauce on their asses then there were about the family’s journey together through life broadcast via satellite. What’s up with that, my niggas? His daughters ain’t even all that. Yeah, I said it! If you’re that horny why don’t you go watch some videos or something.
Am I the only one that doesn’t like how Run treats the women in his family? He treats his wife like an Irainan house-slave (with an IQ of 60) and teaches the boys that the girls should be doing the dishes and shit. Are those biblical principles, Rev.?
Don’t get me started on how this nigga conveniently uses and ignores biblical principle as desired. The Bible is law, until it gets into the way of something he wants. Religion is a powerful ass tool. Your family is your flock, especially when you’re Reb’m Run. Every time his wife tell him something he should be doing according to his own doctrine and he shrugs it off like she’d an imbecile, he’s pushing his kids further and further from the god he wants them to embrace.
I’m gonna end with some quick shots for the Reverend. Run, your kids ain’t virgins. They smoke herb (you ain’t around ALL the time). Russ jr. finger-popped that girl he said wasn’t his girlfriend… right under the table in the kindergarten class… because he’s a Simmons and he can dooo dat... and because you did the same shit when you were his age. Jojo is gonna be Eddie Winslow redux. Keep an eye on that nigga! Your wife secretly hates you… and it shouldn’t take that long to beat Russell Simmons’ sickly-looking ass in a game of 1-on-1.
With all that said, I DO think Run’s House is a quality show. I DO appreciate what Run does for his fam. I wish the family all THE BEST!!! THE BEST!!! THE BEST!!! THE BEST!!!

The thing is most of us blacks today don't really have many positive role models to look up to. So of course Rev Run looks great. But at least you look at the show with not only humor, but intelligence as well. I thought I was the only person who noticed how Rev uses the Word only when it suits him? I mean he flip flops around but I guess he must be a Baptist bc the say that the women are under the man according to the Bible. But it is a entertaining show I'll give it that but I gotta ask why the hell does BET have no original programming like this? Besides some unmentionable crap(Ultimate Busta damn I mentioned it!) Is it because the sold out to Viacom and are no longer "Black Owned?" Or maybe bc even though Russell Simmon's goes on the 25th Anniversary thing saying all these great things BET has done for the black community, but when it comes to getting your brother's show on, they both sat down(Tha Rev & Tha Russ)and said,"Well we could go to BET get no money and then wait to get cancelled, or we can try MTV bc they are getting Diddy to executive produce!! And we both saw what he did for those Making the Band shows!! He made them a franchise!! And they are gonna promote us months before premiering!! Fuck BET nigga!!"

That show stinks like week old shit. It is a given that Run is a good father as seen.....or in so many words, but that doesn't make the show good. ALLLLLL those kids are dunce as fuck. You would think with all of that money, they would have a little more sense in them with better education, but they ALL seem like they belong in remedial class. As far as naivety, they have Uncle Russell who is very savvy, but somewhere along their journey these kids wondered off the path of intelligence and never found their way back. DUMB as fuck. As far as plots to the episode, I think a little weak. I watched the show 3 times. The first was out of curiosity and I ended up being highly disappointed. I decided to watch it a couple more times because I am susceptible to jumping to early conclusions with TV shows, but I definitely jumped to the right one with this show. The show is crap, and as far as a good look for black people....hmm, I don't see it. What, just because a man raises his kids in a positive manner and doesn't cheat or beat his wife the show is supposed to be a godsend to black people? Get off it. Like homeboy said, be mad that more positive shows aren't on, but to praise this bullshit, please. Run seems like a good man over all, but this show needs to be canceled.

Fact is, for how well off that family is, theyre pretty ****ing stupid, and you know damn well those kids are gonna be robbing liqour stores for money once daddys money dries out. Cause like most black kids these days, theyd rather use whatever money they have to show off, rather then maybe go to a good college or something and have your money MAKE you money. Look face it, the reason blacks in this country have all these bad stereotypes attached, and theyre so touchy over any critiscism (cause critiscism is automatically racism right? Of course it wouldnt help to see your flaws, then work on improving yourself through them, rather then ignoring them completly and re-enforcing the stereotype time and time again) is because they cant figure out how to use there money right, your not stuck in the hood from "racism" or "oppression",naw, your stuck in the hood cause you decided to **** around in school and never learn **** about how the world works. Not only that, but the majority of rappers that the kids look up to are teachin **** the wrong stuff the wrong way, when ur only role models are constantly showing off there material possessions while hinting at drug dealing as the path to it, what do you expect? I know id expect blacks to be a majority in prisons, dont blame the white man on that, blame certain parts of your own culture. Anyway, the rants over, and just incase anyones catching feelings from this, realize that theres nothing inferior about blacks, its the culture and values that you guys grow up with thats messin you up. I know mexicans who support family's of 4 working there asses off for less then minimum wage. I know two men personally who came to this country not knowing a word of English and became millionares from being dirt poor. Hell I came from a city that would make any New York slum look like a ****ing resort. But for some reason, in my home city, there murder/crime rate isnt nearly as bad as even a nice city here in America, and the people living there arent complaining about not having ****. Keep in mind theres no welfare or Section 8 housing down there either, every single person has to work somehow, theres no 8 dollar a month apartments.

Its a popular SHOW (A SHOW) its sad that in 2005 it just can't be seen as simply Entertaiment. I completely agree with you and I was looking for a place to give opinion about the show. If we constantly want to praise this man than fine. it's all about money in the entertainment world. And MTV will be the first to rake in on it. Those children are privilged and by watching the show they become more untainable.One got a internship by simply approaching Kimora, people attend an expensive school for years and their resume is not even reviewed.To me this show only points out the rich stay richer.
