Continuing in our commitment to provide high-quality shit on Throwback Thursday, here's another head-slapper for you. Talkin' Videos is about 6 months old. Throwback Thursday has been a part of this since week one... and we haven't watched this video yet. Talk about a classic and an oversight, Native Tonguers Black Sheep (behind the vocal stylings of Dres) really fucked shit up with "Flavor of the Month" and "The Choice Is Yours" [watch it now]. The latter made a pretty damn good video too. I loved the crumpling effect... and you will too!

Remember when the nigga with the Gumby thought he was cool. Remember when Bobby Brown was the shit? I know I wanted a hi-top... But I never wanted a fuckin Gumby, or no stairs. I was amazed at the dudes who could pull that off... as soon as I stopped laughing.

Remember when crack WASN’T cool? Man, I miss those days. These rappers be talking like crack is the best thing that ever happened to a nigga. Crack done uplifted the black community! WE GETTIN MONEY, NIGGGAAAAAAAA! You would think these rappin ass niggas are Fortune 500 on the crack charts.

I, for one, couldn't sell no crack. That shit hit too close to home. My aunts and uncles would try to buy from me on a family discount. I'd have to tell them no and shit. It's not easy to reason with crackheads.

After some of the videos I’ve had to watch this week them crack pipes they’re crumpling up actually don’t look so bad. I just watched Pretty Ricky, Pitbull and Pimp Squad (that's aliteration, holmes!). I think the only entertainment I could have gotten from them would have been a rock I bought.

Don’t Dres’ appearance and motions remind you of Mos Def?

Dres is one of the great underappreciated lyricists of all time. Thank god De La Soul still takes him on tour with them. I’d hate to believe he was cracked out and alone. He looked rough last time I saw him, but he delivered this song like it was 1992.

Look at murderin' ass Chi-Ali in the video. Who knew the Funky Roadrunner would turn out to be a stone cold killer. That’s why I’m goin easy on the Lil' Bow Wow jokes. 50 could turn out to be Gangstalicious. Bow Weezy might clap someone. Life’s ill like that sometimes.

Though it's not entirely relevant I'd like to take this time and my platform to say Fuck Pataki. Also, he ain't even in office no more but FUCK GIULIANI!

  • Yo Ronnie Mex! That video was my shit!! The whole party vibe, the cheap yet EFFECTIVE visual effects, and that dope bass line sample made for a great video. The video was hot because the song was hot WITHOUT the video. Now you hear about cats visualizing videos while writing the songs. Dres was a VERY under rated Lyricist because most of Native Tongue were dope Lyricists. Strobe Light Honeys was tight too.

  • I lived in NY till I was 13. After Harlem nites, everybody on the block had the gumby tryin to look like Eddie Murphy. That non-fiction album is a classic, throwback thurs always gets me reminiscing. And fuck selling crack, the penalities are too hard. The system wants to lock niggas away for a long time.   • I'ma keep it gangsta. I had a Gumby by default. My cousin was a barber and I was his best advertisement. He would cut Nike signs, peace signs, pineapple designs, double parts and the like into my head. Then we started with the dyes and perms. I had a S-curl with cherry auburn going to auburn to strawberry blond (no homo, I always wanted to write that) in my box haircut. I went to pick it out and a combful of hair came out. Eff it, my cousin cut it into a "EST"/(Philly in da house)/Bobby Brown/ Gumby cut. And it was Fly!! Man, I'm so old school.....
