The Boondocks- "Episode 4" The Best One Yet?

Posted on November 28, 2005 12:54 PM

Aiight…. So, I missed last night’s episode of “The Boondocks” but it wasn’t for me not trying. A big “fuck you” to DirecTV for that. You would think in an age of Xbox 360s ($400 damn dollars?!?!? Anyone remember Super Nintendo?) and iPod Videos, you could get satellite TV without aiming the damn satellite dish directly into the sky.

I bet if I was running from “The Man” the feds could find me with those same satellites. Speaking of which, I often have a sneaking suspicion that the TiVo receivers are often recording our favorite TV shows and us… But I digress.

Since I didn’t see the episode (which from what I hear from my esteemed colleagues here was “the best yet”), I would like to hear your thoughts. I am always dropping the witticisms on you and yours, now it’s your turn. Tell me what you thought was so good, bad or ugly about last night’s episode.

I did hear that the word “nigga” was used an unimaginable number of times in the episode. You know what that means? More debates about the use of the infamous word. “Nigga, Nigga, Nigga! Sometimes, I just like to say it to keep my teeth white!” Shout out to Paul Mooney for that classic.

Lastly, I am sure many of y’all saw all the hype and press the show scored prior to its debut, but since its premiere there hasn’t been much made about what is clearly one of the most honest shows on television, if not the smartest. Am I wrong? Has anyone read anything in the press about response to the show? Uppity blacks like me want to know.

  • The Boondocks is quite boring, if you ask me. It doesn't keep my attention like other Adult Swim shows (eg. Family Guy)

Its BASIC, cookie-cutter political comedy coming from another angry black man.

In fact, due to this show, on applications that ask for my ethnicity, I'm going to start checking "other". I don't want to be grouped in with blacks who think like Aaron Mcgruder.

  • I disagree. Yes last night's show was a little sub-par compared to the previous episodes, it was still funny. It may not be able to stay as current as the comic strip, but it can still address classic political issues in an outrageous way.

  • You didn't miss anything.

This episode was not as funny as the others. I think i counted the word "nigga" used like 20 times in the first 4 minutes. You know that most of the ppl that watch it are white kids, ages 10 on up, who aint hip hop. So they gonna start sayin it like there aint no problem wit it.

I can...excuse a white dude for sayin it if he's hip hop, but if he aint...im a beat his ass!!!

Anyway...i hope episode 5 is funnier. I hope Jessie Jackson and the rainbow coalition don't come down on Aaron McGruder and Cartoon Network like the wrath of GOD.

  • Last nite show was boring. After watching it for the first time last week which was better than last nites episode I said I would not watch it again, but I was up late last nite and saw it anyway. It really displeased me cause it really did'nt have no meaning to it. To me its like the creator of this cartoon said I will make a cartoon that uses a lot of cursing and ignorant situations that goes on in the black race or the ghetto side that I think goes on in the ghetto, when the creator is not from the ghetto or the streets but wants to be and gives his fake depiction of these situations. This cartoon sucks to me its a waste of airtime.

  • I think Aaron Mcgruder is a very intelligent blackman & I think the show is very smart. It shines a light on things truly unique to the black culture, things that we as black people need to take a closer look at. Episode 4 was real to me cause I've found myself in "Nigga Moments" and wondered how da hell I got there. I think Aaron is just the voice of the average blackman who loves being black but sometimes questions the ways & actions of his people. I think the show gives us an opportunity to really examine some of those ways and actions in a humerous way.

  • I finally caught this show for the first time last night. And I must say I wasnt impressed. I guess the previous episodes were funnier, but I missed those so all I have to go on is this.

I really like the concept of the show and the messages that it tries to get across, but I guess I'm still not used to a cartoon saying nigga every 2 seconds. It seems to me that the creator of the show kinda over did it with the N word. I dunno how the previous episodes were, but I think the N word was used just a tad more than it was called for. It just seemed as if he was doing it on purpose for shock value or something.

But overall, it really wasn't that funny to me. But then again, I think its supposed to be a more of a thought provoking show rather than a comedy. I will defenitly try to catch it next week. But based on this episode, I really dont see what the hype was all about. I wish I could see the previous episodes to see what everyone else was talking about. Do they show re-runs?

  • Again, folx are taking this shit entirely too seriously. Hell, I use the N word regulary in daily conversation with my people. I thought the show was funny as hell. The way the blind dude kept eggin Granddad on with that word and stepped on his brand new White Air Force Ones was hilarious. It showed how each one of us can get caught up in a "Nigga Moment" and forget who the hell we are. Granddad beat the hell outta blind dude for God's sake. I've loved this comic for years, and I'm so glad its been brought to life on the small screen

  • I thought the episode was aiight. There were some funny moments like why N*&&s riot whenever a chair it thrown. But the funniest line by far was "Granddad got "Hit Me!" written on his forehead in braille!!!" That blind dude popped alot a shit, but the episode just wasn't as funny as the first three. Uncle Rucker is always hilarious with self-hatin' ass. I hope that was just a "Chapelle" moment where they had a weak show 'cause I gotta get up a 5:00 in the morning.

  • I WATCHED EPISODE FOUR AND I MUST SAY THAT NOW THAT BOONDOCKS IS A CARTOON IT HAS TO BE THE MOST IMPRESSIVE IN TERMS OF ARTISTIC STYLE. MOST OTHER BLACK CARTOONS LACK IN THAT DEPARTMENT. AS FAR AS SUBSTANCE GOES I ENJOY SOUTHPARK AND FAMILY GUY A LOT MORE THAN THIS SHOW. BUT ITS NOT A HORRIBLE SHOW OR ANYTHING JUST NOT ON THEIR LEVEL. LETS STOP CLOSING OUR MINDS TO THE REST OF THE WORLD AND BEING "BLACK" ITS HOLDING US BACK...TO BE HONEST THERE ARE MORE COMICAL INSTANCES ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE IN FAMILY GUY THAN IN THIS SHOW. THE YOUNGEST BOY HAS THE LEAD IN THE FUNNY DEPARTMENT THOUGH. HE HOLDS IT DOWN. BUT IN REAL LIFE GRANDDAD WOULDVE KILLED HIM BUY NOW FOR THE WAY HES BEEN TALKIN. BUT WHEN HE WAS MAKING THOSE JOKES ABOUT HIM GETTING BEAT UP I WAS ABOUT TO DIE IN MY ROOM LAUGHING. BUT THESE KIDS ON THIS SHOW ARE SMART AS HELL...I DIDNT KNOW WHAT BRAILLE MEANT WHEN I WAS THAT AGE....LOL

Who IS fucking with Seth McFarlane? The man knows how to make a funny ass cartoon. He's a genius.

Of course the translation from comic strip to animated series is going to be difficult. Unfortunately now McGruder has to be compared to sitcoms that are apples and oranges in comparison to his.

You can't compare Mike Vick to Mike Jordan. They do different things. One gives people herpes, the other ganbles away his cake.

  • To be honest, for the people that disagree, you are entitled to your opinion, but for the ones that truly hate it because it talks about black people, here is my response....

The Boondocks shows a reflection of how the igronant african american flows in life. Niggas do act up, Niggas will kill each other for stupid shit. But this episode should had taught you something, that all that gangsta, gangsta, tough guy, I'z gotza keeps it real shit is not necessary. The Boondocks will show you something offensive and will upset the black community, but it also shows the morals and the understanding of if we do not change as people, this is how we will act like. The characters and scenes reflect what most of the black community will remain if they do not change their behavior.

If black people hate the show, maybe they were looking at their reflection on national television and did not like what was displayed, I'm not saying like the show, but understand these scenes also has a reality moral to it as Huey in the end always gives. open your minds and your spirit.

  • another coined catch phrase for us folks, I guess it's just a "nigga moment" just like when a girl got a "buttahead" damn. Hey, I thought the show was pretty cool, I don't see where the comedy is supposed to be because it's supposed to be more satire. I think using the word "nigga" every two seconds might be too much, like I don't think I've seen black folks use it that much, not looking like the ones in the show, in white suburbia. I mean, I know they came from southside Chicago, but damn, I think only Project cats use those words because of a lack of vocabulary, but's my generalization so...... to tell you the truth, I don't care if he came from the ghetto or he was from a suburb, I mean, he could've came from a black suburb, you know, but hey, if he feels like getting something off his, hey, that's on him. I thought the blind cat using the word in an exxagerated manner is the way some dudes use it in the south, because that was funny as hell. I think the show can be thought provoking, but come on, it's just an animated dave chappelle show, for real, it pokes fun of the stereotypes that black people are perceived to act as. Man, the hooker joint was funny with "A Pimp Named Slick Black" and the Joint with R.Kelly with the fat bittie talking about" man, f them uppity niggas, alway they wanna do is tell you how you should eat right and cholesterol, don't nobody wanna hear that sh**" well, I can see that if white people didn't think of black folks in a general manner(as if they don't have their perceptions already) they will have a handful, I mean, can you imagine. now, little white kids who watch that show will learn the use of the word now. now, their gonna repeat it without their parents even saying it anymore. I think it's sad to use that word so many times, but like I've said, I've only heard project cats talk like that as if that's the only thing they know how to pronounce other words than that. but hey the show I guess shines some light onto some of the issues that we don't confront. Or maybe Aaron is just an uppidy nigga too!!!!! I mean he did go to college and has a degree, I don't think he was born in the ghetto.

  • there was a skit in the Chappelle, where this black chick was all about "I keeps it real" but then you see the circumstances to her actions. you have young black men who have developed false sense of what being a man is and end up doing dumb things, and then they end up in Jail getting they fudge packed. I'm just waiting for Boondocks to address that DL brothas. I mean, come on, I bet he's cooking pitching the idea to them executives right now, and their eating it up. I'm not one to knock his hustle, but come on, Bill Cosby made a living doing that. And don't tell me that this show is a hiphop show, becuase it's not, I've seen pimps way before rappers could even say that word and they weren't always black. prostitution has always plagued america, but it's legal in Vegas. I've worked with young black and latino men in the public and I've seen how dumb they will act over somebody stepping on their shoes, come on, man, if you dind't want nobody stepping on your shoes, get them bronzed then, it's bound to happen. I'm not gonna fight you if you step on my damn shoes, son. I don't care how much those joints cost me. call me whatever you want, but fight over material items is just plain petty. I will take my damn shoe home and clean, that's all, but don't tell me that you've never scuffed up your own shoes as well.........

  • "and you can smell that white nectar" now that was funny, but it just shows how some people are. some just feel that white people are just far superior, but it doesn't mean we should hate our own people for thinking that. you know, even Jerry Springer has that"what you call it" "
last thought" I don't know because I hardly watch that show because he's another cat that exploites minorities in a dark light. I mean, come on, Gully, you got it right when you said that we probably mad because somebody's airing out our dirty laundry. you shouldn't hate yourself becuase of your skin tone, if anything, look at how white folks try to look black all day, getting tans at the beach catching skin cancer, white boys buying pumps because they heard that black men have big members. haven't you seen all them white actresses try to liven their hair up using all types of chemicals, come on. Every race has their ups and downs, whites do the same thing with white trash, but the only difference is that white people really don't care for them, while blacks and latinos try to help our own, because nobody else is gonna do it. I don't know, but it's true that you try to help your people out and when they put YOU down, like Mr. DUBOIS, you have to wonder why you even bother. but regardless their our people.

  • I want to address a few of you. Im not bashing anyone because everyone has a right to there opinion. I'll start:

    Jaime,
You say you use the word Nigga on a regular basis with your people. So you have no problems with using that word obviously. Now, I have to ask you. If some white person calls you a Nigga your okay with that , right? your not a black person, Your a Nigga, is that correct? this is what black people want to be identified as is Niggas, right? So white people can just feel comfortable calling us Niggas instead of Black people or African Americans right? I mean when white people turn on the TV and go to the Movies and listen to Rap music all they see and here is Blacks calling Blacks -Nigga, Nigga, Nigga. White America has to look at us blacks like " Hey , they finally accepted this word. After all the Lynching and beatings and killing there leaders like MLK and Malcolm X , we finally got them Niggers to start calling each other that." Jaime, do you see what Im saying? all white people do is hear BLACKS CALLING BLACKS NIGGAS. If you call your fellow Black man(assuming your black) a Nigga then you accept whites calling black men Nigga or black people for that matter right? so you use that word, then if some random white person say for an example at the greogery store says "Hey Nigga paper or plastic" you would just answer, right? cuz thats what you are is a Nigga, right? Jaime, you agree we are no longer African Americans, or black people were Niggas.

And to GULLYSON, same thing. Your agree that blacks should no longer be Identified as Black people or African Americans. Do you agree that blacks should be Identified as Niggas. Like for example, on job applications were it ask for race the options should say Nigga, white, hispanic, native American(those of you who have ever applied for jobs should know what Im talking about).

My point is basically, by blacks constantly seen and heard calling each other that word in Movies, Rap music, TV. WE are making that word mean black people to the rest of America. How can we get so upset at white people for calling us that word Nigga or Nigger(By the way racist white people in the south say Nigga not Nigger). By us calling each other that we are Co-signing with white people.I say this because I have pride in being a young Black man and I hate to see my people be so ignorant.. BLACK PEOPLE JUST OPEN YOUR EYES AND STOP CALLING EACH OTHER NIGGA.

But being the father of an 11 and 5 year old girl, explaining the meaning and use of this word can be difficult. With nigga being thrown around the way it is today, i feel like i'm fighting a losing battle. I would love to see the return for the days when i was a kid and you would accidently hear the older folks in the family use word, and you'd get the fire slapped out of you if that same adult heard you say it.

  • jack daniels, I never said I classify black people as niggas, niggas are people that are igronant and does not care for his/her own race of people. There are black people and there are niggas, two different categories. Just like there are White people and rednecks, it all depends on attitude and how you treat people. You must read my post again and understand what you are saying. Read and the reply. I do not go around and call people nigga this and nigga that. I keep my peace, but if a black person decides to become an asshole then they have stepped the reigon of being ridiculed as a nigga. Same goes for white people, if they stepped the reigon of igronance instead of reason, they are subject of ridiculed of being a redneck. But that's not me, I always remind myself, If I do not have nothing nice to say, I'm not going to talk to you. I think that is just the problem, the humerous light, when are we going to examine ourselves in a more serious matter rather then through bafoonery (if thats a word). We can't expect anyone else to take out issues seriously if we don't take them seriously ourselves. I do say the word nigga and its a shame because its become a bad habit but its totally wrong and unexceptable. Anyone who feels its okay, I dare you to get a dictionary and read what the word nigger says, see if after reading the meaning you are still comfortable being called and calling someone else it.

That's something an educated black man says about a cartoon that's hyped only by black radio stations and the black actors who are doing the voices for the characaters. If it were that much of a "hit" white stations, tv and radio, would promote it. And also, it wouldnt come on so late.

  • Niggas are niggas and crackas are crackas, whatever... What we as black folks and niggas need to understand that there are a number of people OLD and YOUNG who embrace the word and a number of people OLD and YOUNG who deplore the word. (Is deplore a word?) We need to agree to disagree and move on to more serious issues that are really dividing us. They want us to keep arguing with each other over this silly word, in addition to sellin each other crack and shootin each other in our music and in real life. There are so many things that will always keep us divided but this shouldn't be one of them. Let us proud niggas and proud black people come together and attack real issues that affect us as a whole.

So what were we talkin about? Oh, well that cartoon IS kinda boring. Its not bad, just not spectacular. I saw one and a half episodes, and am perfectly fine with missing it on Sunday eve. People are creating this fake contraversy, like when Allen Iverson's rap album was coming out. Not many people are gonna buy it [watch it] anyway, so why all the fuss?

  • Look the word nigga, has to do with power. When the shit started it was meant to make u feel powerless, if u let it irritate or offend u to the no end, then your just giving it more power. I forget who said it earlier, but check out Randall Kennedy's book Nigger:The History of a Troubling Word, on the real most of y'all who haven't read it, can't comment to much until you have. Once again though it's comedy it's a funny show, let's just have some middle ground. And so what, because it's an African American show it can't have the look of Anime, get the fuck outta here. I think most of the people that don't like the show, probably expected too much from jump. And what the fuck, if you haven't noticed the best shows are usually the ones that get little to no press at the beginning till the 1st season's almost and everybody jumps on the bandwagon and I'm talking about black shows, the Chappelle's Shows, Martin, The Chris Rock Show & A Different World's. So if your looking for this show to change your life or have some great epiphany, read the comic strip and get your head out of ass.

I dont smoke any thing either. Now, the reason I choose has to do with personal reason. I combined to of my family members names to come up with that username. Not that, this is any of your business, but I just wanted to clarify that I dont advocate alcohol and drugs in anyway, shape, or form. By you recognizing that name as an alcoholic drink says something about you. When I choose that name I wasnt even thinking about the drink, but you was. So who the drunk SMOCKEYMACPOTT420. I never drank that shit before in my life and never will.
..Now you say that word never killed anybody. Well in the south in the late 60's after segregation was lifted a black man walks into a diner and sits at the counter for a cup of coffie. He orders his coffie and a white man comes behind him and says "Go home Nigger". Now this black man reacts by punching this white dude in his face. And they start fighting And him being the lone black person in the diner they kick him out. This man walks home. He gets home to his family and kisses his kids. About 30 minutes later a brick is thrown through a window. The black man runs outside to see who it was. And to his surprise a gang of KKK were outside with horses and a rope. They drag this blackman to the nearest tree, which was a few steps from his house,in front of his family. Kids and wife crying and screaming. the man is within eye sight of his family. So they can see what happening. The KKK member tie a rope around this black man and hang him from a tree and he dies. All of that happen because this black man punched a white man. And why this he punch that white man? because he call him a Nigger. So next time SMOKEYMACPOTT420, you think the word Nigga never killed nobody. You think of that story and thousands of storys like that.

    GULLY SON,
I understand where you coming from. As far as yeah some blacks do act ignorant and do stupid things, but I still say to call those ignorant blacks "Niggas", To me its co- signing with racism white people who call all of us Niggas.I cant bring myself to call any black person a Nigga and then get upset if a white person call my people Nigga. Even as ignorant a some blacks are, I still say Nigga is a terrible term for them. I had to share that story so people can start to understand the history of that word.

Not black or African American, but a Nigga.

I never saw this show. I'll try to watch it this sunday. Maybe you can explain to me what this " Nigga Movement" is on this show. Thats if your not to high.

  • Damn, ya'll niggas still got that slave mentality, dont' like no fucking change, damn, that KKK story was from the 60's mayne, I'm serious, Jack Daniels, I'm not hatin on the story, but come on, the word nigga never killed anybody, it's like saying that guns kill, they don't kill, people kill people, guns just sit in the shelf, an inanimate object just sitting there with no purpose but to project bullets, that's it, the word nigga is just a word, and no, it's never killed anybody, using it never killed anybody, people kill people, so someone got lynched in the 60s, damn, nigga, are you 50 years old or something, get over that shit already. Damn, I don't need to hear that nonsense, yeah, racism exists, we've seen it in the form of FEMA, not Katrina. will we please stop with the Malarchy, I mean, damn, so Aaron McGruder decides to use the damn word, and you know most niggas don't read anyways so that Book"Nigga is probably being read by more white folks than black cats, those are just facts, man, I've witnessed that working for a book store in a black community, most of them just want to read the damn Source and XXL rather than a book on Psychology or something to enrich their damn lives. there are only a handful who do pick up an actual good book, and you know that bookstore went belly up because niggas would rather have a Liquor store in their neighborhood than a book store. the owner had some good intentions, but you hear all types of comments from the actual neighborhood cats about "why he got a bookstore in the ghetto, don't he no niggas don't read" that's just sad, it's really sad, all them RIF programs were cancelled because niggas weren't reading, a waste of fucking time. and to think that black people got killed for reading back in the day, now white people don't have to do that anymore, they just conditioned blacks to not reading that reading all of a sudden is a white thing. I've been on the bus and I never see a black person reading, too damn busy yapping on the fucking cell phone while the white ones are always reading, come on, man, telling black people to read a book is like telling them to stick together, yeah, the ideas sounds good, but it's never gonna happen. remember Night John and how he taught his folks about reading, all he knew was little, but damn it was like gold. you don't see shit like that no more, the Civil Rights movememt is over and most blacks feel entitled, just face it, they have all these rights and act like they don't even want to exercise them anymore. most of the people in the Civil rights movement were educated black people anyways so you know the po' black folk don't give a fuck about them. together we rise, divided we fall, I don't care if this sounds cliche but damn ya'll wake the fuck up, "and act like you got some Goddamned sense"

The African American male just has a chip on his shoulder and gets intimidated easily when around intelligent people so they never venture out their own hood. it's damn pitifull. Damn, you could do some much and you don't. America does give you them opportunities so don't think it's against. Yeah, racism exist but it will only affect you if you let it, my man. stop thinking that you're the target. if you see an intelligent educated black man, that's what he is, an intelligent black man, if his vocabulary is expanded to using "Big" words, than you need to step your game up, my nigga, don't hate, congratulate, and hate yourself cause you didn't graduate.

  • SMOKEYMACPOTT420,

I am in no way trying to disrespect anyone. Im trying to enlighten you on calling your own people Nigga. I not trying to make you sound like a KKK fan, Im showing you the hypocrisy in calling blacks Nigga then getting offended if whites call us that. A hypocrisy is not good. And blacks are looking like hyprocite's by saying we dont like to get called Nigga, but we are going to call ourselves Nigga. Just recently in the news, there was a controversy at Florida State College. You might of heard about it. A white columnist had a cartoon showing Kanye West and Condolezza Rice. It showed Kanye holding a card that said race on it. It symbolizes him playing the Race card when he said Bush doesnt care about black people on that Katrina Telathon. So it showed Condo Rice saying "Nigga, please" in response. This was in the school newspaper where everyone at the University can see this cartoon. Now black students are holding rallies, protest this white dude to have him kicked out of school for writing that cartoon. This white dude is being herass by black students all over campus. All this because this white college student, who runs the school newspaper, drew a cartoon of 2 black people saying Nigga. Blacks are outrage about this(many of you can goggle this story)..Now I say to my self , wow blacks getting outrage about a white dude drawing a cartoon with a black women saying Nigga. Blacks are not getting mad at Kanye West for putting that word in his song are they?" I aint saying shes a golddiger, but she aint messing with no broke Nigga" we all remember that chorus from one of the biggest songs this year. What Im saying is blacks look like hypocrites. We got mad because Jennifer Lopez used that word in the song with Ja rule called "Im real". No one got upset at Ja rule for using it. Do you see what Im saying?

What do you all think of what I was saying about the white dude who made the cartoon in the school newspaper and used the word nigga and black students getting upset and protesting because a white person used that word the school newspaper.Im speaking on the hypocrisy in all of it that blacks get so up set they have rallies to evict a person out of an institution because they used the word Nigga. When black people are the very ones who use the word themselves. When no one is getting upset at Kanye for using the word in his music. Ya'll can reference my last message I sent. And SMOKEYPOTTMAC420, I respect your view point. I give you credit that at least you admit your a hypocrite. Takes a real person to do that, but just consider what im saying next time you say that word. If we as Black people dont want to be identified as Niggas we shouldnt be calling each other that. You feel me? everytime white people see us blacks in movies they hear that word, in our comedy, our music, on everything associated with black people that word Nigga is tagged with us because its constantly coming out of our mouths. As soon as a white person comes out of there mouths and says it, boom we go crazy(as my example about the Kanye west cartoon). And Im just saying thats foolish of us as a people. We are looking real silly to the rest of the races. Like how can we really get mad about being called Niggas when we are constantly calling ourselves that.

  • White people (who wan't to be black), say the word nigga..... alot. They think its just a word that makes them hip. Same thing goes for any other race.

Right now, Hip-Hop is a fad to them. They don't know how we've been apart of Hip-Hop for so long. To them, old school is Wu-Tang Clan, Big, and Pac.

They traded in there spikey hair, tight pants, and hawaiian shorts for baggy pants and shaved heads (and even cornrows, and white people with cornrows look lame as fuck).

Someone needs to seriously talk some sense into these kids. They're imitating every stereotype down to the point where they even think crime is cool. I saw white kids stealing clothes, and not sweater vests, but G-Unit tee's and pants. These kids look like they're already well off too.

I was talking to some white kid, and he was trying to use ebonics, he asked me how I talk proper, I asked him "Are all black people suppose to be illiterate?" and he said "Yeah." That shit shocked me, how some white kid thought he knew everything, and even thought he was "blacker then me." Nigga, fuck him!

Also the scene in which huey fights the Blind Nigga Samurai is probably some of the dopest animation since ninja scroll. With a phenomenal soundtrack to boot.

I thought some of the earlier episodes were a bit flat, this one kept me laughing.

  • Personally, I am a 17 year old black high school studen who watches tons of anime. I mean I really watch alot of it. I think that this anime-style animation that they are using is top notch. Black people look way better in this style of art and animation. The Black Nigga Samurai and Isato Ichi vs The Ninja's was the truth. It reminded me of Samurai Champloo on a few levels. If nothing else, I would watch it for the animation and art style alone.

For one, I will say that I am happy to see some black people in here have an actual conversation without the usual goons to come along and throw in a hail of ignorant comments and language. I don't think that they overuse the word "nigga" because I hear that word over 100 times every day at school. I know white guys and chicks who are into rap but they never use that word, even when saying lyrics. They have respect for the culture and they don't try to use it as something to try to fit in. It seems to come naturally to them because you wouldn't see anything fake about them. My boy Moscow listens to more rap than I do and he uses slange(not to the point where it gets annoying. He knows when and how to use it), yet he respects it and I give him my respect for doing that. He is also one of the few people who put me down when I start thinking about serious business. I am a very deep minded person so I don't talk that much, I think alot and everytime I do speak I try to make it meaningful. I get put down by my fellow black men yet this one white boy will actually listen to what I have to say and give me his honest opinion. Don't get me wrong, I have lots of black freinds who listen and don't think I am overthinking and all of that but there aren't many. My boy Mike is Black/Puerto Rican and he gives me more insight than anyone I know.

Leaving all of that aside, I think the Boondocks is a great show. I could care less if an episode is funny or not. I'm not watching it for the laughs. I am watching it for what each episode is supposed to mean. WHat is it that we as black people do that makes us look like fools to the rest of the world? Notice I didn't say country, the world is watching people(believe it or not). The comedy element is just extra in my book. If there were absolutely no jokes in this, I would still watch it. Also, seeing as how I don't live in the Big Apple(I was born in Harlem though), I live in black suburbia where you can still find alot, I mean ALOT, of ignorance from black people. Hell, I live in a town were black people try so hard to be like they are from the ghetto. I mean, my school has had over $100 Million Dollars of equiptment put into it. We are no longer going to be a division 5 school but a division 1 school. Despite all of this, I beieve it will only be a matter of time before that school gets a bit messed up. 70% of the school is Black/Latino and you know how they can get sometimes. Still, I like to look on the bright side of things. I don't always read as much as I should but I will start now after reading a very insightful book in school about an Indian boy named "Siddhartha". This book has made me think about alot of things in my life and now I plan on doing something about my personal flaws. Even though it isn't about waking black people up to the realities of life in America, it opened my eyes to my inner demons and think about how Life in general is and what the most important thing in life actually is. I apologize for any spelling errors, gramatical mistakes, or inchoheriancy(not sure if that is spelled correctly) because I am currently watching Neon Genisis Evangelion. I doubt that this post made anyone think that much about what I have said but I posted it because it is what was on my mind at the time after reading ALL of the above posts. Thank You for your time.

We as black people need to laugh at ourselves one day with the rest of the world. So, once we do that another joke cracked about us will just simply roll off. Not a cause for a Million Man March. • I understand what you are saying. I remember when I used to never want to say the word for fear of what my mother would do to me. In the 5th grade, I began to start using bad language. Don't get me wrongm it wasn't to the extent of where I would seem like another ignorant black kid but I started with words like "hell", in which I used to substitute it with "hamm". Then the 4 letter words started rolling in. It was because I heard it so much at school. Slowly, I started to use the language more and more. One day, I said the F-word and my mom wooped my ass. I curse every now and then but the words become a part of you and it is hard to stop because I got into the habbit of using it. I don't surse that much now but I can definately improve. I don't say the word "nigga" that much because I feel the word will always have the same meaning no matter how much black people try to flip the meaning around and turn it into a positive. The sound alone is enough to make some people catch flashbacks. My mom is one. She used to work on a Sharecrop farm back in the bad-ol-days. She has been through some terrible things and it pains her to see how this word is being used now after fighting to get rid of it for so long. It is like, the more we fight, the worse off we are. I also don't really believe that the government is devising a plan to eliminate all black people either. If they wanted o do that, they could have done it a long time ago. Black people blame everyone for their problems but themselves. When I do something that I know I shouldn't have, I can't go and say that the white boy did it. I have a heavy conscience and it would really keep stabbing at me until I come clean with myself. Just like how I could never kill a person just to do it. It would make my entire being uneasy for the rest of my life. I often times wich I was a bit harder but I am not. This doesn't mean that I don't have the potential though. I could be a straight up demon if pushed to the limits. However, I have strong self control so that always works out in my favor. This show is telling us something that we need to take serious. Aaron McGruder is a man who is only trying to get black people to understand that what we are doing in this time period will ultimately lead to our own self destruction. I mean, how much longer do we plan to let these celebrities control what we believe is important in our lives? $200,000 cars on 20" rims is what we find as important? Why is it that we are the only people who believe that such garbage is what we should aim for in life? Hip Hop is good, we have something in this country to identify ourselves with but what is the core of all of this? What is it's purpose? Hip Hop no longer seems to be a method of self expression anymore. It has now become a way to make money and everyone in getting in it just for that reason. What happened to lifting black people in the ghetto up? All we hear is songs about bitches, how much money I got, and killing someone. WHAT! Are you telling me that this is the type of medium that we choose as a people to express what we feel? No, it is what we choose to make money. What is this money for? Hardly anything that will better ourselves for the future generations.

This show is constructed to let us see what major faults we have and open our eyes to the fact that this is mearly the near future if things continue. Jack Daniels, why does it seem like black people always need one person to step into the spotlight and lead them to the Valley of Shangrila? Are you telling me that we as a people do not have the mental and self respect to make our own choices on how we should take the next step into being one with the world? Think about it. We honor so many indeviduals in our history that have literally became martyrs just to try and boost us to a higher plateua in society. Despite these people devoting their lives into making things better for us, all we can do is take what they have given us and do nothing with it. We have the same opportunities as any other ethnicity to go to school and get an education and do something with our lives that is meaningful. Yet, how many blacks drop out of school every year? Its even worse for the black boys rather than girls. The percentage of black males enrolling in universities and colleges is getting lower and lower every year. The black girls are getting more and more. Seems like someone isn't exactly letting life pass them by. Any man who would allow themselves to be out done by a woman should feel ashamed. Not because men are supposidly better than women, but the fact that men are the Forwards and women are the support. One isn't any more important that the other. There is a balance that must be maintaned and men are beginning to drop in numbers. Women are leaving them behind and this will definately be a problem in the future. Men are like a well sharpened sword that can cun almost anything. Women are the shieth that protects this blade from rusting and getting the shard edges dull. A sword without it's shieth is of no use. There are so many shieths(women) that are upgrading to support a newer and better type of sword and the swords(men) are not matching up with these new numbers. What does this say about us? Black men are beciming less and less superior to women.

Sorry, I may be getting a bit off topic but I do think alot. I really think alot and I am typing whatever comes in my mind, so I apologize if it seems like I am typing a novel here. Bottom line is, black people in the USA need to undergo a MASSIVE reform. Black men need to improve the most to catch up to our women, for they are growing in class and men are being left behind. Pretty soon, the black man will be obselete. All due to the ignorance that we have embraced over the years. Something has got to give.
