The Boondocks: Episode 2- Even More Fun Saying "Nigga"

They did it again! Aaron McGruder and the team at “The Boondocks” not only touched on hot-button issues with their second episode… They slapped the shit out of them.
As Huey put it… “Niggas are crazy.” I couldn’t agree more. And for those of you who couldn’t tell or were too slow to get it in my last post, I am a BLACK MAN, so I can say that. It’s not that I want other races to know that some of my own are crazy, but it is what it is and sometimes you have to call cats on it.
I know this will cause some controversy but…O.J. DID IT. TYSON DID IT. KOBE DID IT. R. KELLY DID IT. AND MICHAEL DAMN SURE DID IT… TWICE. There I said it. I feel cleansed. Like Huey says, “Every famous nigga that gets arrested is not Nelson Mandela.”
Now, as I hear sidekick IIs blowing up in preparation to revoke my ghetto pass, please allow me to explain. Do I think every Black man that commits a crime is guilty? No. Do I think the American justice system is flawed? Hell to the yes. Would I move if someone was going to pee on me? You damn right. I would even go as far to say that I love my brothers and sisters who blindly rep for these celebrities caught up in the system, but at what cost?
I know many who think R. Kelly is not guilty, but would you let you underage daughter/sister hang out in a studio with him at 2am? Better yet would you let that same daughter hang out in a hotel room with Tyson? Or your son with the King of Pop? I didn’t think so.
That said people still want to believe. I guess you have to believe in something, right? But why this? Do we have nothing more to believe in? 40 years ago, we were supporting cats like King and Malcolm as they went to jail. Yet, these brothers have now been replaced by a cocky basketball player and an R&B “genius” who sings about feeling a chick’s booty? Need I say more?
I guess the show’s resolution—that no matter our differences we are all family—is what brings us back together. And despite the tooth-aching sweetness of the sentiment, the conflict still remains.
Oh well, when all else fails I always like to rely on the trusting words of Uncle Ruckus, my spiritual guide: “DON’T TRUST THEM NEW NIGGAS OVER THERE.”

I am a black man and I detest the word nigga(er). there is no difference in the pronounciation ar meaning. Talk to one of the older men in your family. Did you know that in the south, and South Carolina in particular Black men could not wear white collared shirts because that meant they were proffesionals? Of course a Black man did not have the intellectual capacity to be a proffesional so he must be aspiring, so the racist mentality went. Now, I think "The Boondocks" is the funniest thing on T.V. since "Sanford & Son". I can take a joke but when people spew that epithet without knowledge of the painful, derogetory, and murderous history behind it, it makes us all look like idiots . I'm not gonna let a white person call me nigger to my face and I'm not gona let a Black person either.Trust me this is a up hill battle. I have family memebers who "forget" I hate that word which can make for some interesting get togethers. But I check my family and I'll check a cat I just met. we seem to have forgot what little progress we've made. No, the more we say it does not deminish it's impact. Words only have the power you give/allow them. The effects of certain words have changed over time because of the power people have given to or taken away from these words.
I think being able to say certain words in the face of their history with an entirely new meaning that exhibits a common bond and remembrace of struggle is a pretty excellent thing.

I use the word nigger/nigga but I do not buy into the whole 'we took the word and we are making it a positive' or 'we are taking the power from the word' nonsense.

I have been a big fan of the boondocks, and it's something I read and enjoy with my mother. I never thought we'd see eye to eye politically on anything but here we are. Now as far as the show is concerned, I don't think she's ready to watch it, but I'll introduce her to it, and see how that goes.

It's great to see a somewhat intelligent discussion about the use of the word "nigger". Some of us hate ourselves so much that we rationalize the use of a self-hating term. As I said I love the Boondocks. It's a funny show. The R. Kelly show was bananas. I can recognize the difference between satire and literal. The show is definitely a satire. That doesn't make the use of the word "nigger" any less uncomfrotable for me. It won't deter me from watching it just as my fam using it won't deter me from loving them. It just comes a time when we have to say enough. I love myself enough and have enough wisdom to realize using that term isn't the move. To those who do,research the origins, check our past. Look at the pictures of the strange fruit, the emolations, the dog attacks,Emmitt Till's before and after pictures, the church bombing. Hell, those of you lucky enough to have an adult man in your family over 65, ask him about the atmosphere of those times. Then, look in the mirror and ask yourself if you see a "nigger".

Not once did I mention white people in my blog. You see, when it comes down to it, it's not black and white, it's green. The powers that be use race as a devisive measure to keep POOR people down and at each other's throats. You see it's something called economic jealousy that makes some people of oother cultures detest Black atheletes. It's a lot deeper than that word but this blog was about that word so I didn't get into it. Money, the more you dig, the deeper it gets. Once we stop parroting tired and outdated modes of thinking we will move beyond the symtoms and start treating the issues. Once a person reaches a certain finacial status, thier skin color no longer matters in THEIR world. It gets deep. And Smokey, you know better. I live in Philly. We used to have people of all cultures marching for welfare rights. They would tie up traffic down town and cause confustion. They got NO sympathy because if they had time to march, they had time to find jobs and go to school. Plus, they created no tax base because they paid no taxes which reduces the services in their nieghborhods. Blacks are ALL over EVERYTHING you think, yeah it took a long time for some blacks to win a oscar, but it took longer to get the right to vote! there is ONLY one thing a black man CAN' T be in the USA and that is PRESEDENT! I got this white friend named Jason, and let that fool role threw the hood at night, and BET he will be pulled over and harrassed by the cops, and that same white friend gets looked at strange when he shops at the "Black" malls!!! I dont think we are far apart in what we are saying.. I thought you were saying racism doesnt exist anymore. You made it clear what you were saying, but please believe that there are plenty of white people who want to see us fail. One thing you said that I like was the fact that we need more blacks in office and not in rap or sports. That was a good point. The more blacks in office(who arent uncle toms)the more changes we can get in the black community. Lord knows only blacks are going to look out for blacks. Kanye west was on the ball when he said Bush dont give a damn about black people. Its really time for black people to care about ourselves, feel me. If black people can unite we can obtain so much more as a unit instead of pieces. This where my whole slavery is still alive today thing comes in. I think black people in some ways (as sad as it is) are still slaves. Not with shackles and chains but in the mind. Blacks have been tricked into buying rims and jewlery and clothes instead of investing and saving money. Im not going to go into preaching. As far as your friend Jason, what he goes through is unfortunate. Everyone should have a right to go and be where they please without fear of there safety.I think the racial tension in America was created by whites hundreds of years ago. All this talk about slaver and the old days is over, taht shit aint true. im 16 and i go to a scool in dublin ohio. now some of yall might think, o0o0 he's in dublin he got it made, heel naaw, it ain even like that. in my school we have about 3 or 4 thousand students, and only about 1 or 2 hundred are black. when i walk through the hallway by myself i still get dirty looks from the white ppl just like in slavery days. yea they dont call me a nigga to my face but when im in the restroom and im by myself with three or four white biyz who do you think they look at....yea me. when i go into the stalls all i see is "Die nigger Die". but unlie some ppl i keep movin forward trynna prove to people that my people, my black people can succeed at life. And they dont have to be controlled by white ppl, like Condelezza Rice is.
