The Boondocks: Episode I

Yeah, I know its a few days late but here’s my first of what will be many postings about Aaron McGruder’s “The Boondocks.”
First off, I give Cartoon Network a lot of credit for taking a chance on such a controversial show. And if what I hear is correct – the network is said to be collaborating with Andre 3000, David Banner and MF Doom on individual projects – it sounds like this is just the beginning.
Anyway, “The Boondocks” lived up to the hype and then some. Here are three reasons alone why this show has a permanent spot on my TiVo and in my heart… that is until something better comes along:
1. The opening sequence where the young, militant Huey Freeman starts a riot at a bourgeoisie garden party full of white people by stating three simple truths:
“Jesus was Black, Ronald Reagan was the devil and the government lied about 9/11.”
Never were truer words spoken by an animated pre-teen… and he speaks so well. By the way, shout out to McGruder for throwing the Sean Connery and Ron Artest-look-alikes into the fray.
2. “Nigga.” Yeah, I wrote it. What’s the big deal? I know that it was said 15 times during the 30-minute premiere and protesters are already circling their wagons but come on… Did the show not address the ironic way we as African-Americans use the word hypocritically in the first 10 or 15 minutes (an approximation)? Let’s not be so sensitive. Nigga. Nigga. Nigga. And yes, it is even more ironic that the website that I write for censors the word here.
3. Uncle Ruckus’ “Don’t Trust Them New Niggas Over There.” That is quite possibly my new favorite song. I hear that it should be available via iTunes next week. Word is 50 Cent is even looking to sign the old player to a multi-album deal. Yeah, he already has Tony Yayo. What’s another old dude in the fold… Especially one that spits the hate like the good Uncle.
All that said, I know there are those who weren’t feeling the show on general principle. To those people I say, give it a few weeks. If you still don’t like it, I can recommend some more suitable programming. I hear PAX and Lifetime have great programming on Sundays at 11pm.
Aiight, now let me go find a white man to lie to. I’m out.

the responsibility lies with the people themselves but consider the media that shapes everyone's thinking which leads to the decisions they make. Example: with history comes pride: textbooks won't tell directly that whites were slaves to assert pride in their people. At the same time, those books don't cover the technological advances made by Blacks and Latinos in the states to crush self esteem.
One reason is because the states have made us ashamed of our true place of origin, thus ashamed of ourselves. In my past, blacks would pride themselves of Caucausian relatives and downplay the fact that they are descendants of Africans.
most blacks(or everyone else in the states) have no clue that the finest tourist escapades are in Africa, excluding the safari trails.
the real reason urban blacks depend on reputation--it's all we have. Sadly enough, that reputation depends on being cool. 98% of how young people act depends on being cool.
Take for instance, not the rule, how blacks justify having white friends to other blacks: He/She's cool.

The major reason we (black people) are in the state we are in is due to the lack of education. Is it white peoples fault? Yes. Is it our own fault? Yes. However pointing the finger won't solve anything (as we all can see). If we really desire to elevate ourselves to a higher postion then we must educate our children in a stable environment, both in the schools and at home. A child can't be expected to learn if they are hungry or living in poor conditions. How is a child supposed to do homework that his/her parents can't help with? If a child is not being educated or challenged at home, then it will be very hard to educate that child in any environment. Soon the white and black issue will disapper and be replaced by the rich and poor issue, so stop fighting in small battles and start fighting the war.
