50 Cent - "Window Shopper"

Okay 50 Cent fans, we’re getting into yet another video in which he reminds you of how broke you are, how rich you’ve made him, and you’re going to love it!

50-caricature.jpg

Today’s selection is “Window Shopper,” [watch it now] an ode to having shit that your broke ass can only observe through 3-inch glass.

Murder Inc. Varsity Team - "Down 4 U"

Closing out a wonderful Murder Inc week we conclude the Pep Rally with the Varsity team today in [touch]“Down 4 U.” [watch it now]

the-inc.jpg

Irv Gotti and his merry band of Murderers that includes Ja Rule, Ashanti, Charli Baltimore and the long-since forgotten Vita (my favorite murderer) show us what being an Inc-ster in the current millennium is all about… Really soft songs about chicks!

Irv Gotti - "Ride Wit' Us"

I didn’t know Irv Gotti was a recording artist!

Irv_Gotti_-_news_image.jpg

He actually has a couple albums in his name. Producer/label exec Irving Lorenzo delivered strike 2 with his second Murder Inc. compilation for which the video and single for “Ride Wit Us” [watch it now] did little more than embarrass himself and display the mediocre (at best) lineup that was a Ja Rule-less Murder Inc. Looks like he followed the Layden-era Knicks’ philosophy of roster moves. I think Clarence Weatherspoon has a verse on this shit.

Nevermind, that’s just Caddilac Tah.

Lloyd - "Hey Young Girl"

As you all are aware, the Murder Inc. trial has been postponed. But you know what… We’ve already started Murder Inc. week, so fuck it! We're gonna finish it!

lloyd.jpg

I don’t know about all of the drug/laundering shit, but these cats should be put on trial for some of the musical crimes they’ve committed over the past few years. Who the fuck is Lloyd and why was his video “Hey Young Girl” [watch it now] available for mass consumption? This kid was the best Murder Inc. could do for a teen idol? They couldn’t find a Chris Brown? Well… at least they have a touchdown of their own. Throw him in the back of the short bus with the shaved chipmunk, Crack Child and Ja and see if they can drool out a hit!

Ja Rule feat. Ashanti - "Mesmerize"

Our next contestant: Ja Rule & Ashanti (which is an entirely different entity from either artist separately.)

Ja-Rule-Ashanti.jpg

Continuing in our Murder Inc. week fun, our friends Stuart Little and Sideburns the Shaved Chipmunk provide all the Strawberry Sweetcake necessary for the pre-teen slumber party that is the video for “Mesmerize.” [watch it now]

Ja Rule - "Reign"

Due to the trial officially beginning this morning, it’s Murder Inc. week on Talkin’ Videos.

ja-rule-large.jpg

Given the situation, I couldn’t find a more appropriate video than Ja Rule’s eerily foretelling “Reign.” [watch it now]

Rev. Run - "Mind On The Road"

You gettin' dollars from dealin wit Rev. Run.

revrun.jpg

Well, only if you’re an 80s rocker. DJ Run of the legendary Run DMC crew emerges with a solo project over a decade after their last work of relevance. “Mind On The Road” [watch it now] is the lead effort from his “Distortion” album. I’d have to agree some shit is definitely distorted. What was this nigga thinkin coming out the house lookin like Count Chocula?

Unwrapped All-Stars - "Bouncin' Back"

cotton.jpg

Today's selection isn't really a throwback. In fact, it's only a couple years old. However, it's definitely a throwback in the sense that it makes a wholehearted attempt at showing us where this music has come from. Hidden Beach Recordings' Unwrapped All-Stars give us their rendition of the classic brought to our attention by current inmate Mystikal, "Bouncin' Back." [watch it now] Let's have a long hard look at this one. Let's reflect and appreciate.

Black Eyed Peas - "My Humps"

What the fuck have you people requested? Didn’t you know you could control Black Eyed Peas with one finger?

black-eyed-peas.jpg

The Black Eyed Peas show us their "lovely lady lumps" and little more in their newest video “My Humps.” [watch it now] You know… I heard this song once and laughed my ass off. This was the last song on that wretched album that I expected to see a video for, but the Black Eyed Gimmick never ceases to surprise, if nothing else.

D4L - "Laffy Taffy"

I must apologize to Dem Franchise Boyz for being so hard on them. Apparently there are far greater evils in the world of rap... Namely their poorly developed clones.

D4L.jpg

D4L wants to share their sweet tooth with the world, and their knots of singles with some skrippers in the hip-hop farce "Laffy Taffy." [watch it now] Sweet Jesus, it's shit like this that gives the South a bad name. If I were below the Mason-Dixon I'd be offended. We might as well watch some blackface. In the meantime, we'll watch some gulz shake the Laffy Taffy and some brothers make damn fools of themselves.

Twista feat. Trey Songz - "Girl Tonite"

She said she want a ballad from Trey Songz... a verse from Twista... some Minnie Ripperton... would definitely set ths party off right!

twista.jpg

Don't eat the money, Carl!

The converted R&B-crooner (Twista) and professional rapper sidekick still trying to make it (Trey Songz) have decided to fill each other's needs in "Girl Tonite." [watch it now] Forgive me if i yawn somewhere in today's blog. It's not that the song or video are uninteresting... Well... okay... yes it is.

Ron Artest - "Oh Yeah"

This can’t be what Ron Artest was asking for time off from the Pacers for.

artest.jpg

That ain't how you spell "warrior," man!

I’ve defended this man to the death… But I’m now convinced he’s a touchdown. Ron Artest’s extended summer vacation produced an Allure album and this shit. His solo debut and video “Oh Yeah” [watch it now] is a hot heaping pile of god-damned shame. I’d rather hear Iverson’s "40 Bars," Kobe’s "K.O.B.E." (feat. Tyra Banks), Chris Webber’s “Gangsta, Gangsta (feat. Kurupt)” AND Patrick Ewing’s “We Be Tippin’” than this shit. Fortunately for us, this one has a clown-worthy video. (So does C. Webb, but that’ll have to be a throwback.)

Run DMC - "King Of Rock"

For "Throwback Thursday" we’re gonna take it back like 20 years. Man... This shit makes me wanna go get my adidas out the closet. Be right back!

rundmcparis.jpg

Legendary rap trio Run DMC burst onto the pop scene noting parallels and bridging the gap between rappin and rockin. In their own special way, they let the world know that rap was OUR rock. At this point in the game, these dudes as a collective were definitely the kang of ghetto rock. “King of Rock” [watch it now] was one of many similar visual offerings from the crew that played a huge role in the popularization of our genre. In other words… Thanks to these cats… I’M GETTIN’ MONEY, NIGGAAAAAAA!

Ricky Martin feat. Fat Joe & Amerie - "I Don't Care"

In one of the quickest requests I’ve ever turned, we find that Ricky Martin and Fat Joe make strange bedfellows.

rickymartin-fatjoe.jpg

I can’t quite call this, nor could I say I ever saw it coming, but La Vida Loca meets Lean Back and enlists the R&B stylings of Amerie on Senor Martin’s newest single and video combination “I Don’t Care.” [watch it now]. Wow, Ricky… You could have fooled me. (Please feel the sarcasm there.)

Lil' Kim - "Lighters Up"

Alright... Daddy Mejico is back to business, holmes. Thanks for the love and support in my absence! Now back to work.

wc-kim.jpg

While on the subject of folks disappearing for a minute, the Queen Bee's latest endeavor hasn't been discussed on Talkin' Videos. For shame! Let's remedy that today. Lil' Kim's sendoff video "Lighters Up" [watch it now] appears to be little more than a desperate plea for the support of the streets during this tough time. Damn, it's hard being young, famous and stupid!

The Best of Talkin' Videos Part 3

Ok, we're halfway into Ron Mexico's vacation. He'll be back next week to serve up something spectacular like for the Talkin' Videos faithful. In the meantime, I'm digging in his 100 post deep archives to recycle some cracks to help you guys ease the shakes.

Trust me, I'm going through it too.

Walk with me...

As I explained yesterday, your boy Ron Mexico is on vacation this week. I'll be your host on this here blog until Monday.

For now, to celebrate Ronnie being 100 posts deep in the game, we're looking back in time at The Best of Talkin' Videos. Ride with me, ya'll...

The Best of Talkin' Videos Part 1

Ladies and Co-d's, listen up: Ron Mexico has been fired!

After 5 months and 100 posts of his off the wall reviews of our favorite rapper pimps, video hoes, and background weed carriers, SOHH proper had no choice but to let Mr. Mexico go. How many death threats from lame video directors can we take? It was for the good of the whole site to cut off Mexico-mania before the cancer spread.

Nope, I'm just joking. Ronnie is taking the week off to rest up, like Eminem. He'll be back next week with more of that crack for you kids.

In the meantime let's celebrate the 100 posts milestone and look back at The Best of Talkin' Videos!
