"Dead in the middle of Little Italy, little did we know that we riddled some middle men who didn't do diddly."

You KNOW we all rewound that line about 750 times when we first heard that track. However, I've found that most DON'T know that the song had a video. I stumbled upon it on a late night public access show my damn self. This week's throwback comes to us courtesy of the late great Big Pun (who's seldom mentioned when you guys exhume MC carcasses on my blog daily). Covering the Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg classic, Fat Joe and The Punisher do a little Donnie Brasco damage in "Twinz (Deep Cover '98)." [watch it now]
How long have we known that Snoop Dogg is a terrible actor? This shit is not a recent development. Yet, he continues to land roles (in films and car commercials). Even more ironically... people complain! The man couldn't even convincingly tell Big Pun via cell phone that someone was snitching. He CAN wear an all black suit and mean mug though. Fuck the acting though. The real problem lies in that we would all soon find that Snoop couldn't rap anymore either.
Christopher Rios always had a great sense of humor. His mafia persona in the video was hilarious. The voice he puts on is classic. Gotta respect a dude who maintains a balance of gangstadom and not taking himself too seriously. That level of talent combined with such lack of ego is damn near impossible to find. Far less talented niggas think they are god's gift to the craft and act accordingly.
The "Twinzitos" video wouldn't have been complete without a shot of the duo in front of the projects... with everyone outside of their apartments. Those people didn't even know a shoot was happening. The elevator went out and there was NO WAY they were gonna walk up to the 17th floor. Fuck THAT!
While they looked much like 2 Butterbeans in their fatigue one-pieces, Pun definitely made Joe look like he wasn't that fat. This was the most reserved I've seen Pun in a video though. Remember "Still Not A Player?"... Yeah... when he was on that little motorcycle? That wasn't right. The shit was literally IN his ass crack. The nigga did not care.
Man... Does Fat Joe ever miss Big Pun? Pun definitely brought out the best in Joey Crack as an MC. Even when he wasn't penning Joe's rhymes, Crack stepped his shit up. The man has gone damn near lifeless since Pun's passing. Not only did Terror Squad die, but a piece of Fat Joe appears to have passed on as well.
For today and today only, Pun, Joe and Terror Squad of the 90s live! I'll probably watch this video about 12 or 13 times today. Make sure you roll your reefer in the bible paper like Pun told you. Get your lighters up for my man, Chris!
Questions? Comments? Requests? Did you cry like a baby when you heard him exclaim "I just lost 100 pounds!/ I'm trynna LIVE!" on "It's So Hard" too? ronnie_mexxx@yahoo.com I've got a shoulder for you. But we're celebrating today.

I got nothin bad to say today. Great song, good video, incredible MC - we miss you Pun!
I will say that I will always remember Pun's little dance form the Still Not a Player video, shit makes me grin to myself everytime I think about it....
What was crazy about the day that Pun passed, is that unlike just about all the other MC's that have gone over the years, with Pun, it was a complete LACK of surprise when most of us heard that he had a heart attack. Most heads I know were just on some 'well, you knew it was coming', but once that lack of initial surprise wore off, it was some real depressing shit. Pun's wordplay was so damn ahead of it's time, but he didn't have long enough to shine to get proper credit for it. He still can't be touched.
Great throwback pick!
RIP Pun! Do you guys remember that straight to DVD movie "Thicker than Water" (I think that was the name)? Pun was so big in it they had a scene where he was sitting at the table and they couldn't get both guys in the shot without zooming too far out. You can see his whole gut sitting there, but they couldn't even get his head in it. Too bad people didn't try to intervene earlier instead of being yes-men. I read that he would ride around in a scooter instead of walking to get a little bit of excercise. Sad. Nice to see him on screen again!
I aint gonna front PUN was definitely one of the best rappers in that era when he came up. Even vets that were already on the map couldnt touch that man on the mic. He got on tracks with the best of them jada,nas,g.rap,etc... and spanked them all lyrically. Joe put pun on then joe was in his shadow a few mixtapes later. I just wish he was around for three more albums at least
That line is all killer and no filler... or as Snoop would say... all kizzle no fizzle for shizzle my nizzle.
But, be fair - In Training Day you have Dre as the bent cop Paul and Snoop as a crack dealer in a wheelchair. Snoop was convincing - Dre was straight wooden.
When Pun passed, and they told me how he died, I said "Stop. That shit ain't funny! It could REALLY happen." Then I heard on the radio that it was true. I was all kinds of fucked up.
Yeah... Dre was kinda wooden. Xzibit would have been a LOT better in that role. Snoop in the wheelchair was comedy to me. I didn't think the lines were good, but the look was convincing.
Yo let me be clear. I have never seen Big Pun rap but you know he sounds pretty good. But DAMN man i have seen a picture of Pun and shit he is FAT!! No dissrespect but DAMN!!
One of the hottest colabo's and video's of all time.
This could have been just some rip of of Deep Cover but Pun and Crack made it their own.
That's all I gotta say so if theres any rappers who thought they came close to Pun watch this video and Foughettaboutit!!!!!
They really DID make it a song of their own.
When I hear the beat, I think of BOTH songs. Which is rare.
Yeah, kind of like The Luniz and Puff with the "Five on It" beat?
Playin!!!
"...let me find the next mother f*#ka to disrespect Fat Joe the Don Carta/and then i'ma have to jig-a-ni$$a like Shawn Carter!"
-Big Punisher-
Dam just seeing this video again is crazy! I remember being in High School chillin in the lunch room just talkin' about how HOT this song was and how ill Pun/Joe sounded! Pun was always on some super lyrical $hit and Joey Crack (like always) was just lettin you know that if you come @ Pun you mos def gonna catch a serious beat down!
And for all you naysayers, haters, doubters, J.O.E.'s (Jealous One'z Envy!), etc. that run around saying Joe is this....Joe is that....Joe wouldn't be nothing without Pun..yeah yeah yeah what ever. I'm from that early 90's Hip-Hop era and if you've follwed Crack from his Flow Joe day's then you know nuttin has changed since day one! Yeah the gold has turned to ice and the money is obviously a major issue nowadays but the m.o. is still the same. And as far as this beef that Ms. 2 Quarter's just had to start with Joe makes me wish so bad that PUN was here so he could eat that ni$$a alive...both lyrically and physically (no pun intended) lol! And if you want a taste of what he would do then just peep "My Turn" from YEEEEAH BABY! and you will see PUN was $hittin' on him then! When it comes to war remember "....Joey Crack's the rock and Big PUN keeps the gunz cocked!!!!!"
