2Pac feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg - "2 Of Amerika'z Most Wanted"

Posted on September 8, 2005 1:28 PM

Fuck it. I figure it’s 2Pac time again for Throwback Thursday.

tupacsnoop.jpg

I like 2Pac. You like 2Pac? Okay, then. Without further ado, I present 2Pac and Snoop Doggy Dogg in “2 Of Amerika’z Most Wanted.” [watch it now]

I was hoping 2Pac would be like Beetlejuice. If I said his name enough times he would come back... but nope. You try it at home and see what happens, okay?

There are no jokes I could make even comparable to how they shit all over BIG and Puffy in the intro. If any of you remember the whole Piggy Smalls thing, this and “Hit Em Up” got the job done in 1996. Fuck a clickety-clank. THAT was a serving! It was so bad, the hottest MC in the game had to just walk away from it.

The usually-left-out intro gives plenty of insight as to why they are on trial and what the whole CSI investigation is about. Those of you who said Snoop was completely uninvolved in the Death Row/Bad Boy beef when I questioned Puffy’s selection of Snoop for Warning at the VMAs need to watch this video closely. While Big and Pac were the lead combatants, Suge, Pac & Tha Row effectively made it camp vs. camp and coast vs. coast. Snoop knew what side he was on. That’s why he went and knocked the buildings over.

You know what Death Row classic artist I miss who didn’t get the respect he deserved? Daz Dillinger. Not only did he produce TONS of shit, perfecting a Cali sound that is now signature, but people don’t realize he is the originator of the aggressive, staccato, crip-walky flow Pac adopted for this album. Special shout-out to Snoop’s cousin always left in the background. I feel ya, big homie.

I know 1996 isn’t that long ago (well… for some of you it was 2/3 of your lives away) but it was a happier time for Snoop. He hadn’t fried his brain away on that shit yet. He was acquitted on a serious murder charge and he was securely entrenched as King of the West. The man could do no wrong. Someone please tell a Snoop fan like myself what the fuck happened.

Of all the Snoop Doggy Dogg action figures the media has collected, my favorite by far is Long Perm Snoop! That was the gangsta pimp with a flow that could murder you… oh yeah, and a bodyguard who could do the same.

Pac is a cold ass motherfucker. Whether or not you think his thug persona was acting, it was highly entertaining and damn convincing. What MC could pull off balling up a paper ball and beaning a prosecutor in the middle of his murder trial… even if only in a music video?

Come rock with not one, but 2 of the greatest of all time today. Remember what you were doing when this came out? Shit… I was rockin a Tim Biakubutuka Michigan jersey trynna be fly at the skatin rink. ROLL BOUNCE, BITCHES!

  • This song is so hot!! This is a song you can just chill to.

Remember when we had attention spans and could watch a 5 min long video?

Time flies so fast...it feels like this song came out yesterday.

Only Pac n Snoop could be in court and be dancing and no one finds it out of the ordinary. I wanted snoop to buss a "heather" and wipe his hair back.

I've got nothing but love for this song

  • Well.. Well...Well... Finally a damned site that recognizes the few times hip hop was actually hip hop. Thank you for putting the real G.O.A.T on the throwback. Now that the jimmy scrubbers ran out of material to claim big's place at the throne, we still got like what is it?300 pac songs left to analize? This was the ishh, I ran up my mom's bill ordering this damned thing on "The box" for all you hood mofo's who had no cable in the late 90's. I'd still take that ass whopping (lol) to keep ordering this track. Thank you for introducing these youngin's to true legendary status. Certified classic!!!

  • Nice pick. I remember thinking this song was weak when it came out, which is a hell of a testament to what hip was and what it has become today.

This drops today, middle school net jargon users aside, it would be game over.

In reference to Dat Nigga Daz (I can only bring myself to call him by his full name, for the obvious reasons), mank do and many don't know that he was the man behind the curtain in the Chronic production lab. He, like many others since (and Yella before him) had the dubious honor of banging out some heat on the SP 1200's and MPC's, for Dre to come in later, do some 'tweaking' and claim the beat as his own. For that Mr. Dat Nigga, you will always be honored as the stepfather of the G-Funk revolution.

I take a brief moment to stray from the topic and address you, Mr. Mexico. I had the good fortune to stumble across your blog just in time for the Chris Brown review. You said many a thing that will likely stay with me for the rest of my natural life, maybe even into the hereafter and for that I thank you. 'Touchdown' alone has added much improvement in my day-to-day relations with my co-workers. Much like Young Brown, I suspect that they too were raised on a strict diet of paint chips and Drano, and now I can finally put my thoughts of them into words. Thank you for making my job easier.

However, this is about Pac and Snoop, and Snoop's hair aside (sorry, it just ain't right, gimme the afro from Gin and Juice anyday), we're talkin great videos here.

  • Side note, anyone notice that the guy playing Puff was one of the imaginary players in Jay-Z's video of the same name?

Yes, the mush mouth asking President Carter what precisely is the difference between a 4.0 and a 4.6.

    For shame Jay, for shame.

    Respeck, respeck, homie!

I appreciate the love and knowing that I've helped in any way with your day-to-day makes the job worth it! Stay up, mane!

WHOA... There's a video for "Imaginary Player?"

I NEED TO FIND THAT! One of my favorite song!

You need it? I got it shiiiit!

...and yeah, "touchdown" is one of the slang terms I've come up with that I hope goes universal! I ain't fuckin with 40 Water on the slanguistics, but I'm just trynna contribulate, undersmell me, kemosabe?

  • September 9, 2005 1:10 PM
  • Dirty $$$ says...
  • Over-stenched indeed. I will do my part to help push that universally, starting on a grassroots 215th level. As for giving proper credit, well....

I will admit, you may have caught me on a technicality with the 'Imaginary Player' video. While technically a video, it is one of the parts that makes up the sum known as Streets Is Watching, BUT I swear I saw it on the MTV Jams channel one night, but with the occasional extreme penchance for brew and haze in the night hours, who knows what I really saw. I could have sat on the DVD remote for all I know.

At any rate, it is a video for the full song, and may very well be hiding somewhere on the net. I'll keep my eyes open.

  • September 9, 2005 1:50 PM
  • Ron Mexico says...
  • Okay! I was wondering if it was on that.

As a devout Jay-Z fan, I've been called out by some of the "real" heads for not having seen Streets Is Watchin. I only own the soundtrack... but my boy owns the DVD and he's bringin it over sometime next week... so maybe we can have a Streets Is Watchin special on Talkin Videos.

If the shit is even 1/4 as much humor as "Sunshine" we might have to make that happen.

  • September 9, 2005 2:22 PM

  • P.S.: MTV Jams is a great channel! Watch that shit!

  • I liked mtv jams until they showed juelz santana all damn day and they played a whole bunch of dipset songs and I got a headache

  • September 9, 2005 2:29 PM
  • Dirty $$$ says...
  • Oh my, I had never seen the 'Sunshine' video, and after just watching it, I can say that I think wish I never had.

I will say that anyone who can put that out, and still go on to have the career Jay has either has signed paperwork in the Devil's file cabinet, or really is the God MC.

There is really nowhere to begin and end with that video, I will say that rapping/dancing inside a damn rubix cube is so insane that it may have turned the corner into brilliance....just a thought though.

That being said, the Imaginary Player vid, along with the entirety of Streets Is Watching is intentionally humorous. I don't know if I can say the same for 'Sunshine'.

Anyway, this is a thread for Pac and Uncle Snoopy, I'm gonna reserve anymore Hova comments for the possible S.I.W. edition.
