A concise, to-the-point, and inexpensive video from a mainstream artist is a curveball in and of itself in this day and age. Great song, nice understated video with beautiful women, featuring Kanye the Flasher! Did anyone else notice the sketchy trench coat? They showed him from the back most of the time (bouncing off beat so there must be something else capturing his attention), followed by suspiciously wiping his sweat with a rag, and then standing there with his hands in his jacked up tight white pants and a big ol' smile. One of the nicest aspects of the Kanye West package is that he actually loves hip-hop. There are so many rappers out there right now that claim to be "hustlers" and not "rappers." I'm sure their insecurities about less than desirable lyrical skills are part of this rebranding, but it is still refreshing to have someone care so much about the art, when he could put some bullshit out and it would still sell. Kanye was so emotional during his interview with Sway on MTV that he looked like he could bust into tears at any moment. I think this is part of the reason that he gets so egotistical. It's because he really cares (and because he has a healthy amount of insecurities himself). Bottom line: he makes great songs that appeal to the hip-hop heads and the pop crowd at the same time and he really keeps things interesting.

Love or hate him, you have to respect him. The man makes quality music with quality rhymes (my best example would be diamonds...double meaning songs are always excellent) and he can say what he wants. Outkast for one. I'm always had a profound respect for artists who aren't afraid of the consequences of breaking out of the mold. Their music is also sick.
