"Yeah, I remember grindin' my feet in Del mama couch! He a rappin' ass nigga. He can afford another one!"

Ever had a bum-ass nigga crashed out, drooling on your (or your mama’s) couch? Ever feel like your homie lived at your place? If so, this week’s edition of “Throwback Thursday” is exclusively for YOU! If you haven’t, you probably just woke up on somebody’s couch this morning.
We’re taking it all the way back to a magical place called 1991. The Hieroglyphics crew’s marquee MC Del the Funkee Homosapien burst onto the scene with the classic LP “I Wish My Brother George Was Here.” After the relatively heady “Mistadobalina” single and video ran their course Del showed us a bit of the lighter side of his brain with one of my personal favorite videos, “Sleepin’ On My Couch.” [watch it now] Ironically, I got some negroes to spatula off of the upholstery as we speak... Be right back.
The great irony of this video comes in Del’s perpetual realization that his boys have to get up off the couch and do something with themselves, yet Deltron is 100% content with staying at his mama’s place himself. I’ll cut him some slack though, he was 18 at the time.
Del had some really well-done rap videos for 1991. While the videos appear as low-budget, the layout and prop spreads are actually quite elaborate. He also had some pretty good camera use. My favorite prop is the group of the Oakland Supremes he has rockin the purple shit and singing the hook. They were exceptional. This may have secretly inspired Cam'ron to be on television. His sisters and cousins did him well!
Speaking of relatives, peep Ice Cube and DJ Pooh among the passed out stoners on Del’s mama couch. As some of you already know, Cube and Del are cousins. I wonder what THOSE family reunions were like. 2 signed rappers at the same barbecue… Yet, everyone’s sweating O’Shea, while Del sits at a picnic table alone, high as fuck eating mashed potatoes.
I want to show you all something very important. Do you all see how ugly Del is? Pay particular attention to the fucked up hair. Looks like something shit on his head. The nigga looks like he went 12 rounds of Muy Thai with Tong Po (glass on the fists and everything). You do realize that this man had the backing of a major record label at age 18 with zero sex appeal, gangsta backstory or scandal, right? This is because in the magical land of 1991, niggas were able to secure recording contracts based on ACTUAL RAP TALENT.
Far removed from such nonsense and utopian idealism, it’s now a strange fantasy or escape to watch a video like this. I’d give anything for someone to come out with a record about being uncomfortable in their mama’s place. I mean for fuck’s sake he had a visual representation of niggas getting food in their tighty whiteys. The shit is classic. With the given round of jokes we’re going to have, let’s not forget to include a healthy dose of appreciation for a time forgotten.
Cali, stand up!

oh...
i know what you're talkin about...
"I STILL LIVE WITH MY MOMS!"
...not me...
Thirstin and Masta Fuol.
Del is a breathe of fresh air when your tired of the same old shit. I mean hes got classic songs, good beats, and lyricaly he's far above your average hip hop lyracist. I mean when you hear songs like Soopa Feen, Dr. Bombay, Sex for Money,If you Must and Pissin on your Steps it shows you a differant style of rap that relies on lyrical strength more than just a good beat. Bottom line the shit is hot and everyone should test it out
naw... del ain't for ERRBODY!
Yeah I aint mean he was FOR everyone I just meant everyone should check him out. The whole thing with the 4 dancers poppin in every so often was funky but I did like everything else about the video. cept the hair he was wearin of course and those nose rings I aint so keen on that. Thats just me tho.
I love it!
The chorus sounded to cheerful and happy even though it was saying get your lazy butt of my couch.
One of the girls looked like Teairra Mari' to me though. I liked his hair...it gave me throwback memories.
Del was my joint back in the day!! Thanks for the memories.
Del is the niggah. His whole west coast Heiroglyphics movement has gotten slept on for ova a decade. These niggahs got some classic music. I appreciate them like I do Pharcyde. There is some real west coast hiphop besides gangsta hiphop.'93 til babi.
