Both are prominently featured in the song and video combination for 50 Cent’s “Outta Control (Remix)” [watch it now] You’re aware of the concept of “proof of life,” well this one is an attempt at “proof of gangsta.”
Cardinal sin: If you have to tell us that you’re in the hood with a fake-ass Boost Mobile commercial in the beginning of your video… guess what, nigga… People aren’t going to believe you’re in the hood. The hood is not some magical place that you advertise. The hood is something you live. 50 should have kept it real and said “Yeah, I’m in the hood… My driver’s doing about 60, we’re behind bullet and bomb-proof tints and I’m on my way to Connecticut.” I truly believe M.O.P. was coming out of the corner store getting a breakfast 40oz, but 50… in the hood… eh, no. You CAN find him in the club though.

So yeah, while the song is your usual 50 Cent catchiness, the video is really nothing to watch more than once. Trust me, you’ve seen this before. In fact, you’ve seen this from 50 before. He made sure you saw the blazer, the t-shirt and the wifebeater all at once so there could be no complaints. He also formally introduces us to his new yes-men… two duos that should be respected, not serving as 50 Cent’s footstools before millions of 12-year olds who have never heard “How About Some Hardcore” or “Shook Ones.”

Become involved with the Shady/Aftermath army comes with a whole lot more than just Louis Vutton luggage; you inherit MAJOR beef. Dre's got his thing with Suge and Tha Row, 50 refuses to squash anything concerning Ja Rule and Murder Inc while Eminem rubs every pop singer, boy band and homosexual worldwide the wrong way. If you don't jump on a track and rep your mans and dem to the fullest when your henchman number gets called ala Tony Yayo on "I Run NY" or like Young Buck did when he STABBED A NIGGA for sucker-punching Dre at the Vibe Awards, you just might find yourself trying to salvage your career by spitting "300 Bars" of venom at your former homies. Oh, the video? You've seen it all before. It all goes down in some random club where seemingly only the blue or dark green lightbulbs work, bathing everyone in that color while smoke swirls in slow motion out of their faux-ice grills just like in Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode" and perfected in Game's "How We Do" videos. This club just happens to be the jiggiest SEGREGATED club in all of rapdom. 50 kicks his verse on the club's main level in the middle of the dancefloor and of course, by the bar with some fly white shorties hanging on his every mumble-mouthed syllabel, doing his best Usher in the "Yeah" video impression, rocking a button-down, sports jacket, fitted and jeans. We move to the Asian portion of the club for Havoc's "you can always count on this guy to be wack, please stick to producing" verse. One ho even has a folding ORIENTAL FAN in her hand to complete her traditional asian garb outfit. That shit is ridiculous. The only way this garbage would become even halfway cool is if she opened it up and started randomly slicing off bar patrons heads with it. It's off to Havana, Cuba apparently for Prodigy's room which looks like it was furnished with leftovers from 50's "P.I.M.P." set. I think ol' Curtis is even wearing the same suit! It doesn't really matter. The latinas are still salsa'in' or merenguein' or whatever it is they do in the background...to this song? Weird. Finally, all three men walk through a dank hallway lit only by lone lightbulbs swinging from the dripping ceiling under the club (OMG UNDERGROUND RAILROAD~!) to a room where all the black girls await. Finally. Damn. Even in our own video, they still put all the darkies in the basement. That's fucked up right there. G-Unit cameos abounds throughout the video: Banks, Buck, Yayo (doing his stupid dance and 50's doing it with him...stupendous) and M.O.P. are all here with DJ Whoo Kid (or is that Sha Money XL, I can't tell) spinnin' in the booth. Winky Wright shows up at the end to throw a few punches at the screen like all boxers do in any video they're in. Can't give them much more direction than that lest you run the risk of confusing them. Even the hardest nigga to ever come out of G-Unit, OLIVIA, gets to shine. No Marshall, however, so Havoc, Prodigy and Fitty are content to shuck and jive in front of a Big Brother/Kafka-esque black and white industrial painting of the good Doctor. One can only hope that he's not actually responsible for this sing-songy, syrupy-sweet club/radio trash. I shudder to think of how hard this track would've been had these guys hooked up just five or six years ago. The Mobb had just released what I consider their best work, "Murda Muzik" and Mr. Jackson had the world buzzing with his scathing single, "How to Rob." Now look at these monkeys. Neutered and in search of a payday. A perfect Jam of the Week for the braindead and equally testicle-free MTV crowd.

The Video wasn't really impressive. Had all of the things we see in most rap videos. Partying, drinks, and women. So it was average. The song however...Dat shyt is hot! You cant tell me that beat isnt fiyah. And Havoc delivered again even though his style is underated. P also had a nice lil verse. I found myself sayin "Im Young, Im Black, Im Rich...YES!" out of nowhere. Having the other G-Unit members is also a trademark for their videos. Even the commercial had Lloyd Banks in it.

A great leader must be visionary while not loosing sight of reality, focused on results but attentive to others, show courage at all times while admitting his fear, manage, motivate and develop his people, be respected and followed by this people, and be knowledgeable about the business. He must know the strength and weakness of his people and himself, and must be able to acquire resources that will make up for any weakness. Above all, a great leader must show result. The result of great leadership should be visible in the organization is doing in good times and in bad times, how motivated and successful are the people, and how much attention the competition is paying to the organization. It is against this background that I considered Curtis a great leader, and a superior leader to Dre, Em, Dre, and Diddy. Again, Nas (one of the greatest MC of all time) and the self-proclaimed leaders like Yukmouth, Jada, Camron, and Game do not count, so I’m not going to mention them in this context going forward. Keep in mind that being rich does not make you a good leader. Donald Trump is rich (now at least) but he is a terrible leader. His company has filed for bank 2-3 times, and only the surge in NYC real estate in the past year that has saved him. Damon Dash is another terrible leader that is rich. His people hates him, he piggy-banked (no pun intended) on Jay-Z’s success and the fact that in the early days there we no real business people in rap besides Puff and Russell Simons.
Evaluating the leadership of 50 Cent
VISION: What was the first thing 50 said on his first LP? He said “G-unit”. Not 50 not Shady not Aftermath. Yes, he supposedly rose to the top too first, but that is because unlike his competitors, he had a vision; to build G-Unit as a national/global brand. He stayed true to that vision, by taking almost $600K less per album to sign with Em and Dre as opposed to the other labels. Why? He knows Em had a national and broader audience, and that G-Unit is already known in the streets. In addition, he knows Dre is a great producer and that Dre can spread the G-Unit name in the West. Again, he signed Buck to build his rep in the South. In fact, he has been talking to Buck well before he signed with Em, and told him that when he pops, he will come looking for Buck. Can you see how Curtis translated vision into strategy and how he implements the strategy?
FOCUS: Curtis is also focused and is well respected by his people. Whether he is beefing with others or creating music for others or developing a clothing line, he never loses sight of the end-goal which is to deliver quality product and be successful with it. Let’s take “beef” with other artist for example. Whereas this guys drop everything they are doing and focus their energy on the beef, Curtis focuses on his work, and deals with the beef in the context of his work. Nas dissed 50 in August 2004, Ja/Jada/Fat Joe released “New York, New York” in later 2004. 50 waited until March 2005 to respond. Why, that was when it was convenient and appropriate for him. Releasing diss records don’t sell albums, but releasing good and compelling records on an album sells albums. So 50 created a diss record, put it on his album and sold it. He made “I run New York”, put it on a mixtape, and sold it.
RESPECT: On the respect issue, many will disagree with me. However, I say a lot of the people who supposedly does not respect people are the haters. Certainly Banks, Buck, Yayo, D-Tay, and Olivia respects 50, but some will say that is because they are on his label. Well, if MOP and Mobb Deep does not respect 50, why sign with him? Ok, someone said it was about the money, if that was the case, why did they not sign with Aftermath or Shady? After all Dre and Em have money and power at Interscope too. Further more, if you listen to their interviews you can easily conclude that most Southern artist like Luda, Lil Flip, TI, Usher, Lil John, Triville, Lil Scrappy, and Slim Thug respects 50. Busta, Snoop, Dre, and Em certainly respect 50. If Dre did not respect 50, he will not share executive producer credit with 50 on Game’s album or even cede the same to 50 on the Massacre (see the back of the CD). If fact Dre respect 50 enough to given him access to his entire library of beats- past and present. Finally, Jay-Z respects 50 enough to state that “Nas, Em, and 50” are the best lyricist today! Diddy respects 50 enough to put him on a record with Biggie.
MANAGING/MOTIVATING Others: Just look at the success of Banks, Bucks, Game, and singles from Yayo and Olivia, and it takes little to see that is a good manager. He turned all those guys into individual starts. They can all go do shows without 50, and the shows will sell. They are also all getting paid; all millionaires. How does 50’s leadership compared to Dre, Em, Jay-Z, Diddy, and Damon Dash?
Em and Dre are great musician and producer respectively, but they do not have the leadership skills of 50 Cent. One can argue that the leadership skills that I outlined above are subjective, but one cannot argue with the result. Curtis develop new and unknown artists into multi-platinum artists – Banks, Game, Buck, 50 Cent and (soon to be) Yayo. While managing these artists, Curtis is also signed to G-Unit as a solo artist. Compare G-Unit to Shady, and you will quickly see that Em is the only artist that most people care for on that label. Also, G-Unit is a global brand in a way that Shady cannot come close to at all. People in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe can identify the G-Unit brand. Compare G-Unit to Aftermath, and you will see that Dre never developed/turn any average talent into starts. Pac, Snoop, Em and 50 are (I did not include Game because, I believe G-Unit made Game and not Dre, even though we all give credit to Dre because we respect him), are all great talent that Dre produced for, but I do not believe he made them. Now before the morons on these forum tell me Game is this and that, keep in mind that Dre could not do shit with Game for more than 2 years while Game was signed to just Aftermath, but once he signed with G-Unit (yeah, check his album cover for an official record not some bullshit claim by Game that he was not signed to G-Unit) 50 made Game famous in only 8 months (just 8 fucking months! Damn 50 is a leader) including more than 6-months recording in 50's studio in Long Island. Spider Loc just signed with G-Unit last November, and he's slowly buzzing. Who knew him when he was signed to Death Row? Look at Buck, 6-7 years with Cash Money and UTP, what did he achieve? Nothing! Now 3 years with G-unit, he's a multi-platinum artist and can travel the whole North America headlining a show by himself. Fat Joe and Jadakiss can't even sell tour tickets like Buck Marley. Word!
I don’t think Dre actively managed and shape this people. This is evident in how Dre reacts to conflicts amongst his people: he basically does nothing, which is not a sign of a great leader. Remember the problems Pac had and his ultimate death, Snoop troubles with Death Row, and recently Game’s shenanigans. Perhaps Dre has grown and that is why Em and 50 are more successful than Pac and Snoop, but how then does one explains the Game’s idiosyncrasies? Just because Dre created great beats and is a good musician does not mean he is a great leader. Dre clicked with Em and Curtis because those guys are great talent. I don’t know any average talent that Dre has turned into a star. Yes, he is working with Busta and Eve now, but what has he done with them? Yet, Busta is one of the finest MC around. Blame it on label red tape or whatever, the fact is as a leader Dre should be able to navigate that label red tape and deliver for his artist. After all, Curtis and Em could.
Compare G-Unit to Bad Boy, and you will see that Biggie what the element that made Bad Boy hot. As soon as Biggie died, we all saw how all the artist left and feuded with Diddy. Not a sign of a good leader. As per Roc-a-Fella, I’ve always thought that Jay-Z made them hot, and the other artists were just also-rans. They could not even leverage Jay-Z’s popularity to develop the other artists. I admit that the jury is somewhat out on Jay-Z.
Game is falling into 50's trap. 50 isn't stupid, he's a smart business man and marketing genius. Game is now off his game, he so worried about G-Unit that he can't think straight. You're suppose to study your opponent before you strike. 50 is allowing Game, Jadakiss, Fat Joe, and Cassidy play themselves into a corner. G-Unit will strike when they're ready and really make these guys look silly. Tell me how you think Fat Joe feels today knowing that after 18 weeks 50 is still outselling him after 3 weeks? Game and D-Block are headed in the same direction. Stop the focus on 50 and make good music! While these guys are worrying about 50 and making dis records and shit, 50 is planning for a tour, movie, book and releasing Tony Yayo and Olivia. Tony Yayo's album is already on backorder. That means that they will fly off the shelves when it's released. D-Block keep making dis record after dis record after dis record, and what has it done. NOTHING! Really nothing! Jay Z, we all agree is one of the greatest rappers of all time. NAS's dis was louder and made much more noise than anything that D-Block and, or Game is doing. Ether was in heavy rotation on the radio and what did it do? What was the end result? Jay dropped another album and NAS fell off again. Jay selling records and touring, Nas at home with the wifey. Things got so bad for Nas that he signed with Murder Inc. of all places. At 50's status this stuff doesn't work.
50 is becoming an icon, a global icon and G-Unit is a brand. Before 2002, G-Unit was an just known in the street in in the mixtapes, but now they are known gloabally, and their audience spans all races, income level, and age. The reason why this happened is because there is something in their music for these varied groups of people. That does not mean they are commercial.
50's first big lable album is called 'Power of The Dollar', and I have it. The album has Destiny's Child on a record, and the song is very similar to Candy Shop song. The overall style and content of that album is not any different from what you hear of other G-Unit albums. Same shit, same Gangsta, same PIMP fetish, and same hard stuff.
