I usually don’t start off a review like this, but… What the FUCK?!
At first I thought Misdemeanor had gotten on the Bobby Brown diet, but we can breathe a sigh of relief. She still appears to be on the Pharaohe Monch. Pasting her head onto the body of a video dancer to enhance the effect of anticipated weight loss is just another in a long line of spectacular camera tricks we have come to expect from Missy Elliott. Her new video “Lose Control” [watch it now] features vocals and dance stylings from Ciara and Fatman Scoop.
I’m actually quite surprised that The Negro Channel has a video player… Okay, no I’m not. But I am surprised that it works. I couldn't lead you horses direcly to water this time, but click on Missy's face and you're in there!
Everyone thank the good folks over at BET for this video! Try not to click on the fucking KFC banner at the bottom! It’s hard, but with each other’s support we can do it. Look at the little kid in the banner! He can’t take his eyes off of the chicken bucket! Just like it said in the Encyclopedia!
The hooded faces scene at the beginning is very strange to me. All three of them look like they have liver disease. They chose a very strange foundation to cover themselves in. But then again, this is a Missy video. (This may be a recurring theme.)
Is it just me, or doesn’t Ciara look like a crunk-ass white girl painted caramel? Look at her nose and facial features. They are kinda on the Caucasian side of things, don’t you think? Regardless, while I’ll always knock her as a singer, the girl is one of the greatest dancers I’ve ever seen on TNC. She’s like Mr. Hoejangles! I wish they’d have let her do more.
I mean, seriously. When you feature Ciara on some shit, it ain’t because of her voice. Let’s be real. You need her to do that gliding shit in your video.
What are they doing with this underuse of Ciara anyway? Giving her acapellas? Hump-dancing in a colored firehouse in the 40s? Missy, are you okay? Eat something, girl!
In the next shot we find them lined up in front of a Hummer, looking like a damn Fatty Koo tryout. 20 applicants. Only 4 can make the cut for the KFC ad! Who will they be? Send BET your online vote... So they can throw them away just like your 106 and Park votes.
Somebody needs to go ahead and wife Missy already. I thought Timbaland was going to do it, but I was wrong. Of course people should marry for all of the right reasons, but there was time to do that with Missy in the 90s. Now that she’s losing weight at such a drastic pace, I predict that someone’s going to come out of the woodwork and Star Jones that ass.
For such a capricious video, it’s actually nothing new for the Missy fans. This is pretty much exactly what we’ve come to expect from the visual representations of her songs. I don’t think her fans will be disappointed. Of course, I’m disappointed. What happened to them little girls she used to have cripwalking in her videos? Did the Cs finally find out where they live? Are they all grown up now? They were the best part of her last set of videos.
When did Fatman Scoop become an acceptable featured artist? I love Scoop, and I’m glad he’s making moves, but at this rate, the dude’s gonna have an album of his own. He already pulled a Janet Jackson by showing the world his tit-tays at the BET awards. At this point he’s just setting the table. You watch. There will be a full length LP featuring collaborations with everyone from Missy to Mariah to Modest Mouse.

I'm probably the only Black person who usually doesn't like Missy videos. They all seemed the same to me- a montage of shots with goofy special effects.
I like vids that tell stories instead.
And I like this latest from Missy video because it seems to be showing how the dancing these Black kids do in college relates to the dancing Black people did in the way old days.
Isn't this video a lil old for the hatred to come anymore? Sometimes people have a desire to talk shyt so much that they have to reach into a goodie bag of videos and start spewing out generic ass disses. Seriously, I have yet to read a serious criticism of the video or the song. Instead you just talk about irrelevant details like the fact that Fat man scoop is a featured artist. Ciara and fat man scoop add to the song in a seamless manner that is near-perfect; they compliment missy and the beat very well. Truth be told, this song was very well designed and carried out. And Missy's videos are always above par when compared to almost every other rap video ever made. This is no exception. Missy dares to be different, and it almost always pays off for her. She may not be the greatest rapper in town, but she may be the greatest entertainer currently out. Dont hate the great.

Like the author of the article said, her "weirdness" has become repetitive. Yeah, she released "Work It" a couple of years back, and we were all taken aback, but now, it seems as if every video is like that. Damn Missy. Shock me. Make a video that makes sense.
Once again, I think I will have to reiterate that an idea that is "different" from everything else isn't neccessarily "good", or even worthy of execution.
Needless to say, Missy (and Dave Mayers)sure do know how to capture one's attention. This seems to be her intent now. She has found a formula and she has stuck to it. There is a thin line between creativity and, for lack of a better word, bullshit. When Missy first started making videos, she was trying to be creative by doing something different and entertaining. Now she is recycling her old ideas for the sake of sales.
Although I do love Missy tremendously, her recent works haven't caught my attention.
Overall, this video is interesting to watch, but it isn't the "THRILLER" of our time.

Missy's head on the dancers body is the worst cut and paste job since they put Cee lo's head on the little boy in "They Dont Dance No Mo". I was fooled for about 10 seconds. What was the purpose, are you ashamed of your body after you worked so hard on it. For better or worse she could have done that part herself. Even though she lost weight, it lookes like she buys the same size clothes. We all say Missy is so innovative, but music is like fashion. Every old trend gets reincorperated and becomes hot again. She takes old school type breakbeats and tweaks it a little. Personally I like my Afrika Bambatta without Ciara's so called singing. She needs to pop her ass on box Chevys thats all she is good for, and cover her in baby oil for an even better visual. If the music doesn't work out she easily feature at Magic City. Ciara makes Ashanti look like Celine Dion. This tip machine should put her gyroscopic pelvis to better use, some one get this broad some clear heels, STaT! Fatman Scoop, he's been grinding for years so he should get a little shine. Do Dave and Missy put the "fairy dust" on their blunts when they come up with these treatments cause they get more unorthodox with each album. I understands she wants to be different, but just cause it's abstract doesn't make it artistic.
