I leave you all for the weekend with a new video from my favorite Diplomat, Joseph “Jimmy” Jones. His newest offering is a split. The good folks at Blastro have hooked us up with the uncensored version of “Baby Girl/G’s Up” [watch it now] If you saw the Dipset in London video, I’d like to think of this video picking up from there. Jim Jones is pure entertainment. I’m just not quite sure why.
This nigga should have his own reality show. I would DV-R “Being Jim Jones” in a millisecond!
The giant portrait of himself over the bed with 3 women in it is quite grandiose, but then again, it wouldn’t be a diplomats video if it wasn’t completely ridiculous, now would it?
Getting out of the bed and immediately reading a book entitled “Get Stoned and Read This Book” is genius. The implications are incredible. He’s either still high from the night before or literally got lifted quickly before picking up his favorite reader.
A video isn’t a video without a car shot. The drop top with the PCP smoke is great. He’s seconds out of the brownstone and I bet his “bitches” miss his thug lovin already.
The video does its best to bring to life possibly the worst chorus ever. After the girl says “yes” to wanting to be down with the Dipset Ostrich Gang, she is informed that she’d have to get her lips wet. That sounds like a prison proposition to me.
He then explains to her the benefits of rolling with the Dips. Said benefits include but are not limited to: being seen with dudes who have money; riding around Harlem in a CAR, not the M2 bus; never having to worry about not having enough money to eat all the scrimps you want at the fish market on 140th and 7th.
After mulling it over for a second, she agrees to getting her lips wet, and the promise of being a side piece to an already peripheral character in the Dipset ghetto oligarchy. That’s right… The visual representation of the chorus is executed by a random video ho and Jimmy’s personal manufactured Spliff Starr.
Once again, the hardest-looking person in the video is Jazzy Joyce. While we don’t have the most fearsome thugs in this anthem, we DO have some pretty convincing fiends.
After we watch Jimmy parade around in a leather vest like John Travolta in Grease, we are abruptly switched to the “G’s Up [Hoes Down]” segment of our 2-for-1. The switch… also, very Dipset with a grandiose intro.
The rest of the video is your generic dark crew shot with Jones rhyming straight up into the camera. Jones is usually good for a well-delivered, impressive line. “Majority time, I’m trynna stay above the poverty line./ That’s a major part of my grind.”
I have one question today. Who are the guys in the suits? Are they his legal team? His parents? Bill collectors? Someone explain.

For what it chooses to represent and what it probably cost, this is a pretty good video. You can tell that some thought and effort went into its creation. Jim Jones has always been my dark horse selection for “Best Diplomat.” While he’s not the lyricist Cam or Santana are, he exhibits the most character and depth when he shows effort.
I was highly disappointed by “On My Way To Church.” So far this video previews 2 songs better than any song on his first album not named “Certified Gangstaz.” Hopefully he keeps the new LP as grimy as G’s Up and uses more brain power because the first one had me “On My Way To The Dollar Rack Drop-Off.”

Amazingly enough, I'm sure he actually spends time to look like that--enough time to put the #2 guard on his electric trimmer for that oh-not-so-close shave, and to get his eyes red like that probably takes 5 minutes tops--enough time to roll a doobie and light up. Jay-Z retired after the Black Album, which came out in late 2003. Ether hit him in 2001. He definitely took one, but didn't retire right afterwards and still had something to say to Nas with SuperUgly and BP2. If anything, the real result of that battle was that he helped Nas get his name back on people's tongues, which it hadn't been for a while. 50 gives Jay props if anything, at least respecting his hustle and emulating a lot of things after him (smart). I'm from Atlanta, so when I got to New York I was naturally disappointed with all the airplay Dipset was getting. To my ears, it was beyond horrible, but I didn't dismiss them - shit, there's gotta be a reason they're getting this much airplay. So I decided to read some shit about them, to maybe better understand their music - and I've never been more apalled by an artist in my life (I'm primarily talking about Jim Jones)
Cam and some other members may be alright as artists, but the "Dipset Movement" is the most demented shit I've heard of. The idea is actually kind of virtuous, where it seeks to empower and enfranchise fellow blacks; however, the implementation and the actions of Jim Jones are disguisting. He was fronting in an XXL interview all this shit about Dipset and how for example that's why he's got "Sizzurp" cognac - how that shit employs 100 people in 2 distilleries. And then when the XXL reporter asked him how employing 100 people in France helps his people, he gave the most unintelligent and unarticulate answer I've ever read.
In conclusion Jim Jones is an insencere idiot and, as such, I can't listen to his horrible brand of hip hop. Beyond the childish production, better suited for early 2000's, he is not an artist. He is an unintelligent, unaware moron who does a couple of things well (i.e. business) - morality, sincerity, music and keeping it real, he doesn't.
