Dizzee Rascal - "Dreams"

I wonder how many videos we'll do entitled "Dreams"
Today we go overseas to show a little love to the newest video from UK mainstay Dizzee Rascal. His newest visual composition “Dreams” [watch it now] presents a children’s puppet show starring… himself! In the context of a world overtaken by Crank Yanking and crass behaviour, (peep the UK spelling) Dizzee uses puppets in a manner that deviates from the norm.
At first I thought I was watching a Roots Manuva video. It was surely along his vibe, but Roots would have made it a little darker and a lot more cynical.
Starting off with a typical PBS or BBC children’s show host-type of lady playing the piano, Dizzee is summoned from his miniature box to talk to the children. Devoid of an Eminem-like twist, Dizzee sheds his carboard prison and talks to us, the children, about our dreams.
In structure and storyline, the video is highly reminiscent of Nas’ “I Can.” It’s motivational and inspirational... Delicious and nutritious, like breakfast cereal!
Of course, unlike your favorite children’s show, the Dizzee Rascal show features police brutality, teenage parents, hard times and tribulations.
On that note, the puppet police brutality is excellent! There’s nightsticking and kicking of the black puppets. It’s comical to watch, but as it sets in, it gets a little uneasy when you think of the complex societal scourge that the puppets, in all their innocent simplicity, represent.
Oh yeah, there are also breakdancing puppets! They’re pretty dope too!
The black puppet parents seem to be pushing white babies. Was he illustrating the problem of black nannies raising someone else’s kids and then having to go home and find the time to raise their own? Or was he breaking down the barriers of race in a Sesame Street kind of way?
Wait... I take that back… Sesame Street kept the races nice and separate. Taking place in the barrio, you knew which puppets where Puerto Ricans and shit. They had little B5 lookin motherfuckers talkin to Elmo about cocquitos. Statement recanted.
For his next video, he should supplant Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder by doing Charlie and the Extra Chocolate Factory. Shit… Let Charlie Murphy play Charlie.
Seriously though, I love this video. I think it’s worth a look. Dizzee gives a breath of fresh air not just by straying from the norm of killing, pimping, stunting and dealing in his message, but by giving us a clever, heartfelt and fun music video.

Oh yeah, this still doesn’t make me like “Fix Up, Look Sharp.” I also still think he sounds funny… and not just because he’s from England.

anyway dizzee rascal has a different kind of ear to other producers. his music has to grow on you. he pushes boundries like timberland but doesnt have the skill to do it with every track.
dude has got mad talent and when they play fix up, look sharp in the club they go crazy.

First of all Dizzee is the best thing to happen to the urban/grime music scene and the whole UK. im not a stan but u have to give credit were credit is due.
