Anyway... Today’s "Throwback Thursday" selection comes from the very bowels of Blastro-dom. But I really wouldn’t have it any other way. “I’m A Rida” [watch it now] by Preny Mo is one of those songs we all missed. Luckily you have someone like me to put you on to the ridiculous shit you've passed over. Tsk tsk.
I selected this one because while it’s from 2000, it truly looks like a late-80s throwback. B5 must have made it 80s week or something.
This shit looks like a “Crack is Wack” rap commercial from 1988. Actually, it looks like a “Crack is Wack” commercial reversed. Let’s picture it… 2 rappers in janky drop-tops rolling through graffiti-covered areas saying "crack is great" and enjoying the benefits of the drug game instead of denouncing its ills and place as scourge of the community! Oh wait… 90% of rappers in the mainstream already do that. Nevermind.
The video looks and sounds like a McDowell’s commercial… I want to remix the video and have someone to say: “McDowell’s… I’m lovin’ it!” Don’t forget to cop their latest combo, the McForty (super-size from Blunt Wraps to Dutchmasters for 39 cents more).
I can’t really rib on them for unoriginality or anything like that in the video. I don’t think much should be expected from Preny Hardaway and his crew of flunkies.
I thought this was going to be a rap song when I clicked on the link. This shit sounds like a straight-up country song. “I’m A RIIIIIDAAAAH!” *fiddle playing* He should have had Haystak do a cameo in this shit. I was sincerely disappointed not to see any line-dancing by the time this video was said and done.
You shouldn’t be embarrassed if you too thought “Keepin’ It Real” was just their corny slogan… Nope… it’s actually the name of their RECORD LABEL! This couldn’t be any sadder.
Of course, what would an SOHH review be without clowning a little bit on the objectified? I wanted to reach out and embrace all of my brainwashed sisters tricked into doing this video. You HAVE to think this nigga is going somewhere if you dress up like that, get on a motorcyle and do the Black-girl-Macarena. I love a nice ass, but badonkadonk alone does not a fine-looking woman make.
Verdict: I’m A Rida… More like I’m A Bum-Ass! This is the kind of video that makes my evening when I stumble on it. Everyone thank Blastro. They really come through if you work the archive! Today is most definitely an alley-oop to my all-stars! I expect greatness from you guys today. It’s a shame, these dudes were able to recreate 1989 in this video, with zero style, charisma, skill or heart. They look like they should have been doin some “Whoomp There It Is” or some corny shit like that. At least then Preny Mo would have had a hit record to go with this debacle.

1) I hope that the chick seen with the bandana on her head, grinding against the car, was swiftly apprehended after the first airing of this video and immediately returned to the zoo.
2) Was this video what the BAHA MEN were watching when they wrote "Who Let The Dogs Out", because that's all I kept wondering as I painfully watched these girls humping the bikes. (They could have at least pretended to be enjoying it. Instead all I saw was suppressed laughter and cheeks blushed with shame and embarrassment.)
