Mighty Casey - "Black Rapping School"

With so much talk about UnCut videos lately, I want to take this weekend to give a little shine to an original UnCut legend. That man is none other than Boston-bred, Columbia University-educated Mighty Casey!
Known for his Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five parody classic “White Girls,” Mighty Casey returns to the video scene with “Black Rapping School,” [watch it now] a hilarious, low-budget satire denouncing the ills of rap labels and their revolving door of signees programmed to say whatever will help propagate the negativity that drives the industry. (whew… that was a lot.)
In other words: You wanna be a rapper? He’ll show you how to do this, sonnnn!
Mighty Casey, the instructor at the Black Rapping School, sarcastically schools black youths to the media game. He prepares them for the world of mainstream rap by providing them with four of the industry’s major icons: champagne bottles, assault weapons, jewelry and hoes. With his teacher’s assistant hoes securely on his lap, and camcorder secured to the tripod, he takes this one to church… I mean… school.
Mighty Casey himself is a terrible rapper. While most people would consider this a problem, Casey appears to have embraced the notion and has made it work for him. No one cared that his flow sounds like he’s slightly retarded or is actively swallowing his tongue when he dropped “White Girls.” They just nodded along and laughed. This is because Mighty Casey is smarter than you! His seemingly irreparable flow is almost always accompanied by comedic lyrics and videos that seem to parody both his subject and himself simultaneously. See… thems what we call mind games!
Upon first glance, you see a terrible video that looks like it cost under $20 dollars to shoot, starring a dude who looks, acts and sounds like a light-skinned Biz Markie on Dick Gregory shakes, waving plastic firearms and getting lapdances in a classroom in a school he probably works at as a substitute teacher.
All of the above very well may be true, but if you delve beneath the surface a bit, you find a parody so ridiculous that it almost distracts you from the seriousness of what he’s talking about.
While the Black Rapping School doesn’t really exist physically, it’s a school of thought that major labels have perpetuated. Unfortunately, it causes rappers and listeners alike to buy into fantasies and exaggerations of actual street life that accentuate the wrong parts of a picture that DOES need to be painted. This imitation of life (great movie, by the way) has created a cycle of confusion that leaves us searching for the real problem and arguing on message boards and blogs (cough cough).
Check this one out for yourself and, instead of JUST dropping the hate… give it the old Psych 101. If you let this one sink in… it could do a little more than just make you chuckle. Props and respect to Mighty Casey! You a genius, nigga!…
Even if you do look like Pharaohe Monch on the short yellow bus.
