Following the footsteps of Jermaine Dupri, Master P and other mid-90s moguls preying on children for commercial success, Puffy brings us another group of young boys from the south whose dance stylings outweigh their singing abilities. Today’s video is “You Got Me” [watch it now] and it comes from none other than B5, Puff Daddy’s attempt at reincarnating DeBarge.
In light of the ongoing Pretty Ricky saga… one might ask: “Ron, why would you do another boy band video?”
To which my response might be: “I dunno… umm… Because it’s Wednesday and I don’t give a fuck?”
20 years removed from “Who’s Johnny?” we have a chance to short circuit ourselves once again. B5 aliiiive! (oh, y'all are too young to get that joke!)
Anyway, let’s not get it twisted. Much like now-defunct B2K, the brothers Breeding can dance their asses off! Their major distinction from the “Uh Huh” boys is that their approach is much more wholesome. None of the boys are naked. They don’t make any sexually charged gyrations. And the song is more conducive to pre-teen puppy love than it is to raw dog sex by the gym lockers.
While I seem to understand their approach, what I don't understand is why they used Bobby Brown’s video set for “Every Little Step.” If they were gonna do that shit, they should have ditched the Archie jackets and thrown some suspenders on these kids! One of them already has the haircut.
Puffy said "FUCK 112! I got the Puerto Rican N’SYNC!" He then tracked their vocals, let them do a dance video and pasted 112’s old background vocals under it. He got these poor kids runnin around like the Half-Black-street Boys.
As much as I want to hate, I keep finding shit about this video that makes me smile and laugh. They have a Bone Thug in the group, man! Much props to the Layzie look-alike for the “More charm than Mike Seaver” line. He wasn’t even born when Growing Pains was cancelled, but that’s a great reference. It’s also probably something Puffy said to him, if not wrote for him in the verse.
Don’t you just love it when they put 30-year-old womenses in videos with 15-year-old boys? Yet they ready to crucify R. Kelly (who IS nasty… I’m not defending him, just pointing out some hypocrisy. Nice double-standard!)
Speaking of age discrepancies, one of these niggas is CLEARLY too old to be in this group! He looks about 26 years old. You know who I’m talking about. The 6’7” one with the dry-ass S-curl!
Don’t they also look like a ghetto-ass Menudo, complete with my favorite group member… their own version of little Ricky Martin?
The little one ain’t even interested in the grown-ass woman they got him next to. He’s playing his PSP trying to show her the 3-hit combo he just executed! He’s that dude! I hope this Bad Boy experience doesn't fuck him up (like it has everyone else who has ever signed with Puffy)!
They scared the shit out of me! How they just drag the little one off at the end of the video? Did he have a heart attack after his 913th backflip? Maybe he got a contact high from some Bobby Brown rock smoke in the background.
Did Puffy say “The Empire Strikes Back?!” at the beginning of the video? Man, the empire is fuckin' DONE! These kids are going to grow up before his eyes. They ain’t gonna make him “still on top” by 2007. (He needs another Biggie IMMEDIATELY to make good on that promise.) However, this is obviously who Puffy put Making Da Band 2 on hold for:
“Sorry, Fred… Chopper… Sara… I got these little kids from Florida… They gonna sing and dance for me. I’m signing Ness and Babs solo, but if you wanna use the studio you gonna have to go up by Fordham Road and bring me back some Cambodian breastmilks!”
I was a fan of this video until the end when they walked off with arms around one another like an 80s sitcom intro. It looks like the beginning of “The Hogan Family” or some shit. All that’s missing is their mama. Speaking of their mama… Did you guys notice that Puffy makes NO appearance in this video? Halle-fuckin’-lujah. Maybe these kids DO stand a chance!
I tell you what this shit is highly entertaining, if nothing else… Especially if you like Darrin’s Dance Grooves executed properly! If you haven't seen this video yet, it just might brighten your day. It's Wednesday, I know you need it.

I write comedic reviews of music videos for a living. This is not a "pick on B5" site. The same thing happened with little girls when I did a Pretty Ricky video.
You should look past your schoolgirl crushes and understand that this is all in good fun and that no one, especially myself, wishes any ill will on B5.
Patrickshotgirl did a lot of talking about who I haven't made jokes about. Unfortunately, I didn't have this job in time to review Jackson 5 and Mario.
Had you looked around the site, and not just at the page of the boys you love, you would realize we make jokes about every music video that comes out. Not in spite, hatred or jealousy. You should think about why... and if you don't come up with a good idea yourselves, I suggest you read other reviews and my mailbag posts.

To be perfectly honest, one of the members of B5 is tooooo old to be in the group. No, I'm not hating, because ironically, I think he's the hottest-he just should go solo or something and let the minors stay together. I think B5 is one of those groups composed of little kids, who should be in elementary school, making sweet innocent songs from the 80's. But don't get me wrong- I believe these boys are very talented and they have great dancing moves, their MUSIC should just be better and more "updated." Basically, if they didn't sing old songs and the oldest one(SEXXY) went solo or just let the minors stay in the group by themselves, there would be nothing wrong with B5 because the boys are very talented and have great voices, and that is rare to find in a group in which they are all related.
