Eminem - "Ass Like That"

From listening carefully to his albums you should be able to understand two things about Eminem:
1. Eminem is a great lyricist.
2. Marshall Mathers is a crazy, crazy bastard.
When his newest album “Encore” was released, if you asked me which songs would make video singles, I probably would have answered “Definitely not ‘Ass Like That.’” Having followed Eminem’s career however, I should have known better as “Ass Like That” [watch it now] is, in fact, his newest single and video offering.
The video begins with a red carpet scene with an assload of people getting out of the same limo. I could count at least five D-12 members and various entourage-folk, including security and hoes before Eminem emerges onto the scene. I don’t know what your experience was like, but even the poor kids wouldn’t go more than 8-deep in a limo to my high school prom.
What then ensues is the usual red carpet interview scene, where we are quickly introduced to the video’s conceit. Trying to answer questions from news media, Eminem is constantly interrupted by spiteful remarks from Triumph the Insult Comedy Dog (who shits on Em’ something nice). Of course, unable to come up with a retort, Eminem handles his beef the Michigan way by beating the shit out of Triumph’s owner and taking the puppet from his hand.
Inspired by watching a team of random booty dancers jiggle their jelly on the red carpet for no reason, Eminem gives us a strange display of his own id run amok. The rest of the video oscillates back and forth between Em’ doing stupid shit both in real life and in a special episode of “Crank Yankers,” as Triumph’s puppeteer.
The following should come as no surprise: Being chased the whole time by a cop who looks eerily like Samuel L. Jackson (mmm-mmmm, BITCH!), Eminem/Triumph takes stabs at R. Kelly, Pee Wee Herman and Michael Jackson by performing a series of lewd sexual acts (some of them with minors). He also laments how Hillary Duff, Jojo, and the Olsen Twins are too young to be making his “slinky go da-doing doing dooiiiiiingggg.”
Only the bleached-blonde, blue-eyed menace can get away with shit like this. I for one would LOVE to see the media backlash of a 32-year old black gangsta rapper, say… DMX, talking about how Jojo and Hillary Duff give him a boner. The nigga would be lynched live on MTV in a 1-hour special hosted by Quddus (their cabin boy).
Apparently, Eminem has already given up on the idea of the masses truly understanding his work and has resorted to making songs like this into his primary mainstream representation. I guess the permanent black cloud of controversy that follows him is his best friend (as far as record sales go, anyway.) Watch this crazy-ass video for yourself. Let me know what you make of it.

Viva Senor Mexico!!! The Quiddus cabin boy line...funny...why? Because it is true. As far as Em's videos go, a review of them can go either way because we expect the unexpected from him. But on another note, I think you are correct in saying that if DMX had said anything like Em had, it would be ugly. How about we save the high grade octane for someone like Petey Pablo. I know people may ask why, but why not?

I give Em, Game, 50, and even Pac credit for the fact that they all understand the power of controversy. Pac was the king of getting peoples attention, and everyone else tries to imitate that. If you get enough attention, it doesn't matter if your skills are average (hear that 50?). Your sales are gonna be up there. Someone needs to tell these other emcees to study marketing as much as they study emceeing.

He NEVER said "the N word", what he did say though was that he advises all guys to stay away from black women. And if you actually knew what you were talkin about then you'd know that that wasn't a serious track meant to ever be released, it was just him venting his emotion and happened to record it. Eminem's fire inside has died and we all need to realize this. He used to have raw and interesting raps on his first and sophmore album. Ever since the Eminem Show however he has gone down hill and I don't think anything could be worse than Encore. What was he thinking when he realesed that garbage? What gets me the most is that people still think he's a great MC. Encore has an overall rating of 5 stars on amazon.com and that's just ridiculous. Eminem is no longer Hip-Hop. Ass like that along with the other songs on Encore are a joke (as well as stupid). And also I don't see why Eminem is trying to make people laugh so much. I didn't buy his album because I thought it was going to be funny. I bought his album because I thought it would have killer lyrics with a matching beat. The beat is on point for most of the album but c'mon the lyrics?? If I wanted to laugh I wouldve bought a comedy album, not a rap album. All eminem is trying to do is either be funny or be a loving father and honestly I don't like either side of him. I like his alias Slim Shady and Slim clearly is no longer a part of eminem anymore. Rather than saying shit like "You beef with me, I'ma even the score equally / Take you on Jerry Springer and beat your ass legally.//" Thats a killer line and that song Role Model is true unique hip hop. Nowadays he actually SINGS (Hailie's Song, Mockingbird) and has turned into a complete mockery of hip hop. Eminem used to be known as the Great White Hope. Now hes just acting unintelligent and uncreative.

I agree that Marshall Mathers was his best, but you have to see the background behind it, he was struggling up and coming artist, so all he had to talk about was issues. Now he is more settled and his troupe of D12 is more settled too. So I think he now is able to experiment and have fun. Ass like that is a SARCASTIC play. I really like the way he makes fun of everybody. I think you have to take music lightly, his branding of music is now turning more towards fun. Another example is D12 World's 'Name of my band' that was another great sarcastic song.. Even in Encore he has quite a few sarcastic songs and homophobic ones too. The great part is they are very light, instead of being mud deep in issues of a ghetto.
