C-Murder feat. B.G. - "Y'all Heard Of Me"

c-murder

“Now all y’all done heard of me. I’m Ronnie Mexxx./
I done said thangs them bitch niggas scared ‘ta.”

Sorry… I had to.

Today’s selection is the re-edit and re-issue of C-Murder’s new video from lockdown “Y’all Heard Of Me” [watch it now]. Featuring fellow N.O. legend B.G. aka B-Gizzle (his official artist name), a man who is no stranger to publication of his shortcomings, this video provides an interesting parallel between the streets of New Orleans and the prisons many of their residents find themselves locked inside.

First of all... What the fuck is up with all these New Orleans rappers that need the support of the public? Check this out: Free C-Murder; Free Mac; Free Mystikal (okay, maybe Mystikal needs to chill there for a while); Soulja Slim is killed shortly after his release from prison; B.G. is fresh out of the methadone clinic; and Magic signed with Roy Jones, jr. Damn, if you live in New Orleans, don’t become a rapper! It does not look good out there right now! Sell rocks or something. The prospects there are a lot better. I'd hate to see any more young brothers with bright futures signing with Master P.

Does Master P even have a label anymore? I lose track. There have been about 4 “No Limits” in the past year and a half, and this new C-Murder record is under the TRU Records/Koch imprint.

The video itself is pretty well done, considering the star is currently in a cell the size of a medium closet. The shots of the street are gritty and powerful. You can’t help but shoot the hood in N.O. that way. Even the Cash Money party videos make niggas say “Damn! I don’t wanna live there!” More powerful than this is that there are some shots of the outside of the prison where C-Murder is being held and you can’t quite immediately tell if it’s a jail or a housing project. That Magnolia and Calliope shit makes the projects in NY look like luxury high-rises.

The inside-the-cell shots of C-Murder are slick, given the circumstance. The overall composition makes me feel like I’m watching CB4. Chris Rock would be proud. Essentially, we have a rapper, actually incarcerated, rapping about doing all kinds of foul shit that… well… generally gets you incarcerated. Not the kind of shit that’s going to exactly help the appeal process. Considering he's a year or so into a life sentence, C-Murder should have recorded his first Sesame Street song behind those walls. He’s already been on that level lyrically for 10 years now.

While horrible lyrics are pretty much a given for a C-Murder track, B.G.’s contribution is also surprisingly lazy, even by his own heroin-injected standards. Here we are with one of the dopest beats either of them have ever rapped on, a dude who should be hungry as fuck from being in prison (or at least hungry to fuck…-- Monica), and another rapper who is supposedly no longer riding the H-train, yet all he can come up with is a chorus that doesn’t even rhyme. At least C-Murder tries by rhyming “heard of” with, well… “heard of.” To B-Gizzle’s credit, he does look like he’s gained some weight, which is a good thing. He no longer looks like a Mighty Morphine Power Ranger, but this is a song and a rap video not a “Say No To Drugs” ad.

Ironically, the video contains clips of various intelligent-sounding white people (possibly his defense team) explaining that C-Murder was convicted before his trial even began. Their argument is that because of his rap alias, the judicial system was unable to provide a fair and impartial handling of his trial. However true this may be, songs like this don’t help. The chorus includes such thuggish braggadocio as “Now I done sold rocks, robbed blocks, murked clowns and done time./ I’m a fool boy. I’m willin’ to die for mine.” While it’s not admissible in a court room, it’s unfortunately the type of defiant attitude that may get your parole denied one day.

B.G. is just as wild for joining in. Rest in peace to Soulja Slim, but I’m not sure this is the kind of tribute he needs. B.G. shoulda kept it real. If he wanted to show us he’s a “foolione” he should have gone ahead and said something to the effect of: “Now I done shared needles, sipped drank, blacked out enough times./ I’m a Hot Boy! I shoot that fire sometimes.”

You can watch this enigmatic production for yourself here. All jokes aside, these are two rappers I enjoy greatly for a slew of reasons. This one's got a dope beat, and is well-put together video with a documentary feel. Give it a spin. Rest in peace Soulja Slim! Calliope! Magnolia! Throw ya hands up!

Remember, tomorrow is "Throwback Thursday." Check me out tomorrow for another classic. You know I got you!

  • I used to like B.G., but I never have been or will be a fan of No Limit. Because, I used to love gangsta rap, and all that hard talk about who they'll lay out, how much crack they've sold, the bitches they've got, and I was one of those people who would argue to the death that gangsta rap doesn't effect a person's view of things. Until I got involved with some things that, at the time, I had thought were gonna be "tight". If you've ever witnessed a friend's life get taken over some stupid shit, then you might understand where I'm coming from. Then I sat down and actually listened to what they were saying, and I realized that I had been wrong all along. This kind of music really does glorify all the shit they claim it does, its just that many hip hop fans are too dense to realize that the ones who are wrong might be themselves. I don't feel like they really have that much talent if they must resort to that subject matter to sell records. And then it becomes a situation where they don't give a damn about the music, and what kind of effect it has on people, all they care about is getting more money(50 cent is a prime example). If anything can bring down the greatest culture alive, its gangsta rap.

And, please, nobody tell me to quit playa hatin, or any bullshit like that. Look past the end of your nose for once, and try to understand your own thought process before you come criticizing me, this is just my opinion.

  • If you are not from New Orleans a lot of things will never make sense to you when hear music from New Orleans. It's like Lil' Wayne said in Bring it Back, " we do our own thing, we don't act like yall." Unfortunately death and in particular murder is a part of the culture of New Orleans. When people die we have a wild ass party in the street commonly known as a "Second Line" and the job situation is so bad that being the local d-boy IS the best paying job, real talk. So New Orleans Gangsta rap is both destructive and honest because it pretty much sums up the attitutde and atmosphere of life in the Big Easy. Case in point, there where 5 murders in 27 hours yesterday, this does not alarm anyone in New Orleans because crime and murder and racism are the norm. Until the people stand up and change there is nothing else that can shoulder the blame for violence in New Orleans. The people have to take responsibility for themselves and stop trying to be the next Birdman and do something with there life other become a stat on the evening news. One Love

  • I truely believe America and it's Government is failing to address violence among young black people.I know there is a certain resposibility in the parenting skills of people, but this country has to take some responsibility as well.African American youth are not the nasty, wild, violent, aggressive humans the media make them out to be. This country has made black kids into what they are,by not giving them the same type of "concern" and "care" as white youth. Everybody should feel important regradless if they have one parent or two or if they are dark skinned or white skinned.America has to show some compassion and then they will see the Bad Attitude turn into Better Attitudes the murder of one another turn into less murders.I still don't think black youth believe they are equal to white youth. As much as America says it is a fair country.C- Murder and the young man who was killed are a perfect example of America's lack of care.If Murder is the number 1# cause of death amoung young black men then it is clear as day that Gangsta Rap should not be marketed in that community.

  • Don't stereo-type people from New Orleans. Most of y'all have never been here and are scared to come and yet you can sit behind a computer screen and talk shit about a situation that you know nothing about. Yes crime is a problem we have in our city but we are a city filled with bright and wonderfully odd people. What you see on TV is just is just on side of what we are. Most of that titty flashing is done by the girls gone wild whores who come here from their boring lives in the midwest looking for some action and the first thing people ask about when they get here is "Do you know where the Nolia is?" and "Do you know Master P". You are intrigued by this violance because most of the record sales that New Orleans artist gain comes from out of towners. So if you don't have the balls to live here you sure don't have the right to speak on our living situation Pussy.

  • All I can say is....I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT WHY C-MURDER IS IN JAIL!!!!. He is a fucking idiot. Why is it that when peopl get the opportunity to do something with their lives and change it for the better they have to continue to prove how real they are. Why are his brothers free roaming members of society? Because they made a choice to leave that bullshit behind or at least pay somebody to do it for them. That muhfucka had the holy trinity of hip hop in his life(cheese, chains, and chickens)daily and decided to fuck it up. I don't care what anyone says you can't always go back to where you came from if you came up out of it. Because there will always be that one nigga to fuck it up for you. I don't care if yo live on a farm in the middle of nowhere or the thuggish block in the hood. There is always one nigga lurking around to fuck it up and C just happened to meet that nigga the night he was where he wasn;t supposed to be. • These rappers, whether we love them or hate them are out of the impoverished communities that they were “destined” to remain. Let’s all celebrate the fact they are getting money legally. We (blacks) were never meant to rise up and succeed, but now that we are haters feel it necessary to tell us that we should succeed in a specific way. Fuck it, we own sports and entertainment, hell we ARE sports and entertainment. But knockin’ someone’s hustle won’t help you. I HAVE NEVER seen someone white knock the Kennedy’s hustle. If you don’t know the Kennedy family made their money slangin alcohol during the Prohibition, but that’s o.k. The Rockefeller family fortune was built on driving out struggling businesses in oil, but no one knocks them. I could go on with the family names that you may or may not know of and their misdeeds. I grew up hustling in Florida at the tender age of 12, and since then I’ve learned that there are 1 million and one ways to hustle legally. Unfortunately, in the black community we are limited to about six ways to hustle illegally. Why? The reason is that the need to discourage each other’s success has been etched into our culture. As soon as we see someone succeed it forces us to look at ourselves and wonder what went wrong. Now, I’m a Computer Engineer and my old friends in Florida are still doing the same old shit. DJ Nahlege said that “gangsta rap” will bring down the greatest culture alive, bullshit. Rap IS gangsta rap. When I was growing up on the east coast in the late 70’s and early 80’s those rappers were mainly gangsta. And battling on wax was the birth of hip-hop as we know it today, the alternate to taking it to the streets. The problem nowadays is that dumbfucks want to take that shit to the streets. DJ Nahlege has not really thought out his take on hip-hop. I’m sure that he or she has many times criticize some young lady on the block that has babies early in life or has several “babydaddies”. Although when you think about things isn’t that situation a choice for the young lady just as buying gangsta rap is a choice. Rap came from the self-contained concentration camps sewage that we know of as the ghetto. What the fuck else could it be. It started out grimy and with the help of Nelly, P-Diddy, and the likes it has started to get a good polishing (so that’s it is more marketable). Hell, some call P-Diddy a gangsta rapper. Is this also your opinion Nahlege? This society expects the niggas to be niggerish. I know this for a fact because when I walk into a meeting to tell a company how to gain profits from certain computer systems they look as if I’m the fucking idiot. Blacks aren’t supposed to be intelligent. Nahlege, I hate to disappoint you, but 50 Cent is a genius in the business world. Have you ever notice that his and G-Unit’s music is readily available with few edits, for radio? Try that with an old NWA album, not likely. Gangsta rap has held the music industry up on stilts when this young white boy about 25 miles from me created Napster, bringing the music business to its knees. Nahlege, I don’t know you, but it seems that you have never been to real black neighborhoods. The shit that is going on in gangsta rap is truly happening on a daily basis in someone’s ‘hood. If you and this nation really wants to get rid of gangsta rap, then help prevent the creation of gangstas. Why are black neighborhoods lacking in funds all across the nation and the world for that matter, but the government is funding and building new schools in Iraq. My friend focus on the shit that really matters in bringing down the greatest culture on earth, African culture. Why are blacks, especially educated blacks, such a threat? Africans taught the Greeks mathematics in Waset (Thebes or Luxor to some), but Greeks get the credit. There is a long history of hatred toward Africans from people of European descent. This is what will eventually bring down the culture of hip-hop. My only beef with any rapper out there gettin’ it is that they spend a million dollars per platinum chaing and donate only $50,000 to worthwhile foundation [ Nelly – dumbass ]. They unfortunately think that the cars and jewelry are the real investment.

  • Most of that New Orleans rap is weak as hell, the lyrics just aint that good but the style of Juve and some others is kind of sweet.

That post my man made about new orleans being hard is not true. I been to new orleans I did not see hardly any burned out houses and last I heard people dont even get murdered every day their it is only like 200 something murders. Thats not even one per day. If you want bad go to Detroit, there aint nothin but burned out houses in Detroit, New orleans dont even have a devils night where they burn the whole neighborhood down in detroit and detroit at least got more than a murder per day

Wake up you bit?$s.
