Yes, the Yankees scored a big win over Tampa Bay (the best team in all baseball … who would have thought?) on Tuesday, but they’re still 7½ games back in the American League East. Damn! Dig a hole!
You figure what Tampa Bay is doing ain’t no fluke and Boston will be there and all of a sudden you can forecast a logical scenario that has the Bronx Bombers not playing ball come playoff time.
There’s still plenty of games left, but the Yankees gotta do work! And A-Rod has to stop doing Madonna … or maybe keep banging Madonna (It could be helping).
As for the Mets, they too are winning now, having won four straight and seven of their last 10. They’re only 1½ games out in the National League East, but they’re going to have to contend with Philadelphia to the wire.
You figure the Cubs are a lock in the NL Central and Arizona or LA will go in the West, so that means the Mets need to take the division from the Phillies or capture the Wild Card from St. Louis. It ain't going to be easy, but Carlos Beltran swinging good now will help.
Still, there is a danger that both New York teams can miss the playoffs. Dare I say, let's go Knicks!
