But today's post is about retirement and greatness. That's because after 15 seasons in the NFL, including seven Pro Bowl selections, Michael Strahan has called it quits.
Strahan officially informed Giants of his decision on Monday and will formally announce his retirement live from Giants Stadium today at 11:30a.m.
Strahan ends his career with 141.5 sacks, including his last one ever, on Tom Brady in the Super Bowl.
Favre gave him a gift with this one. Remember that!?
But considering Strahan finally copped the Super Bowl ring that has eluded him his entire career, I'd say he's a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Y'all agree?
But what's killing me, the Giants and their fans about Strahan's decision to retire is dude could have easily done damage if he would have played another season! Oh, don't believe me? Let me give y'all something to put into perspective. At 36-years-YOUNG, Strahan finished last season with nine sacks, ranking within the Top 20 of last season's sack leaders. Now, tell me dude couldn't have played another season!
Be clear - the G-Men's D is in good hands with Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck, but Strahan's presence makes them better. Maybe we're being selfish, though. I mean, Jerome Bettis went out on top after copping a ring with the Steelers and is successful behind the broadcasting booth and Strahan - Gap in the teeth and all - seems headed in that same direction. SOHH, I ain't mad, but I'm mad, ya know.
SOHH I ask y'all: Is Strahan's retirement premature!? How many solid seasons could he have played? How will the Giants do without him!?
And from one retirement to another ... let's rap about Floyd 'Money' Mayweather. Over the weekend, Money called it quits. Now, there's a crazy ass rumor circulating that dude may sign to the UFC for a nine-digit deal, but I don't know about that one Floyd. You might get your ass kicked or your leg broke.
But are y'all buying Mayweather's retirement!? Can he stay away from the sweet science?
Whether Floyd's retirement is final or not remains to be seen (give him six months to a year), but either way him and Strahan get the official Obama dap for a pair of Hall of Fame careers. Chuuuuch!

I agree, I may not have appreciated watching the Giants treat the Pats offensive line like crack whores in the 90's, but clearly Sabertooth Strahan could have gone another season or two. But if in his mind, after receiving the ring he doesn't feel the same drive and passion for the game as he once did then he should hang it up and let the young bucks handle things. He has nothing to be ashamed of, it wasn't a poor season or injury that kicked him out the league, which is the case for so many.

Griff Jr's swing is the protoyptype, & before the injury they used to just hand him the Gold Glove every year on opening day. Strahan has nothing left to prove, Mayweather has plenty to prove. You know I think it's pretty fucked up how the MLB will make these big celebrations for their steroid montsers (Bonds, Mcgwire, Sosa, Palmeiro) but they didnt make that big of a deal for Griffey. Griffey deserved the same treatment, if not, better than those freaks. At least he reached greatness without having to stick a needle up his ass every night.
On a quick note I think its a great ending to Strahan's career, Floyd better learn some ground game if he goes to the UFC, and Lakers in 7 (I won't be mad at boston though, KG, Allen and Pierce deserve the chip, fuck everybody else on boston).

I'm just going to comment on my man Griffey Jr. & say I'm real glad for him it was a long time coming well deserved for him & yes he definitely still has the most purest, sweetest swing in baseball! I been a real huge fan of his since I was real young in the early 90s when he was 1st starting out in Seattle & I have always stuck with him through the unfortunate injuries & he still among the top outfielders & players of all-time through it all! His swing is the prototype all kids should study to & I think another reason I have always loved Griffey as a player is he does so much good in his play quitely & without bragging about it & always in the right way! I just hope he is able to get a chance at a title with some team before he decides to retire as long as it isn't the Yankees!
