Ballsy's NFL Draft Report Card - How Did Your Favorite Team Do?

Posted on April 27, 2008 12:31 PM

The second round of the NFL Draft is still going on, SOHH in the meantime, your boy Ballsy wanted to talk first round. A lot of teams got better, some didn't address much. SOHH heeeere we go:

No. 1 Miami Dolphins - Jake Long, OL (Michigan)
- Be clear, this was Bill Parcells' pick. You can't do anything without an offensive line and Jake's a big boy, but the Dolphins are still a season away from making the playoffs. A-

No. 2 St. Louis Rams - Chris Long, DE (Virginia)
-The Rams were either going to take Chris Long or Glenn Dorsey. I love how Long keeps running, though and he is the seed of Howie. You couldn't go wrong with either one. A

No. 3 Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan, QB (Boston College)
There was a lot of speculation that Matt Ryan would be the dude to take a free fall and slip down on the board and inside of teams war rooms, but uh uh, didn't happen. To be honest, I don't think dude is even the best QB in the Draft. I think Joe Flacco's better. But with Vick in the doghouse (pardon the pun), Ryan's an upgrade ya diiig. B+

No. 4 Oakland Raiders - Darren McFadden, RB (Arkansas)
Maan, Jets fans were tight yesterday at Radio City, when the Raiders swiped Darren McFadden (pictured by Sporting News, trying to get fly for the Draft)

And they should be tight! McFadden's the nicest, most dynamic player in this class. He's going to make Al Davis aka Skeletor and Raider Nation proud. (An Ice Cube) YAYEEE YAYEEE! A+

No. 5 Kansas City Chiefs - Glenn Dorsey, DT (LSU)
With Dorsey slipping in projections from second to fifth, the Chiefs had to take him. If the Rams took Dorsey, the Chiefs would have taken Long. Simple as that. Both win. High Fivee! A

No. 6 New York Jets - Vernon Gholston, DE (Ohio State)
I love Ghooool-ston. Pardon my Doc. Evil. Nah, the Jets definitely missed out on adding the instant offensive punch that they needed with McFadden, but Gholston's an absolute BEAST on the defensive side. The Jets will still lose games because a lack of offensive production and are many pieces away from being a winner again, but Vernon will be great. Chuuuch. Y'all gotta see this tackle he made at OSU. Why the f**k are the broadcasters SOHH calm!? I woulda been yellin. Dude clotheslined that running back. Peep: B+

No. 7 New Orleans Saints - Sedrick Ellis, DT (Southern Cal)
N.O. wanted Dorsey in the worst way, SOHH when he flew off the board at 5, Ellis had to be its choice ... and they had to move up to get him. Good job. A

No. 8 Jacksonville Jaguars - Derrick Harvey, DE (Florida)
The Jaguars jumped from No. 26 to 8. Yeah, um, something tells me the Jags had Derrick Harvey well covered. I'm all about making an already-good defense better. A

No. 9 Cincinnati Bengals - Keith Rivers, LB (USC) With all due respect to Keith Rivers, I don't think drafting a linebacker will make Ocho Cinco stay, but then again ... what will!? B-

No. 10 New England Patriots - Jerod Mayo, LB (Tennessee)
Pop-Quiz: Why did the Patriots lose to the Giants in the Super Bowl!? What's that ... a failure in mounting any kind of defensive attack!? Ding, ding, ding! SOHH, getting a linebacker was NEEDED, especially considering Tedy Bruschi, Junior Seau and Mike Vrabel are old as dirt. Still, if I'm a Pats fan (when hell freezes over ... and over), I woulda liked to see Belichick be more aggressive and try to move up to get a better defensive player, with his cheating ass. C+

SOHH that's my 1 through 10, yaa diiig!

Skipping around to other significant first-round picks:

No. 18 Baltimore Ravens - Joe Flacco, QB (Delaware)
SOHH Joe Flacco played at small-ass Delaware, which is part of the Colonial Athletic Association, but dude has the biggest arm in the Draft. Dude's the best QB in this class. Watch y'all will see. He has a gun for an arm and at 6-6, 238 ... he should be able to endure a big NFL hit. Then the Ravens added my man Ray Rice from Rutgers with their second-round pick. I like how B-More drafted. Flacco's the future. A

No. 22 Dallas Cowboys - Felix Jones, RB (Arkansas)
Felix Jones was McFadden's runningmate in Arkansas. Now he'll be teaming with Marion Barber, the most physical back in the game. Don't sleep. B-

No. 23 Pittsburgh Steelers - Rashard Mendenhall, RB (Illinois)
Ok, Ok ... here's the sleeper of the first round since everyone and their mama are on that Flacco bandwagon. I actually thought Mendenhall could have come off the boards earlier. Dude did work in the IU. B

No. 31 New York Giants - Kenny Phillips, Safety (Miami)
In a brief interview on the Draft stage at Radio City, Brandon Jacobs made a great point. Although the Giants came alive in the playoffs to win the Super Bowl, they did finish the regular season 10-6. If you only look at that record, you realize there is room for improvement. I like that the Giants used their pick to try to shore up their secondary. B-

  • im a titans fan and id give the titans a C- because they waited so long to get a wide receiver so all the big names were gone so vince has to do all the heavy lifting again on offense which isnt fair to him.

  • The Chiefs had the best overall draft. I'm glad they traded Jared Allen for the picks. Made no sense for the Chiefs to pay one guy 70 million when you went 4-12 with holes all over the roster. Dorsey, Albert, Flowers, Charles and Franklin will see alot of clock this season.

  • I am a Jets fan and wished they would have traded up for Mcfadden but after seeing that clip of Ghoulston, I have to say that he was the next best pic. Don't know what they are thinking drafting Keller. They are trying to be the Pats so bad. Should have taken Devin Thomas or a QB.

  • Cowboy fan here! I love the picks that we made and give Jerry Jones a solid B! Felix Jones is a very good player and complement to marion the barbarian! Jenkins was a steal at 25 and now we're deep at one our weak spots last year! Martellus bennett gives us a huge red zone threat and someone who can flex in the slot or play in double tight! Tashard Choice adds more depth and is a very powerful runner! Good draft!

  • This is awful to read. You type and speak like an awkward 8th grader trying really hard to be cool... Just because you like hip-hop doesn't mean you need to speak like a stereotype. Learn to use your intelligence... and instead of just saying what ESPN is saying in lame "ebonics", maybe next time you should form your own opinions. Come on people.. Get real this writer is garbage.

  • i give my skins a c+ because we could have took a dt instead of that tight end we got we need help on both our lines but we did alright we bolstered or offense in a major way i would just like to see them act like the got some sense sometimes and address needs i mean every year our offensive line is one injury away from desturctio because we have no depth there i mean we got one of the most talented offensive lines in the leauge and there dominant when theres no injurys but with no depth so if one gets hurt we dead money that shit be blowin me i mean they picked up just one this whole offseasoin these niggaz be blowin the shit out of a nigga
