Ayo, y'all know that ever since the NBA made its age rule, the most important year in college turned to freshman year. Freshmen - not sophomores, juniors or seniors - are the ones to watch because y'all know if they're nice, they're heading to the L. Don't believe me that freshmen are the most important and have the most impact!? Then why did seven freshmen make the player of the year ballot and only six seniors!? Wamp, wamp.
SOHH with March Madness upon us, here are the Top 5 Freshmen (and future NBA stars) to watch:
5. Kevin Love, UCLA forward
What's there not to Love about Kevin Love's game? Ok, that was corny, but simply put: Love's the truth. The great White hope can do it all: score, rebound and PASS! Watch this boy pass. I don't think he'll be a superstar in the L, but he'll be a double-double 10-15-year pro. I'm telling you!
4. O.J. Mayo, USC guard
O.J.'s a KILLER! A killer ball player that is. Dude continues to improve game-in and game-out. I don't think he could see Derrick Rose, though. That's just my opinion.
3. Eric Gordon, Indiana guard
Eric Gordon is 6-4, 215 pounds of dynamite on the court. Dude's explosive with incredible ups and power for his size. Look how EJ takes off here.
2. Derrick Rose, Memphis guard
I personally think D. Rose is the best guard in college basketball. Dude is on rollerblades out there, for real. What I love about dude's game is he's a finisher; not all flash.
1. Michael Beasley, Kansas State forwardAight, I saved the best for last ... Michael Beasley aka Man Child aka B-Easy! The 6-10 forward is a man playing with boys (Pause. Not Mike Jack style). Beasley averaged 26.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, in already being named Big 12 Player of The Year.
God I hope the Knicks have a shot at Beasley (Wishful Thinking)!
Before I leave, I must ask: Which freshman are you going to be keying in on? Which freshman will take his team the deepest? Speak on it, homies!
Yo i disagree. The best freshman is Derrick Rose. Dude's incredible. Gordon ain't far behind.
GORDON IS OVERRATED... YOU SEE HOW MANY T.O'S THIS MAN GETS A GAME. THE MAN SHOOTS 30 ATTEMPTS A GAME AND BARELY MAKES HALFS OF HIS SHOTS. THE ONLY PTS. HE GETS IS FROM THE LINE. ROSE IS THE BEST ALONG WITH BEASLEY.
If you know basketball, ur taking beasley as the number one pick. point blank. my man got size, a nice jumper and the power game's legit. come on, come on nah!
Sickest in the country

With the first pick in the 2008 NBA draft the miami heat select Michael Beasley. To answer you're question Derrick Rose's team will go the furthest cause he super nice and he got help, and to me Gordon is a bit overrated, he's good just a lil overrated, In my opinion.
Yo Beasley is definitely the truth, but sleep on that big boy from Georgetown either, Hubbard, he would be a good player in the draft. But Beastly is a man child for real...
Gordon is a baller and so is both Rose and Mayo.
Kevin Love needs to buy some ups can he get off the damn ground, he reminds of that old European dude from Portland a few years back.
miami aint a lock to get the #1 pick. You remember boston was suppost to get it but portland end up picking GREG ODEN @#1. With the Miami Heats bad luck they wont get it haha. Shawn Marion is going to opt out of his contract this summer. D-Wade going back to CHICAGO in 2010 aint a bad idea.
I have the same top five in a different order: 1) Beasley 2) Rose 3) Love 4) Gordon 5) Mayo. I won't even pretend to be objective though, because I'm a die-hard Bruin (which also means I hate USC with all my heart). Mike Beastley is a man though - he's Melo with a serious post game. But I can't wait for the dance and to see K-Love and the Big Blue Wreckin Crew hang banner #12 in Pauley. Its our time. BRU CRU lets get it!!!!!
After reading comments from various blogs and websites, Im really starting to believe MOST cats dont understand the game of basketball. Most people think from an emotional standpoint, and not from a pure analytical view. Sorry to upset the brass, but Derrick Rose and Eric Gordon are not better basketball players than OJ Mayo. Theres not another player besides Beasley that has more skill and are NBA-Ready than Mayo and Beasley. if anyone disputes that, email me, and we will break down each players game completely. thanks
I don't really see Gordon as overrated, he's about as good as advertised. His long range game is dangerous and he attacks the rim like he's playing for paychecks (which is why he stays at the free throw line). If any one of these dudes is overrated its OJ Mayo, and not just because I hate SC. Mayo has improved as the season went on, but he was a black hole in the 1st half of the year, and he shot USC out of a couple of games. He had decent game at UCLA, but Russell Westbrook shut him down in the rematch at SC, for 4 points and 5 turnovers. In fairness to OJ, he's a true point guard who's playing out of position, but he hasn't lived up to the hype.
Mayo dee'd up Rose for starts. I think he is better then Gordon, Bayless, and Love. Plus, any other so called super frosh can't mess with him. He got handles, a shot and point guard skills he's not able to show because he plays off the ball. Rose might be more athletic but his jumper is dryer than the Sahara. Gordon scores but his shooting percentage sucks alot. Besides Beastley, Mayo is the best.
And to be clear, Im not saying that any one of these players will be more NBA-ready than any others. What im saying is based on what they have already done in the COLLEGE game, which is the topic of this discussion. Now in my opinion, Derrick Rose will eventually be a better pro than OJ Mayo, and Kevin Love will not be a star at the next level. However, I will have to pass on the invitation to exchange email addresses and break down each players' upside. As tempting as that sounds.....
didnt you just have this blog with the same points? we already know that you are jockin beasley. but rose is better. and why the hell would miami draft beasley when they already got wade? and wade ain't goin to chicago. if anywhere, he will be traded to the bobcats or hornets.
and thats straight from the horses mouth (wade)
If Eric Gordon's wrist heals in the next few days look out. He was exceptional before he hurt it last month.
My opinion... Derrick Rose is absolutely spectacular, best guard prospect I've seen in college ball since Deron Williams. I don't even need to speak on Mike Beastley. OJ Mayo is the next Chauncey Billups. However, I think Eric Gordon is a overhyped. He's a ridiculous scorer with good size, def a top 10 pick, but frankly, I don't see too many intangibles in him that translate into a bonafide franchise player you'd build a championship team around. I'm eager to his tourney perfomances. Still, I like Arizona's Jerryd Bayless better than him at this moment. Kevin Love is a man-beast, but he's a tad overhyped as well, being a top 5 HS prospect and playing at UCLA. I don't think he's the best frosh big man and certainly not best pro prospect--- Oklahoma's Blake Griffin is... And by the way, next year's best guard prospect won't even play college basketball... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqLGzkhRHN8
We have a definite shot at getting Beasley....We'll finish among the bottom 4 teams record wise so we've got good odds....shit I'll even take the 2nd pick, derrick rose is gonna be HUGE!
I hope Beasly dont flop like Oden
Kevin Love is NOT overrated in any way, shape or form. Lets get that straight first. Overrated means not as good as advertized, and not living up to the hype. Coming out of high school nobody said he was a big leaper or super athelete that was gonna set the NBA on fire. They said he was the most skilled big man to come to college in years and that he would get UCLA over the hump. Ok, well he averaged a double/double, led the league in rebounds and led his team to their 3rd straight conference title. Oh and he was also the PAC-10 player of the year as a freshman in America's toughest conference. That's called living up to the hype. That aint overrated. After he runs through the tournament and takes a regional or final four MVP, tell me how overrated he is then. GO BRUINS!!!
UCLA VS UNC in Championship game....
Beasley, please dont go to the KNICKS
This is an amazing class of freshman.I've heard about OJ since he was in 7th grade playing varsity in Kentucky. He's amazing and I root for him because people are waiting for him to fail. Derrick Rose is the f'ing truth! Man, so atheletic, but he's really reserved and ain't out there thumpin' his chest. If Mike Beasley and Bill Walker had more talent around them, they could have made a run like my man Melo did 4 years ago. Abouslutly love his game. Why do you think the Heat tanked it this season? To get Michael Beasley.Eric Gordon is very good as well, but the least likely to suceed in the League would be Kevin Love. I like his game, but he isn't very athletic, and plays no defense to speak of.
Curb, you're point is well made. I don't know exactly who you were talking to, but I chose my words carefully and said Kevin Love was overhyped, not overrated. He's pretty much been in the public eye virtually since birth (nephew of former Beach Boy), giving him accentuated media attention from his high school playing days to his decision to pass on his hometown Oregon Ducks to his outstanding freshman season (in LA, CA no less). I can't argue against production... he's certainly lived up to his billing at UCLA and I'll concede though that I didn't realize so many other people themselves see that he probably isn't a lottery pick.
And by the way, I still don't think Love is the best freshman big man in the country--- see Oklahoma's Blake Griffin.
Not that anybody said he was... ACC ALL DAY.
Maaaaaaan.......E.G. is the TRUTH....I'll start with that...love the debate. D Rose is probably the best guard out of'em all though, dude is like a taller Ivo. Beastly...wellllll need I say more. I would've love to see him and Durant go at it in the Big 12....Mayo...ehhhhh...haven't watched him play enough to knock his game..if yall say he's ill...he's ill....Lastly, Love...Nice game, fundamentally sound...in the L he'll make a nice career...don't see the Next McHale in him though....
Not knockin Rose but I dont think he shoots passes or plays smarter than Deron Williams comin out of Illinois. Its a reason scouts called him a Jason Kidd with a jumper. Although I do think rosr is a better player than Gordon. I mean if you shoot 25 times and shoot 15 or so free-throws you gon average what he does. Plus he's easliy rattled. He done had some of his worst games against top teams, plus dont forget what happened in Illinois
